When he said that, I said to myself, "agh, the remainder of that day at DD was probably a tense one". I hope I am wrong. No one has a monopoly on knowledge or expertise, and two masters of technical skill should be able to critique each other's work and provide constructive feedback/criticism. In the end, everyone walks away in a better position than before. It would be interesting to know exactly how DD attempted to diagnose or replicate the failures Mike experienced. I hope it was more than running a mag through the weapon without failure and calling it a day...

I am convinced this is the era of fixing things. I have seen non stop issues with everything i have bought in the last 5 years-appliances, cars, guns (all brands but especially my ruger SFAR). Replacement parts even are in short supply and sometimes not up to spec. I think the cost of everything is driving businesses to cut cost and they usually turn to cheaper sub contractors and cut QC. The best solution is to fix things your self

Whole heartedly agree. Several of my last few pistols and rifles have purchased had considerable QC issues from my Colt GCNM 9mm to my Springfield Armory M1A. Seems if your mechanically inclined you can do the work yourself with the proper tools but for those lacking, they feel disenfranchised. For the price of this rifle these mistakes are just unacceptable.

Attn: DD, LMT, Geissele, all "premium brands": I know the modern landscape is highly competitive and margins are falling, but if you keep letting QC slip you will be out of business, especially at your price point. Stuff happens, but at your price point you are supposed to stand behind it and not try to turn everything back around on the customer. For the price of these uppers the feed ramps should be smoother than a baby's bottom, and there is zero excuse for that crooked magwell.

A $2000+ firearm shouldn't have such problems, especially from a company like DD that supposedly markets quality, but I guess that's the world we live in now post 2020. There's going to be a few lemons here and there. However, there were several recent interviews that came up in my feed over the last few months about DD that seemed to exemplify that they are a "Pro 2A" company... seemed like they were trying to push some message rather than provide quality, IMO.

I work at a major gun range and gun shop. I also experienced issues with a DDM 300blkout. PDW. Where my bolt was getting hung up on the magazine feed ramp. I changed uppers and tried different magazines. I changed the bolt catch. I came to the conclusion that the lower has to be out of spec. I sent it to Daniel, explain that I believe it receivers out of spec. They checked, and they message me and guess what lower is out of spec. They replaced it with a new lower receiver but also was not happy with the uneven color in the finish. But I can deal with that. I'm thankful that they have a good warranty and customer service. But for what these cost. You're pretty much getting a basic ar with a famous rail. that costs as much as a Gucci ar with no real product improvements. You'd think you'd be paying for quality materials and excellent qc. I'm glad I didn't have to pay full price for mine.

Your videos are awesome man. I have another issue ive been seeing on DD specific uppers, the charging handle notch specifically, ive seen some instances of this either not being cut correctly (not enough "grip" on the charging handle), as well as completely having metal come off of this enough to cause the cycling of the gun to force the charging handle out of the notch itself. Just something to keep in mind if you are inspecting DD uppers specifically.

Probably not clamped properly in the fixture before it was milled. The _usual_ culprit is chips not being removed before a new part is clamped, but that definetly looks like more than a chips worth of difference. Other than that an offset change, maybe, but that requires operator input _or_ an electronic fault.

I completely understand things aren’t always 100. We aren’t a perfect world or people. No issues here but how the company checks upon returns or warranty and how they handle says a lot. I deal with huge companies and warranty issues on a daily and I would say half or less actually “check” and assess claims from customers vs exchange/refund without getting original item back and figuring out what happened and trying to address issue or visiting application and use situation to get to the bottom of it. Basically good expensive companies should charge more because they are more proactive about issues and that equals money.

I had a Block 2 style m4a1 upper from DD. It was the Brownells version with the SOCOM profile barrel. I ended up selling that upper because it was really overgassed. Overall I prefer BCM. Their guns are still "combat gassed" but not as much as DD. I get good 3 o'clock ejection using carbine springs and a carbine buffer. I had a situation with my 16" BCM where I hadn't shot it in a very long time and then I decided to shoot it again. I slapped a random BCG in it and took it out to the range and suddenly a gun that previously was gassed very well was violently overgassed. I was like wtf. I eventually realized that the BCG I threw in there was an old commercial specc BCG from S&W lol. I put a good old fashioned microbest phosphate milspec bcg in there and it was back to 3 o'clock ejection. Derp.

I’d be a little bit upset personally paying that premium price and having issues like it does. Then to send it back to them to fix it, and them telling me nothing is wrong with it. Thank you for your videos.

My friend just bought the same DD M4 R3 in 14.5. While shooting i also noticed that PMAG Gen3 do not freefall when released (like in my Geiselle, or Wyssen Defense). Also the Milspec Trigger has not a very clean break (i can't confirm if this is normal as my guns have an SSA and ALG ACT Trigger). What a shame. This gun costs about 3100 USD in my Country. They always say that with the premium price you also get premium QC. I'am not sure about that anymore and was very dissapointed.... What a shame i thought my next AR would be a DD RIS2 but i opted to buy an Aero instead. There at least i pay 30% less and seem to get the same chanced of out of spec components. Please also be aware that it is almost impossible to get such things replaced in Europe (especially if you don't want to wait another 6-8 months....)

Last thing DD wants to do is replace the lower with all the FFL nonsense for transfer issues depending on the state you live in. I build all my ARs with Anderson uppers and lowers. They fit and operate perfectly and very cheap.

In a reply to a comment you said that only 50 magwell gauges were ever made, and only Colt, FN and some depot sites (gov facilities) have them. What do you think about trying to get a large company like Brownells to make them on a larger scale (thousands at least) and then trying to get manufacturers to buy them? DD obviously does not have one. But they should. As should BCM, LMT, PSA, etc etc etc!
@SchooloftheAmericanRifle
@SchooloftheAmericanRifle Ай бұрын
I have done that and all of them have fallen short this far. I have not given up, but the precision required to make the gauge is difficult. The U.S. Government paid over $5,000.00 for each one of those gauges when they were new. The companies that couldn't pull it off wanted $750.00 per gauge.

My Daniel Defense is out of spec so the bolt catch wont reach magazine followers. I tried contacting DD when i bought it but was completely ignored as an EU customer. The shop i bought it from ended up extending the hook on the bolt catch for me so it works but that means any aftermarket bolt catch wont work. Can't say i'm happy about that but at least the rest of the rifle has worked flawlessly. I hope i could figure out if the problem is the location of the magwell, the location of the bolt catch or both combined. I did try leaving a review about it on their website but only one got approved and even that one has since been deleted. Seems they only keep overly positive reviews up..

This seems like an easy fix, if a little material is removed and Teflon tape is used to square up the mag.
