Every now and then I keep wondering what my life would have been like if I had started when I was 13.

I am 41 and going for a Blue belt in a week. (Practising daily and your videos are super helpful) Taekwondo brought me so much. Even if it is completely unrelated, I feel it has helped me cope with the loss of both of my parents to cancer, one after the other in a span of 2 years. I have started in one traditional school with a Korean 6th Dan, after Covid I moved to a suburb and found a school near home from a Quebecois 5th Dan. Both schools completely different energy. The traditional Korean concentrated more on mental balance and forms. The French Canadian master concentrates more on sparring, techniques and self defence. All in all, I am so grateful for taekwondo and my masters. It can never be understated how much it helps the mind and body.

That is so interesting, to hear how you got into Taekwondo and how much you had to deal with in life. Very inspirational. Thank you, for sharing a part of your life and the photos as well. Funny, seeing you wearing a white belt, just shows we all have to start somewhere and work our way up. Would love to see a series of videos of you, doing all the patterns of the different color belts. Thank you again and even if you don't want to admit, there's always been a little Cobra Kai in you. 😜

Nearly brought a tear to my eye. I love your humor, so it's almost surreal hearing you being so serious. Much love!

I have a question for Topic Tuesday! I just recently watched the "Don't Do Taekwondo in Korea" video by MiKole, a Taekwondo practicioner and martial arts enthusiast. If you haven't watched it, he gives a few reasons to not practice TKD in its home country, the primary ones being that dojangs are mostly daycares and that the real trainning is very light, sparring is very light, etc. Why do you think this is the case? Why is TKD more serious (relatively speaking) in the States than in SK? Also, one more question. Sorry if this has been asked already, I'm a new viewer. Why is WTF more prominent than ITF TKD?

i am doing Kaekwondo a few months ago. how long does Talke to advance in the belts?
@tkdguide

It depends on a variety of factors so it’s hard to say. In our system, someone can generally get a black belt after about four years with consistent attendance.
