I believe it is this way in the pattern, largely because it demonstrates the ability to do the kick from different angles, and requires the turning of the hips which is the essential requirement to make the kick work. Best advice is always to break it down, and leave the kick portion to the last minute to get the rest of the mechanics right Thanks for watching!

I learned my tornado kick from you years ago and now I'm going to learn your flying side-kick. Your tutorials are one of the best out there! 👍

I'm 52 years old. Just learning this pattern. At my age injuries take FOREVER to repair them selves. I've seen more injuries in people 1/4 of my age; trying to learn this kick! Thank you, thank you, thank you! for breaking this kick down!

Your comment about being told to remove your videos by the TAGB Committee doesn't surprise me. I got told to stop giving free advice on Internet forums. I was like, "Lolwhut? See you later!" Good on you for going independent.

Yes exactly! I'm certainly not alone.. They are clearly afraid that students will find out that many people believe they wanted to monopolise Taekwondo by splitting from the Generals original teachings and turn it into a commercial enterprise.. whoops.. Their comments included, "We don't want Toi Gye to be on KZbin" Erm. yea... Stop presses *calls Google* ... Martial arts should be free of politics and commerce. No - that doesn't mean people can't make money from it, but it certainly means it shouldn't be governed or restricted by it! Glad to know you understand! Thanks for your comments :)

Thank you so much for posting this! My 13 yr old is testing for his BB in late Aug. This particular kick has been a struggle to get it correctly. I believe your breaking it down as you have, it will help him to understand how to complete this. Thank you for this!

That's great! The whole idea behind the channel was to do just this - help students master difficult techniques that they would otherwise have very little dedicated instruction on during classes - a shame my ex club didn't see it that way!!

Great explanation of a great technique. As an orange-belt Tang Soo Do student I won silver last weekend on breaktest with this particular jump-kick (edan yup chagi) . This video helped me accomplish that, thank you for that :)

Correct! Although I put 'Tae kwon do' in the title, I don't mean to say that it originated from the art, because of course thats not true. It was initially used (as far as historians can tell) in the 17thC against Mongolian (or similar) horses Thanks for watching!

I can do flying side kick lifting my right knee easily(See channel icon) and have always struggled to perform the kick 'off the ground' as you do here when taking off with my left knee in Choong Moo. Is there any reason why this kick must be performed this way in the pattern? A fantastic explanaition of this kick which I'm sure is going to help. Keep up the good work. These are getting better and better.

How do you mean? I watch for body movement, by watching between shoulders and hips you can see any upcoming body movements before they happen..

Horse mounted attackers you say?!

yup .... Google mongolian horses.. because that's what it was used against... If someone can't dismount someone riding a mongolian horse, they need some practice ;-)
