Thanks, I'm a grown adult and I don't use math on a day to day basis. I like popping on your channel at times to refresh my memory. I pause at the beginning to try to solve the problem and then I follow the lesson once I'm done solving it. I loved school back in the day. I wish I could do it all again!

Here is the deal here. You are quite correct in stating that one needs to read the problem. This problem is essentially two (2) questions. The questions are as follows: 1. 30 is 7% of a number. What is THAT number? 2. What do you get if you multiply THAT number by 2? I have found that teaching students how to reframe the question typically gets a better result every time! So here is how you break it down: If you ask some number, (30) is a percent of that number, then you figure this out by dividing the given number by the fraction. The 2nd question is obvious, just multiply by 2 What most students have difficulty with is reframing the language to get to an easy to understand idea. The main idea here is some number is a percent of another number, and you frame this as : Take the result number and divide by the fraction. Two concepts here: What is a percent? A percent is a fraction (0 to 1) times 100. For example 7 percent can be rewritten as 0.07, and 12 percent can be rewritten as 0.12 So .... if 30 is 7% of a number translates to The number = 30/0.07 --> This is the most important point! Many many years ago, while I was going through high school, my science, (physics) teacher, promoted me to tutor. One of the things I did was to teach my fellow classmates on how to rephrase questions so that they can easily get to crank-turning for solutions. Did they understand what they were doing? Probably not! Did they get to the point where they can consistently get the correct answers? absolutely!

30 is 7%....1% is 30divided by 7.......4.2857....therefore the number is 100 times that is 428.57 X 2= 857.14

I learned percentages using this formula. Part 0ver total percent over 100; 30/X = 7/ 100; cross multiply . 3000=7x . x= 428.572; 428.572 X 2 = 857.143

Greetings. The answer is 857.14. Let us assume that the number is X. Now 7% of that number is equal to 30. That is 7X%=30, and 7X=3,000. This gives X=428.57, rounded to 428.6. The product of this number and 2 is 428.57×2=857.14.

⇒≈857.143 30/.7*2=x 600/7=x x=857.142857142 or ... (I was checking my answer using a slightly different variation of equations (30-.7x and then y=2x). It is not profound but it was fun to find that 142857 is the string for divided by 7. 13 has a 12 number strong, 17 has a 16 number string, 19 has an 18 number string, 23 has a 22 number string ... like I said. Not profound as I am certain there is a paper somewhere talking about these things. But it was fun exploring.

This is one that I use every time I shop. Use it to figure out total tax on an item. 2x = 2 * (30/.07). Hope that’s correct.
