Heard some good results from this particular plugin, which is one of the reasons I bought the T-Racks 5 Max bundle, but I really wasn't getting the results I'd anticiated because, tbh, I didn't know how it all functioned. so, this vid has been very, very useful, saving a lot of trial and error and speeding up my work flow - Cheers, liked. There's a wealth of plugins in my bundle, if you have them, i'd appreciate more vids like this. Now to check out your White Channel vid :-)

Hi, I haven't gone through all of your TrackS videos, but I don't see one specifically dedicated to the Fairchild 670. Have you done one, yet? It is the compressor I probably use the most, but I haven't a clue, really, regarding how it all works. I just tend to keep it on +1DB 670 Magic. :-) Thanks, PaA

Nice review! Did you use this type of console extensively? It looks like you know exactly what to change in what order, my usual problem with HW emulations is that the manual does not teach the workflow in the context of program material.
@dancetech
@dancetech 6 жыл бұрын
no i didn't, only used a 4000 once, but when you understand how stuff works - what each band & it's assigned filter-type does - a single channel is the easy bit which is the same on every other channel.. once you "get" one channel, the others are just the same. The hard bit to learn with more advanced consoles is the bus routing & monitoring etc.

I think I watch all your videos except plug-in hauls. I want to use the stock stuff because that is what made me go Logic from Cubase 3.5. to Logic Express.
@dancetech
@dancetech 6 жыл бұрын
yes, there's nothing wrong with the stock plugins, but vintage hardware emulation plugins like some of those in the T-Racks range give you that something else/extra character... plus for the broader "painting" stage of the mix, vintage eq emulations offer very fast working with limited choices of frequencies which is a good thing most of the time.

What I'm trying to figure out whether these plugins with their "old-school" way of working would contribute to what I'm doing with Izotope Neutron which is an exact opposite of this (being super analytical abd scientific in nature)
@dancetech
@dancetech 6 жыл бұрын
well these switching eq's with reduced frequency choices force you to make choices, they have a sweet spot sound, and multiple instances gel together in a mix nicely. Maybe try this: Get the simple 1073 clone (The EQ-73) on a 14 day demo; open one of your songs which doesn't have too many track, do "Save As" & save a different version of the song & then replace the previously uised channel eq on all tracks with the 1073 & try a mix using the 1073 eq with it's basic switching choices. Then compare with your original.

i never thought about compensating for EQ cuts by raising the input level. I always would just raise the output level to make up for the cuts, but i guess if you raise the input you are effectively doing the same thing except you are driving into the plugin

The SSL 4000 debunked in under 20 minutes, thank you so much Sir. What about gain levels and meters? What rules to respect and how-to? Should i respect the -18db rule (that i still need to study)?
@MonstarMk3
@MonstarMk3 5 жыл бұрын
Live and die by the -18 rule. In mixing and mastering both. This is gain staging. Start with drums and work all the way down. Make each track -18 rms. Then, and only then should you start adding plugins and mixing. Once you are done with your mix, make sure you have -18 ON your master BUSS! Your master engineer will think you are amazing. If you master it yourself, this -18 of headroom will improve your sound and make mastering easier.

I don’t buy plugin until I see it on vocal - drum or guitars ain’t that important- if a plugin can do good on vocal - then it can do great on drums and guitar so on piano ..
