In my math class, our teacher always wanted us to have a set of 3 coordinates for linear equations. I think he did that to prepare us for parabolic equations.
@SuperFerdie19653 жыл бұрын
The problem with the intercept method is it doesn't work if b=0. For example, y=5x. All you would get is the point (0,0) twice! In a case like that, I would revise my table and just work out the values of y when x=0 and when x=1. You'd then arrive at the fact that (0,0) and (1,5) lie on the line.

Are you kidding? Time Space and Events are pretty much in your daily life from the time you get up till the time you go back to bed. How long does it take you to get somewhere by plane, by train, by car? ...and so much more including every second of your daily life. How about vaccinated people VS unvaccinated and the number of deaths on both sides? Think of anything graphs apply.

JESUS ALVAREZ why the condescending comment? It was a perfectly legitimate question to ask from someone who is trying to understand maths like myself. I am here trying to learn maths at the age of 58yrs as in school I struggled with it. Why are you here if you already know how to do maths?
@jesusalvarez60803 жыл бұрын
@@silajeep1 I actually had the same question for my teachers and, as simple as that, none could answer it, just like his went unanswered so I thought it was my time to respond, what is so condescending about it? Oh, and to answer your question: because I always loved math, I miss it and it brought me memories as I hardly use it any more but I know what algebra is for.

@@silajeep1 Yeah I know what you mean, in all honesty I actually thought Edmund's question was more related to sarcasm rather than one who was seeking knowledge; yet, on the other hand, you could be right, in which case is my bad.

Did u multiply the answer of 4y/4 =12/4 so the answer is y=3?
Basically X and Y are both equal to 2? Am I correct? 2×2+4×2=12. That's the breakdown I got.
@ВалерийКорин3 жыл бұрын
Why come up with any theories? The only theory is simplicity. 1. If x and y are in the first degree, then the graph is a straight line. 2. Two points are needed to draw a straight line. 3. To simplify arithmetic calculations, we take alternately x and y equal to zero, because multiplying zero by any number will be zero. If the line passes through the point (0; 0), then we substitute any other number instead of x or y, for example 1. that's all. One minute of explanation is enough. For this example, at first it would be nice to simplify it by dividing the left and right sides of the equation by 2 and getting x + 2y = 6. More than 50 years ago, we did it like that.
@HoratioTalbot771_a3 жыл бұрын
Cant you just divide both sides of 2x+4y=12 by 2+4. and get x=1. and y=1 ?
@andtrrrot3 жыл бұрын
No. The assignment is to graph the line. The solutions are all the points on the line. If you plug 1,1 back into the equation, you can see that it is not a point on that line. 2(1)+4(1) does not =12. Substituting 1,1 back into the equation does not make a true statement. Therefore they are not a solution to the equation.

I thought you were just solving this equation with algebra but I was in correct . If you were. x. and y would both be 1
