I've yet to play Sharp Practice myself so pardon the ignorance - cannons only fire along a narrow corridor that they are facing along? No cannister shot?

Yea. The arc of fire for cannons is very limited. The width of the base or wheels. Makes them a challenge to use. Same applies to canister. And it only has an 18” range.
