Having been a partial skeptic especially since my comment on your mention of a reel being smooth while the drag was all the way backed off (if you remember me), I'd have to be honest and give you many props for carrying out and documenting these casting tests so well. Having been away from the hobby for a minute I knew I could trust your findings as you've always put in the best effort to ensure you get the most out of a reel, as an experienced angler would with their reels! So please keep doing what you're doing, you're helping a community much bigger than you thought! Sending the best wishes from Malaysia!

Great video as always !! I've watched your BFS Olympics as well !! I have 6 budget CDM reels.. luv em ! after three years of BFS I have gone the other way (so to speak) I don't fish ultra-light baits or rods due to only targeting Bass species - Largemouth, Smallmouth & Spotted bass , my current reel lineup is all Daiwa ; Tatula 80 (heavily modified), Coastal 80 (modified) , Salamandura 70 (stock), Alphas 800-S (modified), every one of these reels with mods are $200 or less, that's important to me !! Always luvin your work, thanks again !!

I don’t fish BFS but enjoyed the article and your video. Great job! It shows that you are a Shimano fan. I used to own Shimanos 2 decades ago, but back then the technology was antiquated and you had to remove a side plate to adjust breaks! Glad we went away from that. Fishing all Zillions now and glad I don’t have to deal with that anymore. How times change!
@THEREELTEST3 ай бұрын
most shimanos for the last 10 years have had external brake adjustment

Can’t really go wrong with Shimano or Daiwa. Both build consistent, quality reels
@TheAthomasait3 ай бұрын
I have an Aldebaran, Conquest, and SS Air. In the beginning I preferred the Daiwa because it’s easier to use, but with a little bit of experience, the Shimanos really shine. However, as great as all three are, setting the brakes to zero is asking for a disaster. I kind of think the testers are full of it.

I'm new to BFS and the ARK outcasts my Aldebaran with 3 grams and below in my hands. I've had the Alde for 2 years and I got the ARK recently. I use the Dobyns and Phenix BFS rods. I mainly fish with 3-7 gram lures and prefer to use 4lb flouro.
@THEREELTEST3 ай бұрын
shouldnt be too surprising since the ARK spool is smaller and lighter than the Aldebaran spool

I ve been BFS’ing Ark Gravity BFS now for one year now, and this reel is the best, easy to adjust, the best with VarivasPE 10lb/ .6Go braid, and hot dam its has best casting distance. Caught 5lb on it. And I love the click drag on the baitcaster❤❤❤❤

Nice video. But I’ve learned that ANY tests performed by ANYONE is very subjective. There are too many variables to record with total accuracy. As far as distance…a slight gust of wind, the testers arm tiring, etc can alter the #’s. To me the only way to actually publish charts like these is to perform them indoors with a machine that can repeat the same motion over and over. They do this with golf clubs, never a human. I realize that we do not fish indoors but for an accurate comparison, it should be performed as I mentioned.

Use the new Haibo Ultra Air and start them at a 1/4 ounce down to 1/16 ounce,for more normal bfs range.

The weight of the tackle doesn't matter as much as density, if they used a 1/32oz sinker for their testing they would be able to throw much further than with a trout magnet weighing the same.

true, thats why I wish they would have told us what they casted

My kk kestrel casts bfs weights great and isnt over breaked for bfs fishing. I do use braid to leader on all my bfs reels and ultra light casting reels. Imo the kk kestrel elite is a solid reel and does great with braid but imo its over prices even at 199$. I gave 132$ for mine and thats a good price. The curado bfs is imo a excellent bfs reel but nit a ultra light casting reel. It does down to a 2.5g 3g maybe at a ok distance. Havent tested the ark but have heard great things, ill probably ho with the arise though as its cheaper lol. Im sure they casted bfs lure weights and not ultra light casting weights. Bfs casting is not ultra light casting and most these reels are bfs reels not ultra light casting reels. They arent designed to drop below the 2 or 3g range.
@THEREELTEST3 ай бұрын
no, a few of these reels were advertised by the manufacturers to cast down to 1 gram.
@blind_eye_fishing3 ай бұрын
@THEREELTEST yea but we both know they are bfs reels and not ultra light casting reels lol maybe a couple of them are OK on the lower end of bfs and upper end ultra light cast but not all the way into the lower spectrum of ultra light casting and fishing. Honestly there's only a handful of good ultra light casting reels I've seen but there's way more actual bfs reels that handle the bfs bass fishing which is what the whole deal started with and is designed for in the first place. People have tried colliding two styles of fishing and calling it all bfs lol there's a difference for sure. It takes a really quality reel design and the right rod to drop into ultra light casting. These are more quality bfs bass reels more so than ultra light casting gear. I think most those do fine for bfs fishing though. Abu garcia still has some ways to go and so does lews, lews reel really isn't even designed for bfs by what lews has said its a shallow spool reel meant for short flipping and skipping techniques but will handle and cast lighter lures. Shimano and daiwa imo are 100% bfs reels that can go to lower weights but not ultra light casting. The ark and some Asian reels are more designed and suited for ultra light fishing. I don't do much ultra light so most these reels are fine in my hands and with my adjustments I've gotten better results that TW did on the couple I have they tested lol. Not sure those guys knew how to truly setup and cast into bfs must less ultra light casting lol.

I’ll give them credit for trying I guess. Maybe their numbers are nonsense or it just demonstrates that there is a wide degree of variation and subjectivity in people’s casting techniques with a baitcaster
