The Toyota Tacoma (Gen3 2016 TRD OR) is a cool truck, and with a few mods, it turns into a really sick rig. Ever since I lifted it, there has been a steady stream of "Hey Mike, what lift you got on your Taco?" questions flowing in. I answer all of the questions I could imagine you had about my Toyota Tacoma's lift, and tires. Hope it helps. Some random tags - 2016 Tacoma Lift, 3rd Gen Tacoma Suspension Lift.

Its refreshing to hear someone say you do not need to get a lift this expensive or as high quality, a spacer lift might be just as good. Great video

Seriously. Some of these guys in the offroading community spend 10-20k on suspension and gatekeep/scoff so hard when you ask questions on a more affordable way to get more clearance or run bigger tires. "Do it the RIGHT way (spend 10k minimum) or don't even bother bro!" I can understand buying quality parts so you don't have to replace it in a few years but not everyone wants a long travel 18inch suspension and 4.0 gas racing shocks with a 4 link and full cage😂

I swap wheels to trd pro wheels that have a 1 inch spacer built in with the offset. I'm just about to install OME lift with heavy front and medium rear load rating. I'm replacing the upper control arm too because they are longer to keep them out of a bind at full droop, I just might add hydraulic bump stops as well to save all this from a hard hit in a hole. Nice advice

Couple of questions for you Mike. 1) In an earlier video you had talked about some HAM stuff. Do you have your license or are you planning on any sort of comms for the Taco? 2) Any particular reason why you went with the TRD Off-Road as oppose to the TRD Pro? Any regrets with not going with a Pro or with your TRD Off-Road? I'm currently going back and forth as to which I'm going to purchase here in the near future.

Yup, I do have my Technician's license, and do have some comms in there as well. No real reason to waste money on a pro if you are planning on modifying the suspension on it anyway. Basically would be an extra $10k for a fake hoodscoop and blacked out headlights (both of which I do like though). If you have the extra coin for the Pro though, nothing wrong with that. But definitely an Offroad or a Pro - not a Sport.

Little late to the show but never do a body lift unless it’s an 80’s model truck. There’s to many electronics and wires on the newer trucks that they could end up stretched and break. Do it the right way and lift it with spacers at the very minimum.

I have a 2018 Tacoma (not 4WD only 2WD) XP edition Double Cab short bed, if I will put a trunk bed rack and the iKamper mini on top of it. Do I need to upgrade the suspensions and tire size? If so, by how much? can you please tell me exactly what I need to tell the shop tech and what specific kit to buy? Approximately how much to budget including labor? I won't use my truck on difficult terrain (deserts and inclined roads) but mostly on flat roads and slightly inclined roads in the Tennessee Smokey mountains. Much appreciated.

Correct - not sure what I said, but if it was not that, I may have just fumbled some words. If I recall correctly I was just trying to explain the height in relation to the rim, in the sense of a 285/75r17 will be taller than a 285/75r16 - as the height of the wheel does factor into the height of the tire (in addition / relation to the 75 part, which as you stated is a percentage of the width of the tire). Whew... haha

Ok so Iv lifted a ton of vehicles in my day all straight axel tho. I’m curious why do all the big name company’s like icon and king only lift Toyota’s 3 inches? I’m not saying I want to go higher I’m just curious what the reasoning is behind it? I see other not so good company’s that have 6in lifts granted it’s all drop brackets and no coil overs. I no king makes longer coil overs. Do they just not offer them on Toyota’s bc of the independence front suspension and with the control arms and cv shafts 3 is the max you can go with a coil?

A stock tacoma can handle quite a bit, honestly. So it really depends on what you're looking to do.

That stance looks like a 6” on 35s Do you think a 6” has more vibration or even your lift do you have vibration?

@@frankgulla8782 do you think I need to lift my car to go off road like this? I have stock 4runner quicksand

@@itsajoke631 no, you can go off road with the stock suspension but you will be limited to easier terrain, if you want to do harder stuff then you should lift it with bigger tires.

Maybe an incredibly dumb question, but is your spare tire stock, or is it also a KO2? Wondering if your KO2s would fit in the spare location. Thanks.

All good stuff except ..... I would never use wheel spacers. It just wears bearings to quickly. But nice truck, no doubt!
