I always figure once these go surplus, they will make awesome airplanes to own.

I thought the same thing. Surplus is gonna be years away though. :-( The RNZAF is planning to keep theirs for 30 years!!

Duh USA has a near-zero record of surplussing military aircraft--even the unarmed trainers... they'll even grind them up rather than sell them... ironically you end up buying them from our allies. Sad.

Hopefully you won’t have to eject… because that’s like half the planes value

Being a trainer, it's NOT going to be forward-deployed to a war-zone, and it's NOT going to be carrying any ordnance, so DoD/USAF probably figures it's a waste of several trained NCOs and Airmen to dedicate them to this bird. Git 'er done!... save the taxpayers some coin.

You could definitely put together a fractional-ownership deal. Even with 6 people in your "club", you'll still get plenty of access... believe me, operating costs keep everyone on a short leash. 😉

Despite being sleek, up-to-date, and turbine-powered, this bird is significantly slower and has a lower service ceiling than WW2 piston fighters like the P-47... it's as if someone lost the formula for _awesome sauce!_
