One of the best batrep I've ever watch. Everything is close to perfection: The rules, the minis, the tearrain, the postprod, the fellas playing. It was so INTENSE all the game long, it was like we were watching a movie or reading a Novel of Farsight and theses 5 battlesuits. What we need now is that theses hero mode games to be narrtively linked with a campaign, with other games modes. Like your game imply that the Tau previously fighted the Ork and now need to escape. What happened ? Did they lost a battle ? or sabotage a facility behind ennemies lines ? What will they do next ? Will they retaliate ? That is really inspiring work you've done. I would enjoy an on demand podcast debrief of theses beta games of hero mode to what's coming next :) Congratz and keep it up John

Me and a friend played Hoard (Necrons) vs Hero (Custodes) mode V1 and had and amazing time! Heroes: Trajan, Captain on Bike, Blade champ. Hoard: Wave 1 - 2x20 warriors, 1x3 Scarabs, Royal Warden Wave 2 - 1x20 warriors, 1x10 Gauss Immortals, Chronomancer, Reanimator Wave 3 - 1x10 Tesla Immortals, 2x6 Scarabs, Plasmancer, Annihilation Barge Wave 4 - Illuminor Szeras (WL), 1x10 Flayed ones, 1x6 Skorpeks, Skorp Lord Wave 5 - 1x6 wraiths, technomancer, 1x10 Flayed Ones, 1x3 scarabs We set up a Necron terrain, was like an escape from the tomb world scenario. Game always felt pretty evenly matched. Bike captain got taken out eventually but Trajan & Blade champ escaped the tomb world. Custodes ended up winning on points but we both had a ton of fun!! Thank you so much for letting people take part in this game mode free of charge. You guys rule!

I'm almost done my 40k Orc Eavy Landa over 3' long to deep stike 3 battle fortresses with Maganobs. And now i am more motivated then ever to build a fold-able/multipart Orc Rok table/model for apocalypse scale with moving parts and lighting with a PC and TV screens built in, and pull out modular underworld/kill team table. the idea for apocalypse is to set up on on the side 2nd turn from reserves and move it onto the floor/table 3rd as it randomly crashes/lands for deep striking Stompas or something bigger even. If i build it i'll document it and put it up on KZbin.

How would you scale this mode to include multiple people on the hero side? Do you recommend increasing points per army proportionally or is everyone just relegated to one 130 point character?

I recommend splitting the points evenly among the hero players. However, some characters will be cheaper given its nature, so other plays in the group can absorb those spare points. Think of it like building a cool D&D party, everyone should have their role :)

Played a couple of games now, love the hero more the only house rule we added was for support characters like mekboys with kff painboys and medic type character that would only normally benefit from being in a unit get a 6" bubble of their base rule rather than unit dependent healing or fnps . Other than this I love this system.

A question for the Spider. Does the +1dmg +Strength aplly for all weapons in a HQ squad too? Like a Imperial Guard Command Squad or a Space Marine Company Heroes Squad? One Weapon would feel weak in a Cadian Command Squad and in an Company Heroes its to strong?

Hi mate! The +1 Damage and Str only applies to the Character model and not the HQ squad itself. The HQ squad does benefit from plot armour (re-roll saves) and Destruction Incarnate (damage spill over) though, so they are still fairly nasty!

Although the Heroes are going first, I see you are deploying the Horde at the start of the Round, and I do not see that called out in the rules. It makes a big difference whether they can be targeted or not before they move.

Yes indeed, the Horde Wave deploys at the beginning of every battleround as written in the rules pdf, but the heroes take first turn. So they do get the opportunity to shoot the horde first :)

No worries at all :) This can happen sometimes as you don’t know which quarter a wave might appear on… that is also what makes it exciting and tense/different every time you play!

I am really kinda sad that this is super limiting and not *really* a PvE mode like regular horde mode. When you said you were expanding on Poorhammers rules I thought it was going to have the same vibe but this is just another PvP mission which is dissapointing. Any chance for a true custom ruleset as a Horde Mode addendum to make it proper co-op?

If you read through the rules, I recommend that you can use the Horde Mode AI to represent the Horde in hero mode if you like. Ultimately this is very much a co-op game as the heroes have to work together to win. They can’t win individually, like you do in Horde Mode for example :)
