TBH what swicthed me to Drop C tuning was Bullet for my Valentine when I was about 18. I had not long started experimenting with Drop D then Bullet just hit me like a truck. Crushing rhythms, sweeping solo's and it just went together so well. I didn't discover Bodom until I was well into my 20's in sort of 2008-2010 so I am quite a late comer to the Smashing metal core party, and yes Bodom mainly played in Drop C

Nirvana loved to tune everything down a half step, so some songs "accidentally" ended up in drop C# but are considered drop D. I'm pretty sure with Blew, the band didn't realize they were tuned down an entire step before recording, so the song ended up in true drop C. Precise tuning wasn't really important to them, obviously.

Still the best metal tuning, imo. Modern metal thinks that drop Z is more brutal but everything sounds muddy and the same. Drop C was the best middle ground between oomph and melody. Even early 2000s -core music was good and memorable. Nowadays, I can't differentiate bands I playlists anymore, there are no memorable riffs like Suffocating under Words of Sorrow or Confined anymore
@paulg36862 жыл бұрын
Tuning down really low doesnt automatically make every riff the same. Its the players that play every riff similarly. Or the tones they achieve that make the sound super muddy. Theres ways to drop down super low and still be interesting and melodic. Metal itself is just a somewhat stagnant genre.
