Now let's see them in order: The first one is the Soproni branded IPA - Óvatos duhaj (careful rambunctious). It is a beer indeed, a nice and bit spicy specialty from one of our greatest Brewery. Sopron is the city of loyality with great history. Then there is the Borsodi branded beer, called Friss (Fresh). Borsod is a county in Hungary, the Brewery was named after its location. Tho it is a beer, indeed, it has a bit more juice flavor, that can overwhelm the beer flavor. Many likes it, its a bit too sweet and juicy for my taste. Then you had the Körözött or Kevert túró (Mixed túró). Now túró is a special cheese in Hungary, that is processed as a cheese, but no one really thinks of it as one. Its a unique cottage cheese-like thing. You can make both sweet and sour meals with it. the one you tried is a paprika flavored Hungarian dish. We spread it into bread it contains túró, tejföl (similar to the sour cream you know), onion, garlic and paprika. Its a ideal for a light supper in a warm summer evening with some freshly cut green onions. After that there was the Pannónia cheese. Hungary in the Roman times was called Pannónia, this is the originality of the name. Now this is a brand and a type of cheese as well. Next is the Kalocsai Paprika. Kalocsa is a city by the Danube river, and they are famous from unique motives and embroidery just as well as the paprika. In Hungary we use 2 types of paprika: one is a spicy and one is a sweeter version, that is usually for coloring our dishes. You tried the sweet option. Then tere was the Vegeta. Now vegeta is a brand named after the plant: lovage. And the name of the product as well. Below that, the "ízek mestere" is a slogan that translates into master of tastes. Other than the herb it contains salt of course and a bit of other herbs and spices that makes any dish a bit more Hungarian. Tho I do not think anyone ever put it on pasta just like that, but you do you :D We only use it to cook and season dishes. Next one: Piros arany (Red Gold). this one is the hot version. This is a spreadable paprika cream. Its good for sandwiches and to season dishes as well. The other tube I think is the 'Csemege', that stands for lighter a version, but translates as delicacy or sweet. While the yellowish tube was indeed horseradish and mayo paste. Popular in the Easter season with hard boiled eggs, ham and green onions. From the sweets the first one was the Francia drazsé, by Bonbonetti (French dragée). I am not familiar with its history, but I am pretty sure it has not much to do with the french. Maybe the idea was coming from them. It is like the M&M's or Smarties, just smaller. It is kind of Retro here, but just could not loose its popularity. Pilóta by Győri édes. It translates as Pilot and the brand is Sweet of Győr. Győr is a city in Hungary, tho the factory closed after Mondaléz bought it. Now I think its made in Székesfehérvár as well, that is another city. It is a vanilla and cacao flavored cookie with chocolate filling. Tho Pilóta is like a sub-brand name, because we have many other kind of sweets from pilóta, including the vanilla rings with chocolate coding, or the jelly filled half choco, half sponge-cake version. Your next pick was the Sthümer manufactured dark chocolate. I cannot say much about the chocolate bar itself, because you figured out perfectly what it is, maybe about the brand, as one of the biggest and oldest chocolate brand. Kapucíner is part of a series called Ízvilág (Flavor-world). This peculiar chocolate bar is coffee and cream filled, but the series includes coconut, sour cherry, cacao and walnut flavor... I never drink coffee and don't like it at all, but I still cannot say no to a bar of Kapucíner :D Now for the best of all: the TúróRudi. It is the best brand, the Pöttyös (Translates as dotted). The first you tried is the original simple flavored. Dark chocolate coding around the túró. The exact same thing, that you eat with the Körözött earlier. As I told you, you can eat in sweet as well, so its basically a sweetened cottage cheese covered with dark chocolate. The other flavor was the marron one, it was a limited flavor. You can still find many popular flavors like Peach filling, or Plum-jam filling, nuggat filling, strawberry filling, or you can chose the milk chocolate coding or the youghurt coding as well. The most popular brand and the most unique and beloved sweet. I never understand how this never infested the world with its fantastic flavor, but somehow its still something you can only get in Hungary. Balaton. Another popular and old treat from the Győri company. Balaton is our (and middle Europe's) biggest and most popular lake(We call it Hungarian sea), with unique flora, fauna and sights around it. The red version is the dark-chocolate one, the blue is coded with milk chocolate. Next one is the Sport bar, I believe it does not requires many translation. The text on the right side is just an event slogan, that means every 4th is winning. This is a cacao, rum and walnut flavored chocolate bar. And the name pretty much agrees with you as a protein bar. but its still a sweet, and not really recommended for those on diet. The next one was the Szerencsi branded Alphabet chocolate. This is a retro chocolate with letters and little figures that starts with the letter on the cowering your cases the S was for Sün (Hedgehog) and the Sz (yes we have some weird double letters and even a triple) stands for Szitakötő (Dragonfly). Szerencsi is another of the biggest Hungarian sweet manufacturers, named after the town, Szerencs. Its a plain, simple and lovely chocolate bar. And they supposed to be the same :D The last two are also from the Győri company. They are hard candy designed to take care of sore throat. Below stand the slogan: a torok kéményseprője, that translates as the chimney sweeper of the throat. The classic flavor is the anis-menthol, the other one is just menthol. And it is NOT liquorice. Hope you enjoyed the all, and we can expect you to visit our country. At your service any time. Have a nice one guys :D

Couple of corrections :)- The "körözött" is from "túró", which is essentially a type of milk curd / cheese curd; it uses both standard cow cheese and ewe cheese.- The "horseradish" is actually horseradish and mayo- The "cherry chocolate" is actually sour cherry cream filling- The alphabet chocolates are identical and come with every letter of the hungarian alphabet (S for sündisznó (hedgehog, not caveman) and Sz for szúnyog (mosquito, not dragonfly) ;)- The Túro Rudi filling is not banana but "túró" (the same as the körözött)- The Sport Szelet is not a protein bar, it's rum flavoured

Greetings from Hungary! 🇭🇺 😉 0:46 Yes, that's a beer. 🍺 01:53 That's also a type of beer, but grapefruit flavoured. 🍺 02:59 Mmm... 😏 Well, I don't know if it even have an English name for it, but it contains*: cottage cheese, sour cream, butter, purple onion, salt, chives, pepper... (*ingredients can be different) The 🟧 color comes from the 🟥 color of the pepper. 🌶️ 😉 04:13 Yes, cheese. 🧀 "Pannónia" is the actual name of that cheese, it's a "lactose free" version, and matured for 8 weeks. Also, it's produced in much larger size and it was cut ("darabolt") to smaller blocks, just like that. 05:17 That's basically a "regular" red pepper grinded to fine dust. 🌶️ 07:13 Well, that's a dry mix of "vegetables" with salt. Usually it's used in soups. 🍲 10:14 It's "regular 'red gold' food seasoning paste". Basically, it's some kind of pepper paste. 🌶️ 11:10 That's the hot version of it. "Csípős" means "hot". 😉 12:06 "Horse-radish with mayonnaise" paste. 13:17 It can be called something like "French dragees", which is small in size, the inside is some kind of chocolate and the outer layer is coloured "candy". 😊 13:50 "Győri" is the brand name and "Pilóta" means "pilot" and it's the name of this biscuit which has chocolate flavour. The structure is kinda similar to Oreo. 05:03 Dark chocolate with cherry "rum" flavoured filling. 🍫 16:03 It's some kind of chocolate with "cappuccino" flavoured inside. 17:12 "Pöttyös" means "polka dotted", and that product is known to be unique from Hungary! 🇭🇺 Basically, chocolate coated cottage cheese bar. Multiple versions exist, including "natural" without any flavouring (eg. jam)... 😊 19:09 Yes, that is basically milk chocolate covered wafer layers. "Balaton" is the bigest lake(!) of Hungary. 🇭🇺 20:15 "Sport" is written the same way in English, too. 😉 (You can ignore that "4." yellow segment, that's just a "promotion" thing.) It's a soft chocolate bar with "rum" flavoured cacao filling. 🍫 21:18 Well, on the "SZ" bar that's a "dragonfly", and on the "S" bar that is actually a cartoonish "hedgehog", not a caveman. 😁 "Szerencsi" is the brand name, and those are 40% dark chocolate bars. 🍫 23:11 Negro is a hard candy. 🍬 It says something like this: "It's the chimney sweeper of the throat." Three different type available: classic, menthol and also honey (which not included in this video). You guys are great, thanks for the countless great words about all these good Hungarian 🇭🇺 products! 👍

Well, anything to procrastinate, so here’s what you’ve eaten Óvatos Duhaj - a lager beer from the Soproni (based on the distillery in the city Sopron) brand named Careful partyer(?) Google say it’s bacchanalian but the original word is more fratboy/animalistic Friss - it means Fresh, a lager beer from Borsodi (from county Borsod, again, might be manufactured elsewhere nowadays) with Grapefruit Körözött - it is the name of this type of cottage cheese spread with paprika some cumin, sometimes onions, sour cream, eggs, etc. Házias just means homely as maybe mild compared to hotter versions. Pannónia - the roman province that covered some of Hungary’s territory, Darabolt means chopped, end it’s an Emmental/Swiss type cheese Paprika - yeah, you know that. Finom örlésű means fine grain. Kalocsa is again a territory, that might be the origin of the paprika but… Vegeta - that is just a name, maybe based on the lot of vegetables it claims to consist of. It is kind of a touchy subject around here, since some people overuse it, and others consider it he death of culinary arts. I’m neutral on this but I think you shouldn’t use that much on noodles, it is more like for soups, maybe sauces. Piros Arany - Red Gold. Csemege is mild Csípős is hot. (Erős Pista Strong Steve is hotter I guess), it’s again paprika Majonézes Torma - Horseradish with mayo. Mild. Francia drazsé - French dragee (droplets?), sugar coated chocolety things, all taste the same regardless of color Pilóta - pilot. BIO meggyes krémmel töltött étcsokoládé - Dark chocolate with bio sour cherry crème filling, from the company Stühmer Kapuciner - as you guessed, Cappuccino (Óriás) Pöttyös Túró Rudi - Polka dotted cottage cheese fingers (Giant). Technically rudi is a cute nickname for a small rod, rod-kun. So yeah, it is similar to Kőrözött, but of course it uses sweetened cottage cheese. Balaton - our main lake, the Balaton. If you like wafers, there are milk and dark versions also a more nutty one. Sport - Definitely not a protein bar (it most likely predates protein powder’s popularity in the country by decades), but theres some rum flawor in it, which is nice. Szerencsi - that is the manufacturer, it called (maybe it is written somewhere else) Állat ABC: Animal ABC. All taste the same, you got a Sün (Porcupine) and a Szúnyog (Mosquito). Black (let’s leave it that way…) - and their tagline is The chimneysweep of the throat (yeah, from a less dirty minded time). From an Italian guy by the same name. The original is anise-mentol, it’s exact ingredients are a secret but yeah, there’s liquorice. Sorry if I missed one, and please keep in mind I’m not an official translator.

almost. - Óvatos duhaj a semi-craft sub-label of the soproni brewery (a big commercial brewery in hungary), they have four beers now: IPA (which is a standard IPA), APA (which is a more fruity American PA, Meggy IPA (a cherry IPA) and Démon (a dark malt lager, closer to a stout, but not quite there). you guys should try the APA! the point is IPA is NOT lager. - Vegeta is actually a Yugoslavian invention, it's salt, MSG and dehydrated vegs. - Szerencsi used to be the biggest Hungarian table chocolate manufacturer, and these petite tablets used to teach the ABC to kids. they used to taste horrible, now they're kind of OK. - Negro is a lozenge, used to be the most popular before Verbena and Halls invaded. it's still quite popular.

There is actually a kinda fun/sad running gag over hungary. We call our biggest lake (Balaton) a sea. It's not a big lake, but it's all we have (this is the mentality most hungarian people have in general by the way). So the way it started was that back in the day Hungary was a much, much larger country. After the 2 world wars we lost most of our land, sea, and just generally, a lot. So people, i guess, started calling Balaton our new sea. There you go

Vegeta spice is not Hungarian but Croatian (their southern neighbor) made by Croatian company Podravka; although I just googled and saw that there are some lisence sold for use to austria and hungaty, but the origin and original is Croatian.
@Momo-ok1oo5 жыл бұрын
Just because maybe it is made somewhere else does not mean that it not originally from Hungary. It is hungarian. Don't google, ask people. End of story.
@Ralesk5 жыл бұрын
Asking people gives you rumours, googling it and looking it up in, say, Wikipedia will give you facts. So no, Momo, that's both not true and not a good way to approach things. It is a Croatian invention that is super popular in Hungary. I didn't care about the origin of things (I'm pretty sure there are other items not Hungarian in the bag), but Vegeta is just so ubiquitous here I couldn't leave it out. It's more a "things popular/interesting in Hungary" haul than a "things invented in Hungary" one.

And read up on these foods online, im sure you can look them up :) But I'm glad you liked them! :)

Friss just means “fresh”, it’s not supposed to be a brand name. 😀 Vegeta is just a mix of dried veggies and herbs, like carrot, celery, onion, tomato, garlic. More often than not, it’s used to simply complement salt. My mum puts Vegeta in almost every savory soup she makes. I would have never thought of spreading pasta with Vegeta just as it is, but after this, I wonder how it tastes. :D As for Pöttyös Túró rudi, it’s really a retro sweet and such a Hungaricum that nobody understands why foreigners don’t like it as much as we do. Although, there are a lot of variations out there today, but the best is the original “plain” one, in my opinion. By the way, it’s simple cottage cheese, túró means cottage cheese. Balaton is our national lake, also called Hungarian sea, hence the sea on the packaging. Sport szelet is definitely not a protein bar (I wish it was). Negro is often used for throat sore, especially the version that’s filled with honey. I wish you had tried that one, too!

OMG, you two are adorable!!! First video from you that I have seen and now I must go watch the other ones too! I was born in Budapest, but have lived in Canada for many years. The paprika in the tubes as paprika paste....you add it to food so it melts in while cooking. The Vegeta is used to help flavour soups, stews, etc. You two were very adventurous to put it on plain noodles! Love how your faces light up when you're enjoying something. Keep up the good work and bon appetite!

Vegeta is actually the name of the spice powder. It's made in Croatia, and it's a mixture of dried vegetables, condiments, and spices (salt, pepper, carrots, onions, parsnip, garlic, celery root, parsley, turmeric, etc.). It's used all over Balkans and nearby parts of Europe, usually in soups, potages, broths, and the like, but people also like to use it instead of plain salt on a variety of dishes, like roasts, casseroles, or even just sprinkled over buttered toast. This is the first time you're trying something from my neck of the woods and I'm so happy you like it ^_^

Guys, just a quick recommendation. Both the 'Vegeta' and the paprika spices are best mixed into soups when the soup is still hot, and it is very important that you mix it well. You can see in the video that there's still pieces of paprika powder in the soup. It should not be like that. In general when you mix these spices, the best results you're going to get if you mix them in the stew/soup/sauce while cooking. The vegeta is best when you make Hungarian chicken soup, ramen, or any kind of NOT creamy soup that consists vegetables and noodles.

Guy you are amazing. I tried to comment on some of the food you tried. The grapefruit drink is like shandy (beer mixed with fruit drink). The 'korozott' is a spread made out of curd cheese, butter, paprika and other spices. The 'vegeta' seasoning is mainly used for cooking such as soup, rice but it's versatile so you can used it as you wish (like adding it to the noodle). The two different 'piroshki's Aran' paste is paprika paste and can be used for seasoning while cooking, decoration on sandwiches. Csipos mean spice, csemeg means deli/sweet. The horseradish you both liked is mixed with mayonnaise. It's a 'must have' at the easter table with ham and boiled eggs. The chocolate bar with the filling you liked is actually sour cherry filling. There is a version available and very popular that has an actual sour cherry soaked in alcohol inside. The 'Turo Rudi' is (again) curd cheese based cream covered with chocolate. I usually just explain to friends that it is a chocolate covered cheesecake bar. The 'sport' bar is chocolate with rum aroma so definitely not a protein bar :) The two 'Szerencsi' chocolate bar is actually identical the only difference is the packaging which comes with the letters of the alphabet and a picture of an animal starting with the letter. You had the letter S for sun (hedgehog) and the letter SZ for szunyog (mosquito).

I could see some people adding to this video, if I can, I'd try elaborating more :) körözött is simply cottage cheese spread, usually mixed up with paprika in it. That's why it's also called "magyaros" sometimes. :) the cheese is Pannonia (which was Trappist cheese before), eredeti = original, darabolt = cut up chunks vegeta itself is our Hungarian version of monosodium glutamate. We put it in all our cooked foods :D I'd dissolve it in some water though, because otherwise your food stays dry :) A pity you didn't try our goulash cream in a tube! :)) Majonézes torma = horseradish with mayo. Classic :D Pilóta cookies are basically Hungary's Oreo's. But better!! :D:D:D The Cherry bonbons are also a very traditional, alcohol-filled bonbon you can get in our country. :) Kapucíner, Szamba, Autós, Balaton, and the rest are around for more than 50 years now! You taste a piece of history now :) Balaton btw is named after the biggest lake in Hungary. Strange how you say our desserts are not that sweet, they are supposed to be the sweetest in the EU :) Túró Rudi is a cottage cheese cream filled bar. It originates from the Russian dessert syrok, however, we Hungarians started manufacturing it in a tube-like form. Thus came the trend again, 50+ years ago :) Today we have like 20 varieties. Sport szelet has a lot of commercials aiming for sports (lol). Inside you have rum-flavored chocolate. Really tasty, hard to stop :) Szerencsi chocolate factory is one of the oldest one in Hungary. Nowadays they release a lot of retro chocolates, like the ones you've tried :) fun fact: Negros are classic, hard bonbons, for the throat. Nowadays though you need to be aware, because, even though it's not alcoholic, you can actually get tested positive on alcohol screening by the Police after having one. Also, the name has absolutely no racist reference. It's related to chimney cleaners originally. I hope you've enjoyed a little bit of Hungarian cuisine :)

Hi guys, nice to see you try some stuf from Hungary. The paprika powder and and vegeta are mostly used during the cooking process of soups and goulashes (at the start of a fairly longer cooking process), so they may taste a bit harsh when you add them directly to the foodstuff and taste it that way. However you can do that too, the freedom of cooking is above everything. :)

Negro Classic is actually just anise flavoured, but yeah, that's similar enough to liquorice that it can cause trouble for people who don't like it :D The main idea was to send things that are common and popular here, and if I bring Negro, it would be a mistake to not get the original one. - I think the idea that Satoshi might have "fun" eating this crossed my mind a split second, but I had completely forgotten about it until they opened the bag on the video.
