A key concept in blind retrieves is conditioning the retriever to understand that when it does not hear the whistle, the dog is running the correct route. Whistle sit should condition the expectation that with the next cast, the dog must change directions. Whistle sit after sending to the back pile, then casting to the back pile will dilute this key message. So in T drills we always cast to the over pile after any whistle sit to keep the concept consistent...whistle sit, then cast to change directions. Freebie sends to the back pile also help teach the concept...no whistle = dog is running the correct route.

we are in Mini T right now, but I did try to stop him on the way out on a longer throw to see what he would do. I did get a sit, but it wasnt a complete turn around and face me. I walked out to him and made him sit and face me before continuing with a Back command. If he doesnt turn around for the sits on the way out, what steps need to be taken?
