Congrats Matt. Would love to see you guys do a video on multipurpose rod setups. This would be great for kayak and bank fisherman. What rod/reel/line combo can be cross utilized for techniques X, Y (and maybe Z). Especially when it comes to being able to use the same line (if not going braid to various leaders). I can normally take 5 rods comfortably on my kayak and want to optimize the amount of techniques I can switch to. I'm just a weekend a warrior and not always up to date on lake conditions and patterns so want to be flexible on the water.

Congrats on the new addition to the family! Matt, I've fished my entire life (30+ years) and never have I had a complete understanding of how actions work and the role they play. This video blew my mind needless to say and I thank you for always putting solid content out there. Only negative (to the bank account) from this video is now I need more rods! I have followed both you and Tim for almost 10 years and appreciate all you guys do, again thank you!

Matt it's great to see you again. Beautiful picture of the kids. Tim was awesome as usual. Now that the pleasantries are done, you really hit it out of the water (pun intended) with this video. I am just an amateur fisherman and you just enlightened me with a ton of knowledge. I have never had anyone explain to me the different types of rods and how they are used with certain type of lures. I am not stuck with one brand of rod and I am finally able to get rods that are somewhat over the $100 range. I will be watching this over again a couple of more times to make sure what I am wanting. By then I may have other questions and ask what type of rod I should be looking to use. Thanks again. You guys are awesome and I look forward to your next video.

Matt, first congratulations on the new daughter. You have three beautiful girls. Second, folks REALLY need to take the rod deflection to heart. Out of EVERYTHING I've learned from Tacticalbassin, that's the single thing that has had the most impact on my ability. I fish at night a lot and I've found that if you're really in tune with the feel of your bait being dragged along, you can detect a bite just by noticing the change in weight. Third, and you kind of hit on this a little bit, something that would be great for a future video is what power rod to use with what size treble hooks. I lost a few monsters last year because I was using a rod with too much power, even though it was moderate fast.

As we’re on the topic of rod labels, I’ll drop some of what I know about Megabass F powers. Not every rod they have is true to the power of the rod, but they are below as listed: F0: Super Ultra Light F1: Ultra Light F1-1/2: Megabass Light F2: Light F2-1/2: Megabass Medium Light F3: Medium Light F3-1/2: Megabass Medium F4: Medium F4-1/2: Megabass Medium Heavy F5: Medium Heavy F5-1/2: Megabass Heavy F6: Heavy F6-1/2: Megabass Ex. Heavy F7: Ex. Heavy F7-1/2: Megabass Super Heavy F8: Super Heavy F10: Extreme Heavy F11: Extreme Heavy + FX: Versatility Heavy FZ: Maximum Heavy Some rods like I said are not really true to the power listed as. The Tequila Baccarac and the Perfect Pitch are both F7 power rods but the TB is significantly more powerful. The Brailist and X-Bites are both F5.5 powers but are not heavy powered rods by any means, with the X-bites being on the light side of a medium heavy. Megabass also gives a little lure recommendation chart that comes with the rods but a lot of the times is completely incorrect. The Madbull is an F5-70X which they said is a deep cranking rod. I would not use it for deep cranking at all. From experience it’s just an all around MH reaction bait rod. I haven’t compared it to a Loomis 845cbr but I would assume they’re fairly similar. If you have any questions about Megabass feel free to drop a comment. I’m a total geek for their stuff and I could probably point you in the right direction.

Great video. Best explanation of rods I’ve come across so far. I’m finding i like moderate fast rods the best. Fishing from the bank I feel it’s the best all around action and then I just pick my power based on what weight lure I’m fishing.
@stoneysdead6892 жыл бұрын
Wow- that's a huge commitment to say you'll help us all find a specific rod in our price range- thanks guys. I'm looking for two rods in the 200-dollar range- a frog rod specifically for the heavy slop, I already have one for lighter cover or open water- and a swimbait rod large enough to throw like 5-6 inch mag drafts, s waver 168s, stuff in that 1-3-ounce range.
@tacticalbassin2 жыл бұрын
Do you have a brand preference? The swimbait rod will be really easy. Those listed baits don't need a dedicated swimbait rod. I actually prefer to throw them on a 7'2" - 7'9" Heavy with a bit slower tip... more like a jig rod than a swimbait rod.

Great video. Exactly correct, when “Expert” fisherman are asked what rod to use for a specific technique, they will insist that you use what they use. Example, people demand that I use a Spinning rod for my Shakey head; guess what, I’ll continue to throw my Shakey head on casting gear…

This is great advice that i most certainly will forget before spring time 😆. Congrats on the new baby 🍼. Hope all is well and the rest of the family stays covid 🆓. I would like to see a follow up video on best line type and strength is best for certain rod types/baits. Its such a hard thing for an amateur to figure out when overwhelmed by all the different rod types, line varieties, knots, and lures on the market. A generic rule of thumb would be an awesome go to chart for someone like me that tries to make things work without an abundance of rods. I try to buy at least one new rod a year to bridge the gap so this would be very helpful.
@dereksullins4841 Жыл бұрын
I'm working on expanding my rod arsenal. Currently I have a 7' 1" medium fast spinning St Croix Victory. This replaced an old Cabela's XML 6' 6" medium fast spinning which the cork finally started coming apart. I also have an old 6' 6" Cabela's XML medium fast casting rod which is still going strong. I plan on using this rod for jerk baits and similar style baits. I have thought about adding the St. Croix Victory 7' 3" medium heavy fast (the marshal) or 7' 1" medium heavy fast (the grunt). I like catching fish with spinner bait, buzz bait, and lipless crank bait. I'm thinking of adding chatter bait and swim jigs. Mainly looking for a do all rod for now. I'm probably going to stay in the St. Croix Victory line. After watching several of y'alls videos and purchasing the St. Croix Finesse spinning rod, I have added drop shot and ned rigs to my arsenal.
