This is part 5 in the series explaining the scientific principles of sine wave motion. In this video I show how the shape of the sine wave motion curve varies with different stances, when a technique is performed on the spot with the same stance.
There will be many more videos in this series of sine wave motion. Topics will include: How to perform correct sine wave, how it helps Taekwon-Do techniques be more aesthetic, efficient and powerful.

Disclaimer :
I recognise Grand Master General Choi Hong Hi as the true authority on Taekwon-Do. The information in my videos is based on my interpretation of Taekwon-Do as taught to me by the Founder General Choi Hong Hi and as referred to in his book ‘TAEKWON-DO’ (5th Edition 1999) Published by ITF and printed in Canada.
Other Taekwon-Do Masters and Grand Masters may have a different interpretation of Taekwon-Do theory and practice, so if you are a Taekwon-Do student, it is important to check with your instructor if you are not sure about which interpretation you should be following.

A question. If sine wave is so useful why do we not see it in destruction competition or indeed sparring?

Saying something is natural or harmonic doesn't explain why it's an effective fighting method. Saying "well grandmaster x said" is not an argument. All I see is an unnecessary telegraph and unnecessary movement up and down (especially when standing still). It's not efficient. The fastest way from a to b is a straight line. If you're in North Carolina and you wanna go to Oklahoma, you go through Tennessee. You don't go through Detroit. What I think this is is either a) just wanting to look different to karate, like the narrow horse stance, or 2) a misunderstanding when looking at someone struggling to relax and tense at the same time. We see this in wing chun a lot, where at the end of the punch the arm bounces. That's just bad technique. You want to be in control of your body the whole time, and generate force through proper technique. - black belt in wtf and ITF tkd, army vet, wing chun teacher, playboy, philanthropist

D) an emphasis on exhaling in every attack. The inhale is "up", the exhale is "down".

That does sound like fake science.

I don't need to teach fake science. I have degree in physics and I understand the theory of power and movement. This series on sine wave motion is not meant to confuse you with scientific jargon. I have tried to keep it simple for Taekwon-Do students with just a basic knowledge of science. The seroes is not finished. The last few videos (when released) will explain how sine wave motion can help deliver more power in an efficient way.

@@DonatoNardizzi nice series but biomechanics and physics are very different disciplines with some cross over of course. Applying sine wave from physics to body movement seems to have created a very inefficient, slow and telegraphing gait transfer. Sometimes it’s best to disregard things from the past which do not serve us anymore. This concept (more like dogma) only serves to confuse and limit efficient movement for students. Instead, focusing on the sinking element at the end of the technique would surely be wiser. It would mean losing some of the defining features that taekwondo feels it needs to differentiate itself but would improve the system.
