"E5. Some of you may have noticed this move earlier and been scared of it." Yup. For someone who is so good at chess, Danya has an amazing ability to understand what moves are likely to confuse a beginner and to explain them clearly.
@MatsMatsuo4 ай бұрын
as a sort of rule, in sicilians, you really shouldn't be scared of e5 if you can take it with your E pawn and opponent can't retake with a treat. Sometimes e5 can be a response do d5, closing the center, and if you have a knight on f6 that can rotate to d7, like a french structure, than you shou also be fine you just gotta know some ideas of this close pawn structure.. Now if e5 can't be taken, it migth be concerning, especially if you have a knight on f6 that can't go to d7, or if white can't quickly play Ne4 followed by Nd6, or because of greek gift ideas if you already castled, or if you somehow already traded your dark square bishop and white can establish a very annoying blockade /bind on d6... (I'm a taimanov player, and I have thousands of games on this c5 e6 strucutre, from my experience and opening study that's what I can tell you.)

As a 1500 I'm terrified of pawn moves, pawn breaks and such, sometimes to my detriment I go to great lengths to keep my pawn structure intact. So yes I was worried😂😂

Study typical tactics like the Najdorf and Dragon setups, and practice middlegame plans like pushing the queenside pawns. Watch grandmaster games to see common patterns, and solve tactical puzzles to sharpen your response to White's aggressive play. One effective step to improve your Sicilian Defense is to deepen your understanding of typical pawn structures and their associated plans. I really enjoy the 1300-1600 level because you get to find really complex and interesting games because the players are principled enough to have fundementals and solid first 5-10 moves of the openings but since they don't have the theory or inuition of you or a GM they can find simple moves and create interesting/complex games that you can win with ease but still create teaching moments at all levels

Daniel, your explanations and analysis are excellent, you really have the gift of pedagogy to teach. I would like to ask you a double question, hoping not to be awkward: How many games have you lost due to the tunnel effect throughout your career and how could it be avoided?. My point is that sometimes you know you are winning a game by a lot and suddenly you get locked into a few squares on the board and end up losing the game. Do you think it would be worthwhile to make a short video about it?
