Thanks for the helpful video. I have an SR504, which looks similar to the one in the video, but mine keeps ticking quite often lately and am wondering why and where it can be coming from since this just looks like a circuit board? it ticks when none of my 3 zones are calling for heat.

Disclaimer: I am not a licensed electrician or boiler technician but, I simply hope this helps. If using Aquastat to control boiler temperature (typically back of the boiler) with the new Taco 406-4, you will need to take the white wire of the burner and the white wire of the aquastat and tie them together with a wire nut. Then, put the red of the burner into one side of the ISOLATED END SWITCH and the red of the Aquastat into the other side of the ISOLATED END SWITCH. This allows the aquastat to disable the burner if furnace is at temperature or, if not at temperature, fire the burner.

Very helpful video as I needed this today. I have an indirect water heater with the priority switch on, and notice thermostats lights not calling for heat when the were. I turned off the priority switch and all of a sudden my other 4 zones starting calling for heat. Can you please help me understand why this can happen? Bad ZCS? I tried jumping the zones but the only way to get it to work is by turning off the priority switch. TY

Thank you so much for this video! How do you wire a double pole zone valve actuator? I'm stuck on a double pole sharkbite zone valve actuator that I just can't get instructions on how to wire it to a taco zone valve relay control. I understand the difference is that it has the ability for an offsetting on the thermostat. I'm about to give up on that option and return them and go with the taco. They cost more but it will work. Dealing with a 25 year old radiant floor heating system. The board is wired for two separate zones: Zone 4 and Zone 3. Zone 4 works perfectly, but though Zone 3 receives the signal from the thermostat, it does not appear that the signal moves across the board and out to the valve. Could it be the board is damaged? Can I move the zone 3 connection to zone 2 without issue?

thanks for the info. Question... on the taco 3 wire zone valve (as shown in your video). When 2 and 3 connect to trigger the circulator , is that when the Isolated end switch triggers the boiler ?

It closes the end pump switch on the bottom left on this zone control board. It is where the 120v black input comes in and the other black wire will be the hot for the circulator. Using a control like this, the boiler would already be up to temp and ready, thanks

How can I wire a buffer tank that has a 4006 Aqua. That is powered by end switch. The aqua then decides to power the buffer circulator or fire gas boiler.

I was hoping you'd show how you deal with the common wires from both the A/C air handler and the hydronic system. They're likely on different circuits, but, whereas there are separate 24V hots, there's only one C terminal per thermostat. If you wire the Cs together, then you could have a shock hazard with one circuit off and the other on. Alternatively, you could use the C from just one of the systems, but then the thermostats would run only with that circuit on.

So on my hydronic board when zone one calls for heat It will fire off the zone one circulator but the end switch will also be able to fire off the primary circulator on my hydronic board that supply’s the heat to the primary loop…?….

Great explanation Jason. If you only had 2 wire actuators and you jumped 3 and 4, does the pump still wait until the actuator is fully open or do you have to accommodate the flow of water another way until the actuator fully opens? Such as a differential bypass valve? Thank you

Usually on the four wire units 3 and 4 will close when the valve is completely open. On the 3 wire valves 2 and 3 will close when the valve is completely open. Thanks

I wired a three zone Taco control panel and 3 taco zone valves. I accidentally mis-wire zone valve terminal 1 and 3 to the zone control on zone 1. Did it fry that zone control on the zone control board? I was exhausted and accidentally wired blue white red instead of red white blue. Now that zone refuses to open even after it was corrected. I tried another zone valve head and no difference, I can only imagine it is the board. Is it repairable? the other 2 zones are working fine.

I the Taco unit, just wired it up to a 2007 Burnham Series 2 gas boiler with 5 Zones. Problem is the safety train from the boiler is only tied into Zone 5 so when any other Zone except Zone 5 calls for heat the Zone valves will open but boiler safety checks do not get completed. The only way I can get Zones 1,2,3,4 to get heat is to also fire Zone 5 and the safety train varifies and boiler fires. I tried putting jumpers across all 5 valve modules on the Taco but no joy. Any ideas on how to get the boiler to fire when Zone 1,2,3,4 call for heat without Zone 5 calling for heat?

Yes you would. In this video of the control, the contacts close at the bottom left on any call for heat. It is called the end pump switch. Just put power to one side of the switch and the power coming out goes to the circulating pump, thanks

I have a Taco SR506-4 6 zone switching relay and my dilemma is that I have one zone continuously running although the setting at the thermostat is at a low setting. Another zone functions as is required and another zone does not kick on at all. I can't figure out my problem. Can you help me?

You would have to check for voltage at numbers 1 and 2 at your taco zone valves and see if they have power when they are not supposed to and don't have power when they are supposed to. From there you work your way back to the switching relay. If you have the thermostat set higher than it is in the room then the r power would touch the signal wire W going back to the switching relay and you would have 24v power from 24v common to the w when read with a multimeter inside the switching relay. control for zone valve is 18 gauge and circ pump is same as rated max amps for boiler. 20 amp-12 gauge, 15 amp-14 gauge

My heat started coming on at 6pm every day. It continues to stay on even after pulling the t-stat off the wall. The online tech said it was the switching relay (taco sr501), but I have my suspicions. What else could cause the relay to come on the past 3 days at 6pm?

Are your thermostats programmable and is the hold button on instead of a program. Do you have wifi tstats and program sees you coming home?

Thermostat is a programmable honeywell, it is not wireless. We use it for ac and heat. Hold button is not on, thermostat is selected to off.

I had a Taco Zone Bad go bad, well, it worked but somehow #2 and #3 kept continuity so the boiler had a constant call for heat. The circulation pump would run all the time even though all four zone pumps on this system were closed it would just spin in place and hum. When the boiler Aquastat Relay sensed that the boiler internal temp was low it caused the boiler to kick back on and heat it back to the set boiler temp. This went on for months before it was noticed. Very inefficient but all still worked (sort of) so the homeowner never knew except they wanted to know why the boiler was always hot, even in Summer! Something to possibly look for, I never knew a Taco Zone Valve can malfunction in such a way.

i have argo arm switch relay for two zones.. i just found out that i need to install zone valve.. i bought honeywell v8043. the zone valve has 2 red and 2 yellow wires... can i some one help me... conecting the zone valve and the argo switch relay

On the zone valve the yellow wires power the motor and the red wires close when the zone valve is fully open so water can flow through but switching relays such as ARM2P are normally for when you zone off a system with multiple circulator pumps and not zone valves. s3.supplyhouse.com/product_files/ARM2P-install.pdf

Probably a silly question but how does a thermostat know when to turn the system off ie: how does it know it's reached the set temperature? is there an inline temperature sensor on a hydronic system or something else?

Great Question! When the thermostat on the wall for that zone reaches temp, it stops the 24v signal to the control board which in this case is the taco zone control system. Then the zone controller will shut that zone valve off and if there are no other zones calling for heat, it will shuit off the circulating pump. Thanks a bunch! The temperature sensor is in the physical thermostat itself the and when it sees that it's reached the desired temperature in a give room, it shuts off which, in turn, sets things in motion with the Taco ZVC.
