Its an experimental fishing session where Graeme heads off with some leftover sea baits he has from a shore fishing trip..But will anything in freshwater eat it ??....Its Ragworm and Squid,both prime Saltwater baits and one in particular seems hugely successful in freshwater,particularly when floatfished...Why is that ??...The taste of the salt ?? Or just a different texture ??...Who cares when your rod is bent double and fish slides into the net...Sit back and enjoy...Its another episode where Graeme likes to try something outside of the "normal" fishing box...As the saying goes..If it ain't broke...don't mend it...ENJOY.

Squid and prawns are my go-to catch-anything baits. Bread and worms (garden or beach, both work well) are close behind. A big selling point for squid, apart from it's cost, is it's very durable and hard to get off the hook for a lot of fish. When we go whiting fishing we often use worms and prawns to find the fish then switch to squid and catch a feed, rather than use all of our prawns and worms in a short hot streak.

It's interesting to see different baits and additives being used. A very enjoyable video as always. Talking of otters. I was rudely disturbed by one on a Thames backwater, a couple of weeks ago. I had been wondering what the high pitched squeek sound was, when it suddenly popped up about 6ft in front of me. We were both startled and it splashed me with its tail as it dived under again. I was amazed how big it was. I know they're a nuisance on fisheries, but it was amazing to see one in the wild.

I use Japanese developed squid and octopus extract that is supposed to trigger a feeding response. It was made to artificially add weight to koi carp by getting them to eat more than usual. It's been around donkeys and is definitely a trusted carp attractant so there should be no reason squid wouldn't work.

Years ago fishing shops sold a basic bite indicator. A spring clip attached to the butt section of the rod, and a balsa arm hung from it. At the end was a small rod ring that could be opened. A bite saw the arm lift, or you could tension the line to make a drop back indicator. Mine disappeared years ago, but your detergent bottle top reminded me of the days before buzzers and bobbins.

@@spring899 There are still one or two carpers using monkeys and glass rods for nostalgia value. All that matters is you can see a bite developing. Way back they used to grease a section of line and watch the loops for movement. I prefer foil to detergent lids because tops can jam the rings, and are hard to unclip while playing a fish. What I don't understand is £1000 sets of bite alarms to detect line movement, but modern angling reinvents the wheel for commercial purposes.

@DjDolHaus86
@DjDolHaus86 2 жыл бұрын
