T238 Flashboom (Nerf Grenade PSA)

I've enjoyed the various T238 Nerf grenades that have come so far, even if they aren't particularly effective. But I will not hide my reservations about the newest T238 product which has almost nothing to do with foam flinging.

I wouldn't use them for any kind of Nerf occasion, but in airsoft where gas-powered grenades/pyro are common, definitely. Only two things I would change are the way the battery works (perhaps making it an integrated battery rechargable by MicroUSB/USB-C?), and making the flashbang effect cease after a certain period of time. Aside from that, sounds great for airsoft.

I actually bought one of these and tried it in a public game so y’all don’t have to, to sum up what happened, I’m banned from ever going back to that field and they’ve started checking personal gear. So I don’t recommend using this on a public field but if you are with a group of friends who are all mutual with it it’s a really fun product

It needs a few improvements: 1. Rubberize the plastics, for better throwing durability 2. Make the spoon the trigger, not the pin pull 3. Make it brighter, and have only one flash cycle 4. Make the speaker sound louder, and more accurate to a real flashbang, including the post-blast whining fade-out

Tbh, I'd probably use it for laser tag since nerf is a sport I'd never play in the dark (unless it's in a building with little to no light), mostly because it would be a pain to find all the darts, airsoft is a meh if I wanted to use this thing

honestly, these would be great for small airosoft games if you can clear that nobody has epilepsy. but otherwise, i feel it's too harsh for nerf, and most airsoft game have too many people to know if noone has epilepsy

Put some light diffusion film in so it's no blinding, disable the speaker permanently, and it COULD be useable in some games. As long as it's under-arm lobbed or rolled, or maybe strapped to a post as a capture point.

If it were to make a single BOOM, it would be the perfect Nerf grenade: you were nearby when it went BOOM, you've been tagged. That easy. But the annoyance and inconvenience of it not stopping are the ONLY game breaking issue, really. Airsoft and nerf are so similar yet so different. Airsoft for one is generally more loose with rules, prolly due to the nature of the game itself. Imo nerf is more restricted since more kids play it but honestly that would be a cool thing just to have.

I feel like there isn't really an issue with the lipo unless the top comes off. In battlebots, even the tiny ones, they have lipos and they're pretty safe as long as they're covered. That's with the robots getting attacked by saw blades or hammers too

I feel like this could be used, but it needs to be further nerfed. The lights would need to go from epilepsy warning to turning between on and off every second (or longer if that's still a risk for epileptic people, I honestly don't know, whatever makes it safe), the noise from ear ®@¶€ to one constant tone that's just loud enough to let you retreat quickly with less chance of being heard, and an external on off switch. I don't really know much about that battery that's apparently dangerous but not quite enough where it got into a nerf toy, but that could probably be swapped out too. If this was to be an actual used item, it would have to be more of a distraction and less of a possible permanent seeing and hearing damage device, cause exposure over multiple games will probably do that.

With Everyone Playing’s Knowledge and Consent... I Honestly can think of a few Good ways to use this. Trip Wire Alarm 🚨, throw some red tint on the plastic windows so it isn’t So harmful on the night vision but still gets the point across. I have slowly been designing a particular Game Type that is Might be perfect for, where the Grenades have been problematic. Plus the Strobe effect would give something like a special effect to the actual game type it was lacking before... hmmmmm. If I could jack a Bluetooth to the speaker for music instead of the tone, that would be even better... I have more. I might have to grab one and see what I can do with it... no idea when I’ll have a spare $40 though.

I think a better idea would be a flash grenade that has an inertial switch connected to a monostable 555 circuit. that way it flashes once for a set period of time, and that's it until it gets reset.

Honestly this is such a missed opportunity, if you want an effective "flashbang" make it flash really bright (not eyedamaging bright) for 1 second and then make a sound. Much like a real flashbang. It would be quite effective too because 1 bright flash would do the trick and also be alot safer than to kill people that are sensitive to flashing lights.

I will agree that this has a lot of problems. I feel it is safer than some of the things I have seen used in Nerf, Paintball, and Airsoft. I will say if you just feel you have to have and use this, then make it safer. Paint or place translucent covers over the lights to make them much much dimmer. Find a way to muffle the sound. Most of all fire it off with the other players so they could say if they are okay with you using it. I feel this would make a great camping and survival item. If you're camping and want to know if someone or something is entering your campsite this would make a great trip wire alarm. It may even run an Intruder off. With anything please use your head and be careful.

This is incredibly awesome. I'd love to make one of these. Not for Nerf games, just as a cool 'weapon' to sit on the shelf. I'd imagine it would be better to make it with a polycarb tube with some hard rubber bumpers, something about the size of a redbull can running on an 18650. It would be WAY over the top, which is what would make it cool.

I'd have to disagree with you, with regards to saying these don't belong in a nerf game. We run indoor games, with adults only, for a more "tactical" experience. As a Game organiser, I'd definitely ask before games if everyone is okay with it being used. I'd definitely remove the speaker, and rewire it to use AA batteries instead, but then i belive the players in our group who has them will be responsible enough to use them in a safe manner.

I understand where everybody here is coming from when they say “this thing has no place on a nerf field” and I agree, but I don’t think that this thing should receive so much hate. I think that what a lot of people here are neglecting is the fact that this is most likely not going to be used on a nerf field, it’s probably going to be used on an airsoft field. If you’re unfamiliar with airsoft, people, more often than not, have bright af tac lights on their guns that strobe, and airsoft grenades that, instead of flinging darts, actually blow up and make a sound so loud it leaves your ears ringing. All I’m saying, stop hating on shit you don’t know that much about.

I think as far as Nerf Grenades go, The second version is the best one. You can roll it, It works like a funny little room clearer type thing, Very unlikely to get anyone hurt or cause trouble. The Flash Boom is literally just "I'm taking this game too seriously and I want to win even if it harms someone". It goes against the entire spirit of the game.

In war nobody cares if somebody gets killed. Thats why flashbangs are used in war. Now, when it comes to nerf. Throwing a flashbang at somebody and killing them from a seizure will get you arrested. Thats pretty much like bringing a real gun to a nerf war.

This is going to be very situational, but hear me out. If you're coming back from a Nerf war or Airsoft that allows every kind of grenade, you head to your car/truck, and somebody who has been eyeing you out from afar is attempting to kidnap you in nighttime or even in the day. This flash bomb would be a decent personal alarm outside of just being for recreational sports.
