After training consistently in TKD for over 17 years now I have to agree with you that my ability to physically dominate someone is very limited. But how it has strengthened my mind, body and situational awareness is monumental! I believe early on learning those break holds, strikes & optimal body targets gave me an overall greater confidence level. Do you feel that having this foundation can keep you calmer in a confrontational situation, especially if encountering a possible violent crime?
@tkdguide2 күн бұрын
@@cindypearson6324 thank you for the comment. I do think those things still put you far ahead of where you would be if you didn’t study martial arts. It certainly has some value. In fact, those break holds are the only part of my training I have ever used in real life.

Thank you sir! I looooove topic Tuesdays. I have a follow up question about sparring endurance. When doing drills on a heavy bag should I be in full sparring gear to mimic actual sparring? I feel like I do sooo much better when I control spar (without gear) endurance wise. But I do need to get better with gear. Please advise.

Hello, it looks as if my last weeks comment was overlooked, i've reposted it over here to add some ideas for next weeks epiosde :) Couldn't agree more with your latest topic tuesday !, maby im wrong, but I think wrestling is known more for pin as jiu jitsu is for submission in the eyes of newbies for those martial arts which spikes the enrolement.. thanks for letting us know a time for the next stream, we can prepare for topic tuesday !! coffee and for some loyal viewers maby even a clean pressed dobok ?!!?! all jokes aside if you would like to add to next weeks, I always wondered the purpose of the "international referee" certificate the WT offers.. at what level are these a requirement? or do they even still issue them? also I'm sure accidents are minimal in a professional training environment although is first aid training part of most WT curriculums? or perhaps not being a peramedic adds liability issues? how does that work with running a dojang? have a good week sir

Paul, how would you mix taekwondo with boxing? Would you suggest looking at and incorporating kickboxing combo's or just try to place kicks and punches according to one's logic?
@stevekarp33256 күн бұрын
Hello Master Paul: it's been great to see your channel evolving, growing and trying new approaches and formats. My question for you is about pacing in sparring. My adult class is mixed belts and ages and we recently started light sparring with classmates to "pressure test" techniques and concepts from class. I'm really enjoying this: putting together blocks, strikes and kicks and using them IRL; but I'm having trouble with pacing my energy. I tend to go all "fists of fury" for the first opponent; but then I'm sucking wind and on the back foot when we have longer bouts or when we rotate partners and face other classmates who are more experienced or more advanced. Are there strategies to sparring in terms of good use of one's energy and attacks/defenses...or is this a case of needing to work on cardio a whole lot more? For context: I'm a high blue belt, 55 years old, fairly fit; been going to tkd classes 2x a week for about a year and a half, and I exercise 6-7 days a week. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Great tips, but there are 2 problems i’m facing, especially about the spin. 1: I cant spin on the ball of my foot, because its super slow and it hurts 2: when i pivot and turn my feet backwards, i find it hard to turn back in front and aim my knee towards the target. What should I do?

Thanks for the great information! I am 26 and interested in taekwondo. I trained as a child for 2 years. Am I too old to come back and be a good taekwondo player?
To my understanding it didn't exist before the 50's

You’re right sir, BJJ is certainly hot and popular now due to its ‘colour and flash’. So, it’s certainly very attractive now. Just compare their kimonos and rashguards to traditional gis and doboks and wrestling tights, you know which will win the youths and hippies. Plus with the massive number of celebrities joining and promoting BJJ, just like tattoos, again the youths and hippies will be sucked in.

Question: Why aren’t there many U50 or even U60 divisions for kyorugi tournaments or competitions? You think for safety reasons or lack of participants? Or both? Should such divisions even be encouraged? Thank you!

Thanks for answering my question sir . As far as this video's BJJ topic goes , my take is if I had to choose between TKD and BJJ ,I'd choose both and give them equal weightage ,just like your own perspective ,thereby ,upholding the ideals of martial arts and inculcating the discipline that TKD gives along with precise striking ability and trying to up my ground and grapple game with BJJ simultaneously.

Question for next Topic Tuesday: 1) From your experience, what is the primary reason students enroll in your taekwondo program? 2) What is the primary reason students drop out or leave before advancing through their belt system? 3) What is the best strategy for adding new students to your school?
