Tabarca Island Travel Guide | Alicante, Spain

In this travel guide I will telling you everything you need to know about visiting Tabarca Island, including what to do here, how to get here, where to eat, the best beaches, etc. Tabarca Island is one of my favourite places to visit in the Costa Blanca as I absolutely love snorkelling and this place is great for it! The water is extremely clear here and you will see many different types of marine life. Whether you’re living in Spain or on holiday, Tabarca Island should definitely be on your list of places to visit.
You can grab a boat from any of the different ports along the coastline such as Benidorm, Alicante, Torrevieja and others. But we would recommend getting the boat from Santa Pola as it’s closer to Tabarca island, which means a shorter boat journey which also costs less. Another advantage with travelling from Santa Pola is that you don’t have a specific timetable to follow and you get to choose what suits your plans. Whereas, at the other ports, you may have set times that you need to follow.
As you arrive at the port in Santa Pola you will see a row of huts selling tickets for 10 euro return. You can get your tickets online in advance but you generally don’t need to as there’s numerous boats running all day. Remember to keep hold of your ticket as you’ll need this for your return journey. Make sure you know the time of your last boat to the mainland so you don’t miss it. If you do want to get one of the later boats, these can get quite busy, so I would recommend getting in the queue early to avoid disappointment. The journey from Santa Pola takes approximately 20 minutes depending on sea conditions. Always remember to check the weather when planning your visit as, if the weather is bad, the boats won’t run.

We went there in 1987.. Iwe used to camp thrte before it became a reservation. . Anitas restaurant was a shack, with a genny, no electricity at night. Marie te was the only medical person at the center. There used to be police patrol around the island on zodiac, all the tourists left at 6pm, and the hardcore stayed on to camp at the end past the castle, and make fires to cook and drink, play guitar and tell stories all night.

We were there yesterday, it's absolutely gorgeous ❤ loads of sweet cats and tiny birds that eat off your hand.❤❤ I would love to go snorkeling there, but from the glass bottomed boat there were loads of jellyfish, so it's put me off 😅

Great video...I am a new subscriber from NYC... I am planning to retire somewhere on the "Costa Blanca " So many beautiful places...It's so hard to decide where to land. loved our day on this Island, went in February 2020, a bit too cold to snorkel but still in the mid-20s on the island. Hopefully, we can visit again this winter. BTW Dolphins have flippers, people wear fins (quoted from my old dive instructor) lol. Liked and subscribed

Tabarca is beautiful. I’d live in Alicante if I had the money. I’m also learning Spanish (European) and Portuguese (Brazilian). I may go to Tabarca with a friend of mine who’s a violinist. He’s English and he’s also studying Spanish.

Careful on the La Pandera rocks, they can be slippy. There are large slower boats or faster smaller boats from Santa Pola.

Yeah some of the rocks can be quite slippy, that's why I think good water shoes help :)
