Some parents say that playing games rots the brain, others say it's watching TV. What about watching multiple layers of observance that eventually leads to a game deep down? If my brain was rotted, could I follow this comment thread? Exactly. Or maybe it's already rotted so much that this is what makes sense to me now.

I can't believe I'm finally in one of these! I'm so excited 11. If anyone cares, I'll explain a few things i was thinking during the game: 3:27 Red didn't actually attack that vill. I sent a vill to weaken the scout so my scout could finish it off. 6:40 My reaction was actually "Are you kidding me? Why am I getting MBL douched?" I watch every T90 video so I wasn't completely caught off guard. 7:38 Thanks T90 for reminding me I'm bad at house placement 11. It's not like I'm a low elo or anything. Anyways, I started building them with my dock vill and was too focused on other things to effectively move him to build houses elsewhere. 7:55 I literally never noticed that villager 11, even when rewatching the game. Maybe I meant for him to dock there and I forgot. 12:39 I knew I would find his base eventually. I have a habit of scouting the map from top side to bottom side when searching for my opponent. 13:46 Well of course, 11. Gotta have her bring the wood to set up the dock 11. But in seriousness, I could have sworn I shift clicked her to the lumber mill before sending her to the pond. 14:00 I built the tower to prevent his villagers from going forward and perhaps toward my gold. 11 14:23 I learned all my farming techniques from you T90. But at least I build them next to the mill and not 10 feet away. 22:12 Your comment made my day! 23:00 I only spotted the stables because i first saw the relic and built a monastery there. Also, I gave up water because I felt that I didn't want to waste the macro on something that was going to run out soon. It might not have been the best but I wasn't sure how much defense he had on water. 25:10 I queued the pikes before I saw the light cav. I saw the stables with the monk and started making pikes w/ a checkpoint at my farms. 28:48 I would sign up instantly 11. 29:08 I made petards just for the mastapiece 11. I knew I could have made rams or trebs, but I couldn't let red have all the mastapiece moves. 35:00 I thought my knights had cleaned those scouts up but I guess I missed some. I didn't hear the attack bell and I don't have the game awareness of a 1600+ player 11. 35:48 Yes we saluted each other. We both laughed and said gg. This was the craziest game I have ever played. Thanks T90 for casting it. P.S. My elo was 1064 during this and his was 1104. Now I'm at 1111. P.P.S. I went towers to attack the fishing ships at his docks. P.P.P.S. I'm going to be playing in a low elo/average elo tournament hosted by Age of Noob (Spirit of the Law has him on his recommended channels) on Twitch sometime early May if people are tired of pro play.

T90, some thoughts about low ELO: 1 - is more appealing to lots of players, because we identify more with the way the game develop (there are more low ELOs than high score players); 2 - playing the campaign mode influence low ELO to do things that are not so good on matches, but make sense on single play; 3 - we can't multi task like higher ELO, so that's why we are so sloppy on several moves.

4. Low Elo is less "strictly meta". It's more varied and interesting.

@@Katniss218 my thoughts exactly. mid elo is usually where all the thinking is at. high elo is just, most of the time (with exceptions) of course, brain-dead meta following or lose. its a skill by itself, requiring lots of dedication and practice, and require to do lots of alternations during the game due to the situations, but i find mid elo in most RTS's to be more interesting to watch after having watched pretty much all the latest meta plays.

I recommend what WinterGaming did for bronze league heroes. He set up discord server where subs were able to rate the submitted games. Then Winter just casts the most "worthy" games and he doesnt have to watch them himself before the casting, so most of the time he is surprised by the game

I have been thinking the same thing. I used to be around 1700-1800 on HD, which was a respectable ELO for a mediocre player. Nowadays however I struggle to get to 1300 ELO (1V1) because the level is so high :p

1000 elo is above average now (800 is closer to true average in DE) because T90 has pros boost his elo he doesn't realize how hard it is now at this rating. These players are clearly not incompetent and don't make actual noon mistakes. This match looked like pure chaos to play so of course somethings will be sloppy. Hell even with pro players you see similar mistakes in situations like this.

I tried my first 2 ever ranked game last week (I play casually AoE since CD version) and watch some pro play, and yet both game I just got rushed in the first game by 15 mins, and the second by 20 mins, not even I had 2 castles in my base and it felt like I got smurfed twice

The lack of archers in these LEL games intrigues me. On many maps you'll get pros wandering around with groups of foot archers, skirms or a mix of both. You don't see LELs shooting over walls or tree lines, even though their melee troops often repeatedly get blocked from their targets. Yet, the pros will have them marauding around even without walls.

I chased down his villagers with my villagers, and he resigned after losing too many vills in vill fighting. I couldn't believe it actually worked. I was so hyped! Back when Starcraft II was popular, there were a couple of series like this called "Bronze League Heroes", and to an extent, "Funday Monday" (there were some top players who chipped in a game with the Funday Monday restriction, but it was mostly low to mid level players). This game reminded me of those times. Side note, I've been playing since around when AoC came out, and so when people say, "wait, you can attack/build/repair diagonally through walls?!one1?"" I say, "duh! It's been like that since AoK!". Young me had run into a lot of crazy tricks and exceptions, though I still learn a thing or two. Glad this old game has been catapulted into the modern RTS arena and inspiring a new generation of gamers. :)

What I really like about AOE2 is how the game lead can change hands a few times. It takes a lot to close out a push, so it gives the defender a chance to get back in the game. Most RTSs have one player get the upper hand and never look back.

@@Justjustinp I am absolutely not the red player. My name ingame is Freyja, and I haven't actually played in a few weeks. I did some ranked games a couple months ago due to all the TC drop games that T90 had casted, because it made me really want to play some Age again. My current rating is 1101, and I can't see what my high was anymore, as it wants me to play one more game to get ranked again, which is unfortunate. I'm 10-9, and I do know my high was around 1180. To, which, well, I have lost 48% of my games now! I suppose that places me at around the 1100 rating mark which I am, assuming I keep my 50% win rate, which I do believe is where my level of play is.

I've watched a few videos before low elo legends, but I subbed for low elo legends. I know I will never be top tier at this game. I like building pretty cities too much and I tend to like slow paced strategy games so some of the unique stuff that low elo players do is great to see.

T90 isn't the end all be all of AoE knowledge even Hera says it's okay to send a villager or two to stragglers because u can use them as aux villagers then (ie they're ready to be used for whatever)

This is a good series man, keep it up. Casters usually focus on top player. Giving us a view of mediocre players is not only fun, we also learn a lot more about the game. There is very little point in my opinion to emulate top player when someone can't even manage the most basic things well.

Exactly!!! I'm so frustrated, too. He had almost no eco upgrades and no military upgrades. I'm really sure he just won his games up to this point with the persian douche, because there are many players who don't know how to deal with it. He threw it so hard, it's infuriating. He produced goddamn light cav against pikes and didn't raid, he straight up fought against them. How blatantly stupid can you get? Then again, I'm often wondering how people can play the game without knowing what the techs are for? It's like playing Sonic without knowing how to spin dash or like playing mario without knowing how to jump. WTF?

I actually disagree think Teal was the better player but Red was more the aggressive one so he looked better. Teal clearly had a better grasp at eco and managing his resources. Red was building three stables when he had no TC. I think it makes sense that Teal won and the longer the game went the more obvious it was going to be that Red was a new player who's only been winning because of his super aggro. While Teal wins games by being more competent.

Honestly don't think these players are anywhere near the same skill level. Teal responded to the TC drop correctly by ignoring it, the tower @ 14:10 was smart to deny the gold to his enemy, and he made and upgraded units that could counter his enemy's. Meanwhile red completely failed to understand the concept of quickwalls, responded to pikemen with more cavalry, and failed to rebuild his TC in a smart position. Teal made a lot of mistakes (particularly in not defending his eco villagers), but overall his gameplay and game sense was far superior to red's and this is reflected in the fact that he ultimately steamrollered his opponent.

This was kinda dumb though well deserved win for justin, red seemed to know what he was doing until we found out he couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag which has a knife attached to the inside with a sign saying use me. all he had to do was build pikes to save his tc.
