Taemin’s been active as a soloist since 2014 and his discography is really vast and absolutely amazing. He said in an interview that becoming a solo artist was his dream since childhood. He started dancing fascinated with MJ and other great solo artists who were able to combine fantastic singing with exceptional dancing. Only after he joined SM it became apparent to him that he’s gonna debut in a group since SM didn’t really debut solo artists back then (apart from BoA). So 6 years after his debut with SHINee, when he was offered the opportunity to release a solo album (as a first member of an active group and only at 21 years old) it was like a dream come true for him! He surely grabbed this chance and showed everyone (even those who didn’t believe in him) what he’s really capable of. The rest is history. He became an icon and absolute blueprint when it comes to solo acts in K-pop. I can’t wait for his comeback, cause for me K-pop is really dull without The Legendary Male Soloist (one of his many titles/nicknames given by the industry).

@@jazmorrison9030 The thing is Taemin is Taemin style. Over the years he created his very own, distinct style, so unique only to him. Yes, there’s obvious MJ inspiration here and there in his music and dancing, but he has so much more to offer. I know people love comparing him to MJ - nothing wrong with that, especially that it’s a huge compliment - but I genuinely think Taemin is far beyond that comparison now. In other words it’s a huge simplification to call him Korean Michael Jackson, cause he’s his own artistic persona, with very distinct identity.

All SHINee members have solo discography. Taemin was the first going solo in 2014, followed by Jonghyun (first artist in SM having self-written albums) in 2015 and they were the most prolific. Onew and Key have 2 solo EP each. Minho I think has only solo tracks but no EP yet.

Taemin is truly an artist to admire. He debuted very young with SHINee, he said himself that it was too early for him. He originally had barely any lines in songs and was criticized for being “tone deaf”. In the face of all the criticism, he hunkered down and spent all his time practicing, improving his live vocals while continuing to perfect his craft, dancing. Over the years he continued to grow and improve until SM chose him to debut solo. Once he had his own creative identity, he ran with it, and you’ll notice Taemin deals a lot with duality in his music. There is Taemin the person, then Taemin the idol, and though he tries to separate the two there will always be some of himself if the music and persona he creates when in the studio and on stage. His success was born from the countless hours he spent (and continues to spend) working and practicing and refining his work. He was my bias in 2008 and watching him grow and mature over the years into the idol’s idol he is now has been so inspiring. We’re not prepared for what he has in store for us once he finishes his military service. Thanks for the react, and please support him and SHINee (and Super M) in the future! 🙏🏻
