Great review. I've had the T60 argons for a while now with the ZMF Oval Suede. Just ordered myself a pair of their Xenon Suede Pads

@@MrAyrit this could be very interesting if they reduce the sibilance of the T60 Argons. Did he say whether they would be recommended for the T60 or is it for the MK3?
@reflection11192 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you that the MHA pads are an improvement in terms of soundstage. My T60s had ZMF Suede. The MHA pads flatten the bass but so extend it deeper compared to the ZMF Suede pads. Not sure how they compare to the ZMF Protein, Lamb or Cowhides. Your summary of the T60 Argon being very fun, enjoyable and better than the sum of its parts is a very good way to describe them. My only gripe is the occasional sibilance but it has really eased off with burn in (first time I'd say I noticed an improvement over time). I have T50 Argons on the way to try them out and have a very warm headphone in my collection for a change.
@MrAyrit2 жыл бұрын
Yes, occasionally sibilant, but track dependent and less so with a good amp I would say.
@gdemirjian2 жыл бұрын
Love the T60. I mod'ed mine after auditioning the Argon T50. To give the 60's a warmer, richer sound I swapped the driver attenuator from the one in my Dekoni Blue (Dekoni/Fostex T50 collaboration) and added Brainwavz (fatty) angled "HYBRID" pads for a more 3D sound stage presentation (agreed better than solid leather pads) They sound as good, if not better than headphones costing 2-3x more. Love your reviews, teach!
@gdemirjian2 жыл бұрын
@@radicalturkey when you remove the ear pad it is the grey circle of foam that circles around the driver. I had a pair of Dekoni/Fostex Blue that I swapped the foam piece with, but you can get very similar foam from any craft store. When you change the shape and use different density foam it modifies the sound signature very noticeably.

I just grabbed a pair and initially I didn't like them at all, even with the Xenon pads and baffles installed. Switched them to my Lyr and sweetbabyjeezus did they wake up and come alive. They sound really good on a Mojo 2 as well, so finding the right amp pairing could be a bit of pickle for a prospective buyer. On the Lyr, never would guess these cost what they do new. The spatial presentation and the instrument separation for the price is bananas. Some of the most enjoyable bass I've heard from a planar as well. Not sure I would readily recommend it for folks just starting out, you'll definitely want to settle on your source chain first imo and ask if anyone can advise how the Argons sound on 'x' amp. But more folks should be talking about the Argons. And the Xenon pads. The Xenon pads are some of the best pads I've used period, to the point they'd swap onto any ZMF I'd buy in the future.

The Lyr doesn't surprise because they match well with the cap modded Liquid Platinum I have.

Good review man! QUESTIONS: Would the V-Moda Boompro Mic work with these? It's a 3.5 connection with a built in mic, but it's not 4 pole, which is my main concern. Would they be decent for 1st person shooter games? Spatial awareness is key for these games, along with mid to low mids.
@MrAyrit2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think the boom pro will work because it’s 4-pole. You probably also don’t want to run it out a controller, you’ll want a dedicated amp. Outside of those things, I think they’ll be great for gaming.
@JayJay-jx3zg2 жыл бұрын
@@MrAyrit it would be into a Mayflower Arc Mk2 DAC with a PC. The Arc is good for headphones to 300 ohms. The PC opens me up to all kinds of mic solutions, i just like the convenience of the vmoda mic, not to mention it's actually pretty good.

I cannot make my mind between T60RP Argon or Focal Elegia. Right now i have HD600 and the Blue Dekoni, is it worth to get Argon if i have the Blue? Sorry my english is bad, kind of hard to express my self correctly.

I have the Dekoni Blue as well, but haven’t reviewed them yet. IMO, the Blue don’t hold a candle to the Argons.

If you ever get the Verite Closed in for review or other ZMF headphones, it will be great to hear how these compare. Of course I wouldn't expect them to sound better or equally good, but it would be good to know how close or far behind these sit.

There's a pretty wide gap between them, the VC has better technicalities, more layering. I think the stage is slightly wider on the argons

Its seems like when some reviewer talk about headphone's technicality and detail retrieval they refer to brighter thin sounding headphones being the best.

Perhaps it’s just that in a lot of cases warmer or thicker headphones can just make it more difficult to hear some of those details.

What is this background music ha. So how is the bass SPEED for electronic..? I think Edition XS will give Elegia quite a run for their money, on the technical front, at least.
@MrAyrit2 жыл бұрын
I just have a few KZbin tracks that I rotate, simple that way. As for the XS, I believe it would absolutely give the Elegia a run for it's money but I'm talking more closed-backs in this vid--and it's difficult to match those up in price categories. For most people, I don't think they'd be looking at the XS for the same use case as they would the Elegia, but I may be wrong.

@@MrAyrit Appreciate the video! About to buy my first headphones+amp. Maybe I’m strange but actually trying to decide between HFM XS and t60 Argon (Sundara may also be in the mix). Think I, like you, appreciate a bit of tube-ness, character and body/warmth to the sound but I would also like at least some (to a newbie) “wow-factor” with resolution/extension/stage. For amplifier I’ve landed on ifi Gryphon (or possibly the Go Blue if I don’t get the Argons). Anyone with thoughts?

Only the modhouse argon MK3 can be modhouse to use duel entry mini 4-pin XLR or 3.5mm Because it's very hard to do Do that without destroying the wood and replacing it with 3D printed plastic then you would basically have a MK3 Then it would sound like a MKIII Because of how the wood changes the sound

T-60s need time to break in.. I remember 4 years ago when i got them it took a few hours to sound right. I loved its stock signature a lot. It was also my first planar. I got them recently modded to Argons and love them. They sound totally different even though you can hear the similarities. The bass is tactile and bigger. Mids are slightly recessed. Soundstage is bigger and the separation is awesome too. Maybe its my setup.. Great headphones.

@@epicmike3915 I experienced it first hand. I got the T60rp and it sounded weird. Felt super sad and let down. Left it playing on full volume, went to a restaurant, ate food and came back to find the sound completely changed - all within an hour or so! I recently opamp rolled and experienced the same thing. Edit: 2 weeks ago the sound signature of my hd650 changed too! Burn-in happens. Things age etc.
