T5 Transporter - build series - roof paint - awful job Ep9

We are moving on with the T5 transporter guild series and today I am painting the roof, painting a roof is never easy but when your roof is full of dents it gets a lot worse. No one is ever going to see the roof but I can’t just paint over dents so I have to make it right.

When I bought my T5.1 Caravelle from a VW dealership back in 2015, I test drove it checked it all over and didn’t even think about looking at the roof, it was only when I said that I’d have it they mentioned a few dents in the roof. They said that it would cost them £750 to do the work or knock £1k off the asking price. I wasn’t that bothered because I was planning to put a pop top roof in and that it would eventually get cut out. In the mean time I fitted a solar panel to keep on top of the leisure battery while camping. I was booked in for a roof just as lockdown kicked off, had to cancel and never got around to doing it. Still bugs me when I give the roof a monthly wash 🤣

Hey bud a fair few people have said similar about dented T5 roofs I wonder why so many are like it, happy to get a grand off the price for it for that would have been nice my way I would have enjoyed it a little more 😂. Will you be getting the pop top done eventually? Thanks for the comment 👍

I love the careful preparation, van is really gonna look mint when you’ve finished it. You probably already know so ignore me if you do. Those 8 bolts that hold the roof bars, if you’re not going to use them seal them up with a bit of tiger seal as they tend to leak. I removed mine and ran a tiny bead of Tigerseal under the heads and then tightened them down. One of mine was leaking and the only sign was tiny dribbles of water down the end of the front wheel arch in the front floor area. Later I took headlining down and it looked like it had been leaking for a while and the van was only a year old. Dry as a bone now though.

Hale i love lying there listening to the damage , They bust my windscreen once in Austria like cricket balls .New screen quote was £640 Euros. piss take . I said leave it i put jeans towells t shirts under the screen soaking wet mad ,We got back to the UK ,same screen in Ashford was £220 .
