Exploring the streets of Baguio led me to an amazing street-side treat-a comforting bowl of bilo-bilo and crispy, golden turon! 🍌🥄 The perfect mix of warmth and sweetness, this is truly a must-try when visiting the city of pines! 🌲✨

HI, KURT! The simplicity of Creamy Bilo-Bilo allows the natural flavors to shine through without being overshadowed by complex ingredients or elaborate presentations. The beauty of this dessert lies not only in its comforting taste but also in its uncomplicated preparation process, ingredients are simmered together until they meld into a harmonious dessert that wraps you up in warmth from the inside out, perfect for those days when you just need a little comfort food. Hi, KURT! Turon is the quintessential and most favorite "merienda" (snacks) among Filipinos which are commonly sold by local street vendors and usually available during afternoon. Reminiscing fond memories of childhood when every bite would take you to a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Those treats weren't just snacks, they were a slice of pure childhood joy! @@antoinette1775 Thank you for your kind words. In a world where challenges and struggles are part of everyday life, a kind word or a thoughtful comment can mean so much to someone. Imagine how much brighter someone's day could be with a simple compliment or a word of encouragement. Maybe it's recognizing someone's hard work, expressing gratitude for a kind gesture, or simply acknowledging someone's effort or kindness. Positive comments, even the smallest ones, can build connections and create an atmosphere of warmth and goodwill. Compliment someone's effort, encourage them in their journey, or just let them know you appreciate them. These little moments of kindness can have a ripple effect, creating an environment where everyone feels supported and valued.

One food pairing that we found perfect for Baguio’s chilly climate is a warm bowl of sopas (Filipino creamy chicken soup) accompanied by fish balls or kikiam (mixture of ground meat or seafood wrapped in beancurd skin). The warm and hearty sopas, with its comforting blend of chicken, vegetables, and creamy broth, is a treat for the soul, providing just the right amount of warmth for Baguio’s cold, crisp, foggy mornings or evenings. The soft, savory texture of the soup contrasts wonderfully with the crispy, flavorful fish balls or kikiam, which are often served with a sweet, spicy dipping sauce. These street food snacks complement the warmth of the soup and create a satisfying, cozy experience.

We truly enjoy Turon with Langka. There’s something about this Filipino treat that brings a sense of comfort and nostalgia. The combination of the crispy, golden wrapper with the sweet and fragrant langka filling is simply irresistible. Every bite is a delightful mix of textures, the crunch of the wrapper paired with the soft, juicy sweetness of the langka. It’s a treat that never fails to bring a smile with every bite, whether we’re having it as a snack or enjoying it as a dessert during special occasions. It also brings back memories of family gatherings, where we’d enjoy this treat together, making it even more meaningful. 😋😋

Hi, KURT! We hope you're enjoying your time in the chilly streets of Baguio! One of the best ways to truly experience the city's charm is by indulging in its delicious street food, and we highly recommend trying two local favorites: bilo-bilo and turon. Bilo-Bilo, with its warm, sweet, and comforting mix of coconut milk, sticky rice balls, jackfruit, taro, sweet potato, plantain and tapioca - is perfect for those cool and crisp Baguio weather. It’s not only a treat for the taste buds, but also a delightful way to feel the warmth as the cool mountain air surrounds you. On the other hand, don’t miss out on turon - a crispy, caramelized snack made with banana and sugar, wrapped in a thin spring roll wrapper. The combination of crunchy sweetness and the subtle warmth is a must-try as you stroll through the vibrant streets. The chilly weather paired with these sweet treats will surely make your Baguio experience even more memorable. Keep exploring, and enjoy every delicious bite! 😊😊 Your avid twin viewers from Illinois, Josephine and Jocelyn

Wow! Bilo-bilo and turon have been my go-to snacks since childhood. We occasionally cooked bilo-bilo, but saba bananas were a staple in our daily diet thanks to our many banana plants. I never added sugar to my turon because our bananas were naturally sweet. And of course, adding jackfruit made it even more delightful, but it was delicious on its own too.

Magandang araw ng Huwebes, @TagalogKurt!. You don't play a little part in bringing Filipino cuisine and Filipino culture to the world, you play a MAJOR part in bringing awareness to our foods. Filipino fusion, here we go!! Pero, yung ginataan naman ni Tatay Larry ay hindi bilo-bilo ang tawag. Ginataang halo-halo yon, sa pagkakatanda ko, kasi may kamote (sweet potato), munggo, at sago (tapioca pearl). Bilo-bilo is another ingredient made of sticky rice flour. This type of interaction with the locals further endears you to all Filipinos. Keep at it. Thanks again, and enjoy your visit to Baguio.

Ginataang bilo-bilo (Rice Balls in Coconut Milk) is a Filipino traditional meryenda that I call a "labor of love" dessert. We gather most ingredients from our backyard and farm, bringing the family together to harvest, prepare, and cook while sharing stories. Our version includes glutinous rice balls, coconut milk, taro, purple yam, sweet potato, saba banana, tapioca pearls, pandan leaves, and plenty of jackfruit. That's what I remember from my childhood. While some enjoy it hot, I prefer it chilled, just like eating soft ice cream.😋

"Bilo-bilo" is a term that comes from the Filipino word "bilog," meaning "round" or "circle," which perfectly describes the shape of these delightful rice balls. "Bilo" refers to anything coiled, curled, or rolled into a circular or spiral form. We call it ginataang bilo-bilo, ginataang halo-halo, or paradusdos in Tagalog in our town.

Maybe eating food with coconut milk, milk, chili, and pineapple juice may not be a good idea. The acid from the pineapple can react with the other ingredients, potentially causing stomach discomfort. Sometimes, it's not only due to poor hygiene or lack of tolerance that people experience stomach problems, but rather the combination of foods that can irritate the stomach. The thick purple goo you ate is called "Ginataang Bilo Bilo". It is made by boiling and simmering coconut milk and sugar together with sliced sweet potatoes, plantains (bananas), and tapioca pearls, sometimes you might see some jackfruit strips. You would simmer that until it thickens like that consistency you have there. Delicious.

Hi, KURT! We’ve been thinking about something sweet and fun, and we can’t help but imagine how awesome it would be to share some Turon and Bilo-Bilo with you, Kurt and all of your subscribers, especially Bernadeth! There’s something special about enjoying these delicious treats together, the crispy sweetness of the Turon and the creamy goodness of the Bilo-Bilo. It just sounds perfect, especially when shared with such great company. Kurt, of course, it would be amazing to have you there, leading the way with your bubbly personality and positive energy. And to all of your subscribers, it would be so much fun to get together and enjoy these treats while connecting with all of you! We would love to make this happen sometime in the future and we know it would be an unforgettable experience for all of us.

HI, KURT! Please make sure to add the BAGUIO NIGHT MARKET to your itinerary! It is located along Harrison Road, Baguio, about 6-minute walk from Burnham Park. This market is a paradise for bargain hunters and anyone looking to immerse themselves in local culture. From 9 PM to 2 AM, the street transforms into a vibrant marketplace filled with food stalls, and has a wide array of goods. From thrift stores and handcrafted souvenirs and household items, all at incredibly low and bargain prices. There’s a food stall where you can create your own noodle soup with a choice of Batchoy, Mami noodles with chicken, beef or pork, quail eggs, cabbage and chicken balls - all for an amazing price of 50 pesos!

@tagalogkurt, one food pairing that we found perfect for Baguio’s chilly climate is a warm bowl of sopas (Filipino creamy chicken soup) accompanied by fish balls or kikiam (mixture of ground meat or seafood wrapped in beancurd skin).

GUYS ANO BA TALAGA ANG BILO-BILO?
@KrisTin-0411
@KrisTin-0411 19 сағат бұрын
Bilo-bilo is a Filipino dessert made of small glutinous balls (sweet sticky rice flour rounded up by adding water) in coconut milk and sugar. Then jackfruit, saba bananas, sweet potatoes, taro, and tapioca pearls or sago (regular and mini size pearls) are added. Bilo-bilo's origin is in Luzon. There are different recipe versions depending on what region in the Philippines it is from. Some recipes call for young coconut meat and some call for adding pandan leaves. This is usually and traditionally eaten hot while others prefer eating them cold after refrigeration.
