Dear Taetro, Your earlier videos in this series taught me things I never learned, because I studied cello and didn't really learn chords! But what really caught me with your last two videos was how well you taught things I already knew. Or to put it differently: how much I learned about a subject I already knew. In addition to being a cellist, I was a teacher for quite some time. And I can tell you what a difference a good teacher makes. You are an EXCELLENT teacher, and I really appreciate your approach. I can tell the work you put into your lessons. You make it look effortless, you make it feel easy to learn, and that takes hard work. Bravo!

Can't wait to watch this when I get home! Could you possibly do a melody tutorial next? I personally struggle making a good melody after making a chord progression.

even though this is an older vid, i still really enjoy going over the basics because of how simple you make it. i've been a musician for almost 20 years and you still somehow made it fun to go over the "the not so fun stuff" absolutely going to keep coming back. dope water paintings too, I dig em.

If you did another video about rhythm but more about drums and explained polyrhythms and and polymeter and how to build more interesting drum loops that would be really helpful. The video was great for getting an understanding of how beats and bars are broken down and how they can fit, but i would like to have a better understanding of how different elements of drums can interact and how they relate to each other and if there are any tools or conventions that can elevate the beats. If that makes sense lol. Hard to find a good comprehensive video about rhythm, andrew huang has a few but they are really hard to follow.

Excellent stuff thanks! Would love to have a breakdown of all the components of a drum kit in a beat-production context. When to use kick, snare,open hat, closed hat, rimshot - for non-drummers…😏

Awesome video, I only have a question.. at 23:46 you mention that those are 1/8th notes, but with the 1/16th grid on, they look to me like 1/16th notes, especially since they're shortened. Can you please help me understand what I'm missing? Thank you!
@Taetro Жыл бұрын
ah yes - I see what you mean. Ignore how they look on the grid for a moment and listen to the rhythm - "1 AND 2 AND 3 AND 4 AND..." etc. That is an 1/8th note rhythm. Now back to the visuals, you're right, they are technically 1/16th in length, but we are talking about the actual rhythm here which is a 1/8th rhythm. The length of the note vs. the rhythm they are actually playing. Usually we are referring to the rhythm.

hey! thanx for your videos. i'm just curious why you played A C# F# chord in the key of Dmajor on 22:07? i see this notes are in the scale, but it doesn't look like a triad
@Taetro10 ай бұрын
good question! You're right that it doesn't look like a typical triad, but it is! Triads can be in their normal root position or they can be inverted. In the case of A C# F# - if we re arrange the notes to F# A C# - you may better recognize it as F#m Inversions can result in a different sound and often you'll see keyboard players use different types of inversions in playing a chord progression for smoother transitions between chords. I can go from F#m to Amaj by only changing one note (with this inversion): A C# F# ---> A C# E

Dont call it a bar. Call in a measure. 4 beats per measure. If they ever pick up sheet music they will be lost.
@Taetro3 жыл бұрын
(they won't)
@XffugoMxxn3 жыл бұрын
One bar is a measurement of 4 beats per measure in 4/4 time! In any if not all DAWS, it measures the phrases in bars! So it would be more confusing to teach his audience to call it a measure when majority of his audience use DAWS. & No where in a DAW will you see the word "measure" when referring to a phrase of one or more bar(s).
@zmanpianoman3 жыл бұрын
Yea, sorry. I'm speaking from a classicly trained backround. Bars are not new to me but that's how I was taught many years ago when learning to play the piano with sheet music. Keep up the good work. I will adapt to your teaching. Time for an old dog to learn new tricks.
