0:06 Assuming you could punch with the force of a high-end olympic athlete at around 1000 joules of energy per punch, it'd take around 460 punchs to get the chicken to a safe temperature. If you wanted to do it with one punch however, you'd have to hit the chicken at around 3725 mph or more than 5 and a 1/2 times the speed of sound. Both methods would sadly render the chicken unedible via turning it into a gross boney smoothy in the case of the multiple punchs and a bloody mist in the case of the one punch.

@44R0Ndin5 жыл бұрын
That's like a mach 4 or 5 slap. Literally hypersonic slaps. It won't work, you'll shred the chicken instead of cooking it. Many much slower slaps would work. Need to figure out how hard you can slap the chicken without shredding it, add some safety margin, then repeat until cooked. I think you'd get farther strapping a thawed chicken to a massive array of midrange speakers, and feeding those speakers with a 2 kilohertz sinewave. All about maximizing amplitude and frequency at the same time, that's why you go with midrange speakers and that frequency. Also insulate the chicken because the energy input will be tiny no matter what method you use so long as that method doesn't actually destroy the chicken. The problem is finding an insulation method that blocks heat transfer but not sound transfer, unless you insulate the whole thing speakers and all. But then you run into the problem of it becoming an electrical heater because you're also cooking the chicken with the heat of the coil driving the speakers.

Kelly Badger, to answer Jello’s question on how hard would you have to punch a chicken to turn it into a cooked chicken, is going to be in terms of speed. To turn a chicken, who on average have a temperature of 25°C (or 77°F) into a cooked chicken or 75 °C (or 167 °F) would take a single punch going at 368 m/s or approximately 825mph. The math is in the reply if anyone wants to check it. (I do not claim to have done the math but I had done it separately and checked myself before looking around. There are also different formulas to solve said equation)
@fusedfire87745 жыл бұрын
My math is simple, Assuming that the chicken needs to reach 75C to be considered cooked, starting at 25C. According to the internet, the specific heat capacity of a chicken is 2.72 kJ/kg C, meaning that for a 1.5kg chicken, a total of 204kJ of energy is needed. Assuming that all of the kinetic energy is transferred into heat, and that the effective mass of your hand (plus a bit of arm) is 3kg, using E=1/2 m V2 gives a velocity of 368m/s. In freedom units, that’s 825mph. Feel free to check my math. The link to this math is www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/shittyaskscience/comments/9ocuhk/if_kinetic_energy_is_converted_to_thermal_energy/

Ummm.... so the intro actually made me think about it and I was interested. So doing some rough math in my head and then double checked I have calculated how fast you would need to punch a chicken to cook it. Average mass of human male arm is 8 pounds Chicken was thawed previously (didn't really want to calculate it) Average time to cook a whole chicken to be relatively even and complete is 4 hours it takes .4kWh for per hour so thats 1.6kWh in total 1.6 kWh converted to joules is 5760000J The formula for kinetic energy is KE=(1/2)mv^2 to solve for velocity we need v alone solving for v gives us v=±((√2 * √KE)/(√m)) Plunging in our givens we get... 1200 meters a seconds or 2684.324 miles per hour THATS FASTER THAN THE FASTEST PLANE EVER BUILT! (the sr-71 approx 2193mph) I didn't want to calculate how much impact the whole weight of the human body has on the arm. So it was left out. It could be a lot more or a little. Its basically a arm shooting through space and hitting a chicken. I put way too much time into this my 5 minutes wasted :( oh well... ;) (EDIT: I would like to state that I do not believe that this is totally accurate. It was rushed and I was tired and wanted to go to bed so I forgot to mention some things so now I will. It is not accurate because of the fact that this calculation only takes into account that it converts 100% kinetic energy to thermal. Now this would not happen in real life and the conversion is probably less than 1%, and that because the kinetic energy is transferred into the chicken as energy of motion, it would (like some have stated) fly apart. It also does not consider the effect of gravity of the Earth, the entire weight of the human body behind a punch, the density of a chicken, the density of a human, the surface area of the punch, atmospheric drag, and whole bunch of other things that I thought of when I woke up in the night to get some water. I like to be precise and take my time with things. I did not calculate it with all of these other variables because I have yet to teach myself some more basic calculus as I am only in the 10th grade taking HON ALG II. When I do teach myself how to do these things I will calculate it and come back. So in conclusion if you were asked this question and the answer would give you a trillion dollars I wouldnt use my answer. :( sorry for not including this sooner got side tracked with ADHD brain wanting to watch 3blue1brown)

0:00 One guy did actually test a similar principle by making a machine that slaps meat repeatedly, and he did successfully cook a chicken and a steak. The steak sucked and I don't think he tried the chicken, but they were cooked. I don't know how hard a single punch would have to be, though.
