Have you ever seen someone restore the headlight lens using Acetone mist? Somewhere here on UTube, a guy had really faded and foggy lenses, and these were very expensive headlights that within 3-5 years started looking about like yours. Kind of Ugly. He poured acetone into a metal can and put a metal funnel on top. Next, he took a torch and heated the acetone until it started to vaporize, and he directed that vapor towards the headlight lens, and you could see it clearing up before your eyes. Now, I don't know how safe it was to do this, acetone is a accelerant and very flammable. He didn't keep the heat on it the full time he was doing it, he warmed it until it started to turn to vapor, removed the heat, directed the vapor to the lens, and when it stopped producing a vapor, he added heat back to the can. It didn't take him long to do this, but they looked brand new. I've also seen folks use toothpaste and "Flitz", "Blue Magic", and even "Barkeeper's Friend", but none of them looked as good as the vaporized acetone. I haven't yet had a need to do this, but I may give it a try on my little Honda Civic that could use some TLC on the headlight lens.

I have a 2018 Gen 3. About 4 years ago and started having issues with the clear coat on the hood and roof. Reach out to dealer and Toyota corporate. They told me it was not a Toyota issue and told me to go after the maufacture of the paint. Basically they were just passing the blame.

Yep, many of the same problems: paint, headlights, fender flares and hood. I had no idea others had the same problem with the hood! Mine isn't nearly as drastic as yours but annoying nonetheless. My Indigo Ink paint succomed to UV abuse long ago and I just bit the bullet and did an inexpensive repaint. It is what it is but looks a million times better. Zero regrets. Finally fender flares... man I wish there was an OEM-looking alternative! I've been struggling with 2 of them and am just ready to pay whatever on ebay to get replacements. I'm thinking of converting to non-painted flare look to keep it simple for future replacements. The last issue I really want a long-term solution for is broken sun visors. I must have replaced each side 3x now... I appreciate the motivation this channel gives because I'm keeping my '07 forever!

2013 taco here. I recently bought a headlight restoration kit from Amazon Cerakote for$17. It turned out well and was easy to apply. When it comes to the paint issues you are having clear coat peel. My color ismagnetic Gray but mine was much worse on the hood and roof. I watched a bunch of KZbin videos and I did a wet sand, then painted with automotive spray paint then applied a clear coat. It did not turn out as well as I would have liked but it looks much better and saved me over $2,000 compared to do it professionally.. When it comes to fender flares I had to replace one but got it from a wrecking yard. This was a year ago and I paid $65 but got lucky with the same color as well that's what can be tough to find

For the headlights I’ve had good luck with the Meguiars kit. Sand with two grits, polish, and protect. Even better way is to sand them and use 2k clear in an aerosol can. More permanent fix and is easy to do.

I also have a 2014 double cab and the hood and roof look just like yours. Thinking about doing a wrap over it. Mine is Blue Ribbon Metallic. Please post results from checking on paint warranty. I've had no luck so far.

The best headlight restoration kit is made by 3M, it’s a six step process and lasts and my 08 silver Tacoma also has the same paint problems

I had the same issues with headlights on my 06 a few years ago, literally had water in it, I drilled a small hole at the deepest part on the back of the casing and drained the water out, i used a heat gun to completely dry the moisture out, and I just resealed all over the casing, , never had moisture again.

I just recently painted my hood, mines gray, and for the Fenders, look for some Automotive adhesive or glue, my cousin owns a body shop so he's my guy for these things. But look into that All my clips are basically gone, but that adhesive works great !

Yep, I had the problem you are having with your paint on the roof of your truck. What I did to fix it, I sanded and prepped it for paint, but instead of using regular matching truck paint (My 2004 Tacoma is Silver), I ordered three cans of neutral color Raptor bedliner. I also ordered three bottles of color that matched the color of my truck. I mixed the Silver Color Tint into the Raptor liner and painted the roof of my truck with the Raptor Liner. Then after it had flashed off, I next applied three coats of Max 2X High Gloss Clearcoat. It turned out GREAT! I live in Deep South Texas where it's very hot in the summer, and it's exposed to the sea salt moisture and humidity that we have down here also. I figured this would also act as additional insulation as well reflecting the sun's harmful rays from the roof. I have Dynamat in my roof to start with, and this just adds to that. So Far, so good, it looks great. I can't say if it has helped much in keeping the heat from the sun out, but it looks good and will probably outlast the truck.

I have a blue 2014 Tacoma, and it has very minor paint flaking on the pillers behind the doors, as well as inside the fenders where the engine bay is. You really don't notice it, but I don't want it spreading of course. Might order a touchup kit maybe next year when I have time.

2010 TRD access cab,,, white tacoma guy here,,,, no paint problems but it sits in the garage, changed headlights awhile back and noticed the driver fender fair was loose so I stuck some double stick tape in their to hold it until I figure what I want to do about it!!

When I did the cutting to fit my 35s, I am currently just leaving the holes from the fender flares. I thought it would drive me nuts....but not as bad as I thought. Still looks great overall. Even thought about putting stainless steel bolts in the holes that match the bolts in the roof rack.

The stock headlights on my gen2 2015 tacoma got pretty hazy. I used a headlight polish kit from turtle wax and it really worked well at removing 80% of the haze.. it's been 6 months and it still looks good, but with the haze slowly returning, I'll prob do it again in 6 months. New headlights can get pricey, the polish was around $10.

With a 2011 truck that's been otherwise well-maintained, cosmetic issues have pretty much made up my list of mods. We've been through and remedied matte black powder-coated stock wheels, terribly fogged headlights, and the stock grille painted with such a bad color match I thought it was an entirely different color. We now face faded black plastic fender flares & front bumper which I'm planning to paint, and the most immediate headache, which is my well-matched pyrite mica camper shell. It was in great shape when I bought it with the truck, but after a few years of constant sun and occasional wax, the clearcoat has rapidly begun flaking away. Still deciding between attempting another color matched repaint and risking a bad match, painting black and regretting not color matching, or wrapping black in case I change my mind again sooner or later on black as an overall choice.

I have a 2012 Tacoma with paint around the door windows chipping off also where the hood closes into the fenders, huge amount of paint chipping. Headlights are a constant problem with hazing over. I’ve tried several sanding products. All have worked good but five to six months later it’s time to do it again.

2015 pyrite mica with 110k miles. Only issues so far are seized alignment bolts and hazy headlights. I have the cerakote kit sitting in the garage waiting to do it. I'll probably wait until next spring to take care of the alignment bolts.

Bought a cheap headlight from eBay and took off the lens to put it on my retrofitted headlight that was hazy after so many years. Permanent fix but a little bit of a pain to remove the lens in my oven. Almost burned it haha

I used a basic Turtle wax (lots of elbow grease )and X2 clear coat ..it has lasted 4 years now ...some headlight guys claim the x2 will cause micro cracks in plastic ... so do your own research ...for around 35 bucks I bought myself several years of longer life out of them

I more of like a, latte light-brown tacoma guy, so I dont know if I qualify or not but whatever. I am actually impressed how well the Spicy Taco has held up, since I dont have much of the body left. I am wondering if your core supports are starting to tear, and that might be contributing to the hood issue? I had my fab guy replace them with bars. mine totally fell apart. also, I think after awhile, you will like the no flaire look. maybe, hammer the edges squarer to look like a 3rd gen. thats a great idea Ima go with that.

I just replaced my headlights with some cheap ones of ebay 70 bucks shipped had them for 3 months and they still look brand new. I also had to have my roof and hood repainted. Thats it. 2012 black Crewcab TRD offroad sitting on 3 inch pro-comp lift and 285's 17 inch. 215k miles.

2013 Tacoma here i got tired of the ugly hazy headlights so i bought the Alpharex Novas. They're expensive af but man do they make the truck look 100% better. Only problem I now have is the paint fading above the windshield. I have a pyrite mica Tacoma and bought it brand new March of 2013 Northern California

​@Tacomaholic the battery is on the driver side so when you wheel the extra weight moving around can crack the radiator core support. Check for cracks and that the bushings below are OK.

Bought a set of sequential headlights for my 17' off amazon about 18 months ago for about 400.00. The protective clear on the top of the headlight has been chipping off and starting to make its way down the front. Also got a few dead huge spiders inside the "sealed" headlight.

Same problem with clear coat flaking off on my 2007 Tacoma with Impulse Red Pearl. Lost most of the clear coat on the roof, some spots on the hood and most of the clear coat has come off of my bed sides. Looks ugly, and the paint underneath is dull. I've thought about just shooting the roof with some Rustolem clear coat spray cans to see how it would look. Curious to see what others have done to fixt the ugliness of missing clear coat!!

2015 grey experiencing similar paint issues entire front of roof, spot just forward of the antenna and it looks like the center of the hood near windshield is going to be next. Inquired at dealer for any paint related recalls/tech bulletins with no success.

I have the same issue with my hood (2014). Driver side sits around 1/2"-3/4" higher than the passenger side when latched. I also think it's from wheeling, and I don't know if there's a fix for it.

The Paint issues I think also come from many people not taking proper care of their truck. The paint on my white 2013 Tacoma looks essentially brand new still. Just been keeping up with all the washing and waxing and properly cleaning it. It's never been garaged or ceramic coated.

hey can you please make a video about brake system, I have 2014 with 120 k and start have some problem with brakes and dealer said have the ABS problem but have to replace the all unit 2,500 , master C, ABS pump, Mayo they all together un one pice, and gonna cost me 2,500 .very disappoint with Toyota .Quality going down.

My 07 Tacoma had really hazy headlights. I ended up buying a set of new ones off someone from Tacomaworld. It’s was like a facelift. Looks like a new truck. Other than that, my clear coat is starting to pee l😢. My own fault for not taking care of it.

My 2014 Tacoma is doing the same thing with the paint, on the hood and roof plus on the driver and passenger side, i tried the plasti dip and it didn't work, i tried the clear coat but it didn't last either, it's driving me crazy that it's looks so bad. The color of my truck is Spruce Mica. I thought it was a combination of Texas and California weather. But I guess that my baby is not the only one My other problem is it keeps giving the ABS, Emergency brake and Trackion light it will come on randomly while driving then go away. I did see the solution on Tacoma world but it only lasted for a few months. Other than that My Taco still a bad bish

I wish I could share pictures of my paint issue with my black in color, 2013 model. It is absolutely horrendous. Love the truck but the hood, roof, window seals, fenders, front bumper, pretty well everywhere other than the door sides and bed sides are all faded so bad my once black Tacoma, now almost looks solid gray. I’ve always took good care of the truck but man this paint thing is absolutely terrible. I could understand if I lived in a worse climate but it should not be faded as bad as it is for being a West Virginia truck its whole life. Will be following and stalking the comments for further suggestions or solutions. Also have not had any luck with my Toyota stealer-ship where I purchased the truck brand new. I’ve always avoided them at all costs but the few occasions where I had issues that I could not solve on my own they’ve done nothing but rob me. So bad I have filed multiple complaints with Toyota with no response. Any suggestions that don’t involve the stealer-ship are greatly appreciated. Love Toyota but their service departments and overall customer service is an absolute joke. I’ve never understood how the vehicles can be so good but they have such disgraceful service.

I've used the Ceracote headlight restorer, and found the process easy to follow, and the end result crystal clear lenses. However, that finish did not last as long as I expected or hoped for, so I'm going to do it again. Makes me wish for the days of glass headlights.

@@Tacomaholic four or five months before I started to see it hazing up again, mainly around the perimeter of the lens.The round lens that houses the radar function (TSS ?} is also getting cloudy, and hopefully, there will be enough ceramic solution in the pads to cover it also.

@Tacomaholic Sylvania, the bulb company, makes a good headlight restoration kit if you want to do it by hand and time isn't an issue. It was $29. I almost bypast using the included clear coat for an automotive clear coat but chose to use the one in the kit. 2.5 years later and it is starting to flake. I will be using an automotive clear coat in the future. I will purchase the same Slyvania kit again and not use the clear coat provided.​
