Very nice job... very nice! You used common sense in your choices and modifications. It is refreshing to hear from someone who understands "knives" without the silly notion of high cost is needed for high quality. I really enjoyed this and will check out more vids.

+cyclist01222 Thank you for such kind words, my friend! I really appreciate that! Being that I have a family and kids and ex-wives to feed (LOL), the last thing any of them want to hear is that I spent serious money on ANYTHING to do with going into the woods. I am as common-man as they come so I have spent most of my life making due with what I have and what I can afford. That being said, these knives are examples of very high value for very little money! Thank you for recognizing that! I appreciate your support, my much and hope you enjoy the videos! When it comes to youtube and making videos, I believe in being myself, being honest and being nice! -Dave

I can relate to everything you said about teh Condor knife...I had the same problems with mine... As for your Mora picks...yeah...the Companion is probably the most practical model...rubber handle and a nice blade. I had the Classic No2 and liked it. Now you are really making my mind up about getting a Classic No1. I think I would like it more as well... Thansk for making the video. I enjoyed it Have a great day!

SpartanJohns You know, Denis, I really want to love Condor knives. They have very nice designs. I use them over and over and over just to make sure it's not me, but the 1075 steel just doesn't do it for me. I have been using my bushlore lately, because I want to believe (lol), but the edges of the Condors are kind of funny. My Woodlaw doesn't take, nor hold an edge as well as I like and my bushlore has had micro chipping problems in the past. I've cleaned them both up and am going to give them another run. I like the designs and the way they feel in the hand so much. From your videos that I have watched about your Mora classic 2 and what you have said about it, I really think you would like the Classic No1 very, very much! The smaller size makes all the difference in the world! I did not think I would like it better, but I haven't used my No2 since getting the No1. It's just that much more easy to control with the smaller handle and the smaller blade actually makes fine carving an absolute pleasure! Thank you for the tag, my good friend! It was good to think about this tag and take a mental inventory of my knives to come up with exactly what I like best and why. I am glad you enjoyed it, Denis! I hope to talk with you again soon and I hope everything is going well! Looks like your hand is coming around nicely! -Dave

Hey Dave, I hear ya about the first fixed blade love. I just had folders for years, my fav being an Eka Swede 8. I've only recently gotten more interested in bushcraft and bought a £6 Hultafors Heavy Duty or GrovKniv, I believe it's called, just to try out. Not the most attractive knife, but it has a good carbon steel blade and comfortable handle. It comres with a scandi grind with a secondary bevel, which I've removed and further refined the edge, and squared off the unfinished spine like you showed us. I use this knife daily, just whittling, making curls, shaping wood and cutting notches - just practicing and playing. I've grown to love this inexpensive knife, and have a few more mods in mind just to make it more mine. I'm finding it fun and satisfying learning to get the most out of this knife while improving my skills. Really appreciate your videos, Dave. - Bruce

You make some good points about the knifes you love. While I'm not a bush crafter, when I use one of my Mora's I tend to grab the companion for the rubberized handle. It fits my hand better. But to each there own right? Nice job on the video!

***** Thank you, my friend! I appreciate the kind words! I tend to reach for the Companion a lot, myself for the exact reasons you described. The blade is also the perfect size for most tasks. Not too long, nor too thick of a blade to be counter-productive for most given tasks. Which Mora's do you have, brother? How is work going? The road isn't beating you up too bad, is it? -Dave

Wonderful discussion my friend. Love to hear which toys your currently liking the most. Love your modded classic too. It never occurred to me to put a lanyard hole in mine. I guarantee that will change real soon. I have a feeling the right little bobbly lanyard will balance it out better. I never cared that the classics were a bit blade heavy and would fall out of my hand when I opened it.. Know what I mean? Anyways, always a pleasure to hear from you and I hope that you have a wonderful weekend..

My Rold is a very sharp Flat Grind and of course the Classic #1 is a Scandi Grind, Both knives work wood great and tge Rold is very robust and stronger. I also got my Benchmade Arvensis 119 and defenetly its a keeper, It will give my A-1 a rest and I did get it as a wet and snowy weather knife. Laterz, Go Tribe.

HighCarbonSteel Love Seriously Dave, I got lucky with the handle. I told them I wanted the flared pommel but when they took the high peak off tge pommel to put tge slight curve on my Modde Attitude, They made the handle every bit as comfortable as my Buddies Spyderco Bushcraft Knife, plus I could apply equal pressure on all my fingers when I grip it tight with absolutely no hot spots but a firm grip. Also my hand locks in when I lite chop. Outstanding. I'm as Happy as a Lark with my Modde Attitude. But also with my Outstanding matching Modde Mad Hatter Machete. A Awesome Combo. I don't try to Bragg, But just to share with you. I hope you understand. It's hard to show emotions texting. But I'm serious I'm not bragging.,,.p

Say Heah Dave, Other than not being able to strike a ferro rod as good as the 1095, Do you notice any edge retention between the two ? Thanx in advance, Sorry about the misspell on except and accept, I accept your opinion more.
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 8 жыл бұрын
The steel present no problem with a ferro rod, it's striking a piece of flint that 1075 has limitations with. Good question - I have noticed that 1075 does dull quicker and chips and dings much easier, however, being that they are very easy to sharpen, those "problems" are easy to repair. -Dave

Thank You for your reply, I thought so. Infact I bought the Condor Golok, The design is very poor, Alot of metal and then a small bevel, create alot of wood drag when I baton it. But then in cold weather on hard wood, It Rolled Grrrrrrrr, This is a area of interest for me. I really like the edge retention of the 3V. But it's too hard of a steel to sharpen, especially in the bush, and forget it in a survival situation. But so far my vote is with the Busse INFI, hard enough to hold a great edge, Stain resistant and easier to sharpen. Infact on some Afternoon Delights I like a O1, it does borderline my criteria. Again Thanx a Google, Dave.
@paulie4x1
@paulie4x1 8 жыл бұрын
Say Heah Dave, If you go to Google + (plus) search Paulie 4x the White Handle is a modified Battle Horse Attitude you can see how it comes at Battle Horse. I specifically bought it to team up with my Smaller (10 X 7m/m) M-43 Himalayan Imports White Handle Khukuris, I would use this 2Knife carry when I Scout a Area Out and I usually wouldn't take another chopper but I would assume a Folding Saw, My go to is my Wicked Tough Saw or I could take my 10" Corona or Laplander. A canteen and a Necessities Pouch, on my Military Pistol Belt. I would also have a Haversack for my other C's. But when the Brambles get really thick, I like adding a Long Knife EI. Rodent Rucki or my Ka-Bar Johnson Adventure Parangatang. Then I could carry my Potbelly as a One Tool Option with my Top's Mini Scandi 2.5 as my neck knife. It all depends. I call that Grandma's friend heh heh heh

What I like to do on a broomstick handle sgape, I simply flatten the side. You would be surprise how much more control the knife is just by slightly (to preference) flattening the idea of a round handle. I did that with my Blind Horse Bushcrafter which turned out perfect and I wear a large glove, But now it look's like a more expensive Kephart, Oh I also had it polished. And now I just flatten them and I have alot more cintrol.

I enjoyed the descriptions of these knives, their qualities and why you like them. One reason I bought my Morakniv knife from B' which I'm told will arrive this next Tuesday, probably :o) Thanks for your helpful incites. // On another subject, can I ask if you've ever tried an imitation or genuine 'Tracker' knife? I've stumbled across several videos on them and they look quite different but supposedly, they do a lot of different kinds of tasks, but none as well as a specialized knife for a said specific purpose. It's said that they eliminate other kinds of tools and is a WSK for those that want just one tool for outdoors. If you have a friend that has a full size one, the 11 7/8" version, or a imitation 12" version, I'd love to see a review of it from you. Your take on this quite controversial tool. Just an idea. Thank you for this video.

Thank you for watching, my friend! I have never really had an interest in the Tracker knife, personally. I know some people love them but I like a classic knife for knife work and I prefer to carry my axe in combination. I have never had any issues. The only bigger knife I have is an Ontario Kukri, which is excellent, but was purchased for a specific purpose. Hope this helps! -Dave

@rainbowhiker 7 жыл бұрын
Sure does, Dave. It's just a curiosity for me. Big heavy knives have never interested me, particularly either, through the years. But, as I think I mentioned, I did buy a big cheap knife off of ebay with some of those Tracker styling features. I'm going to play with it but already thinking how I can change it from the mass marketed military monstrosity that it is, to something that can actually be used outdoors instead of sitting on someone's mancave wall. Hopefully, I'll get the answers as I alter it's shape and cut off some of the military gobblygook on it. Probably do some videos as I get and change it, over time. Thanks for all your help. My oldest son (visiting from Puerto Rico) is enjoying the video. He wants me to let you know that he also collects knives. Because of his interest in the same things you do I suggested that he subscribe on your channel. He said he plans to soon as he and family gets back to PR. He actually resides in the tallest mountain of PR.

Thank you for watching, raul! No need to apologize, as your english is just fine, my friend! I love the Classic #1 and #2, as well. You are exactly right, there is something about the wooden handles that I also love. I have had many Classics over the years and a couple of them also came loose - all from my own doing, like batoning big pieces of wood..haha! Other than that, the handles have been perfect. Yes'Suree, Denis is a Great Guy, and your doing pretty good doing this video. I do have a few knives. I usually start practicing with the knife I plan using most (my neck knife) in the house and especially my kitchen on up coming trip's. I started practucing with Weidmannsheil Solengin, German Knife, It's Carbon with Stag Handle it's a Boat Belt Knife aka. Canadian Belt Knife anyhow mine has a slender eliptical blade with around a 3 1/2 cutting edge but from handle to tip it's around 4". The design has sort of a choil which I always liked a choil..I bought this knife from a guy on e-bay on seperate times I also bought from him a stainless steel very similar made by the same Weilmannsheil, but this is a slender clip point, the craft me ship is awesome the detail was carefully attended. It even has a area ground away where the thumb is place on one side of tge blade for side and upward use, awesome. But this knife has a integral blade with just slabs of stag pinned by two larger peaned brass pic's the design by the front of the handle and pommel are made out the same steel a very nice knife. It looks similar to a Mora that's why I only have a couple and their sort of vintage. I have a Frost Mora Clipper abd I think a Military issue Mora with a leather metal trimmed sgeath with a hand guard and a meral pommel on a Curly Birch Mora that has a Crown and a large "A" I think on the sgeath. Having other similar knives to Mora Knives I really didn't by any more Mora's. But just recently I pulled the trigger on a 510 and the Classic with the red wood handle in the 3 7/8" ? blade. Oh I also found a deal on the 2000 and the Hatchet a matching set. Buy the way, do you have any understanding what a Bron Steel is, Any INFO would be greatly appreciated. Thanx, and a Happy Easter.

Luck has found me again, I told you about the deal on a combo that included a Mora 2000 and a Mora Hatchet. Today I called to see if I could get the set in the Olive color. The guy said no because Mora sells the knives to them more expensive for the Olive color, But since I bought the Mora 510 at a great price and the Classic # 1 (3.8+") The break down is very close to the Olive color because at my price they don't charge shipment so fir just a few dollars more I was able to buy the Olive Mora 2000 with the Mora Hatchet in the Olive color and that's excactly what I wanted. God is Always Good and Good Always is God.

Nice video but the Classic Mora number 1 is made of laminated steel and does not have the red colored handle. Those Mora classic number 1's are still available but harder to get and will set you back about 100 dollar. Basically all the red wooden handled are number 2's and they do come in different sizes. A lot of people in the bushcraft world are referring to the shorter handled number 2's as a number 1 actually. The older number 2's have a rat tail tang that runs all the way through the handle and the newer ones have a shorter rat tail tang. They also don't use 1095 carbon steel but a carbon steel similar to it. I do like both of the carbon steels btw. The protruding full tang of the condor is also made for hitting the knife on the back driving the point into wood without risk of damaging the handle but they sure can get in the way with other bushcraft tasks. ;).

I'm not trying to be rude, or bragging, but in a honest way my three Fav's are my Busse Son of Badger, my INFI Ratmandu, and my Nuclear Meltdown Fussion Steel Heart, I have another Busse Set that's very hard for me to chose between but right now I picked these, but may change any minute, and also I have another set with my Swamp Rat Knives which I also love, my Rodent 4, Rodent 5, and Rodent 7, again I have a equal other set I love it too, then my Bark River's and my Becker's and O.K.C.'s. Say Heah Dave. I got a reason to buy the Mora Kansbol and theEldris. I don't mind using my Mora 2000 that really matches very nice with my Fox Bishcraft Parang,Well the colors match to each other and actually compliment each other. But I forgot about the sleeper I have. I have a Vintage Mora First, I don't know the difference between the Companionand the Clipped, But the blade is sort of thicker. But the color also matches my Bushcraft Parang. Actually, Idont have to rush getting the Kansbol and Eldris, But I'm still going to get them along with the Garberg. But this what ever Clipped and or Companion with the thicker kind of blade, I bought it as a close out. Yeah, I think it might be a MG fromthings I read,Mine is definitely a carbinblade because that's what it says on the blade. It does look like yours, But mine isn't too robbery, Its sort of hard. Anyhow, If you can explain the difference between the Clipped and the Companionand MG means Military Grade right, Thanx.,,.

Buzz Feed asked what words bug you when people use them loosely. Hatchet is one of those four me. The difference between a hatchet and an axe has nothing to do with size. It has to do with configuration. A hatchet has a straight bit, often chisel ground; an axe has a curved bit, rarely chisel ground. A hatchet has a hammer like butt for driving or pulling nails; an axe has a flat butt (or another bit), and should never be used to hammer. A hatchet has a straight, hammer like handle; an axe handle is usually curved, with a fawn's foot on the bottom. Size just doesn't matter. It's configuration

Hi again Dave, I feel guys are embarrassed carrying more tools, even in your video you said, "I will carry my saw OR my hatchet", sure we practice to use natural things to survive, like roots for cordage, break logs against trees or knee's ouch making fire by rubbing two sticks together heh heh heh so we don't have to depend on our gear, I had to think about this, Every body knows the best survival knife is the knife that's on you, this statement I started to focus on, first of all I use to and still enjoy multi carry knives, 3knife carry and sometimes four, recently I've been practicing using a survival belt, on it I easily can carry a knife, a saw, and a hatchet, my ficus was compact and lightweight that punch like a heavyweight, and I think I found that, If I had a choice to pick a survival knife in a survival situation which knife would I pick ? usually a large knife comes to mind, so if I'm carrying my Rodent 7 and my Rodent 4 (for instance) I carry the larger of the two on person, that's my rule of thumb, I sort of got that from the Indigenous Saame People with their Leuku Knives as a 1knife carry, yes I stole that from them, and if the best survival knife is the knife that's on us, a large knife is the one I pick, sure I can carry my Bravo 1 instead and I've practiced with the Bravo 1 as my on person knife with good results, but I like the Bravo 1.5 better between the two in a survival situation, you get the picture, so then your saw the Bacho Laplander it's light and can be carried in your pocket, well I carry the Wicked Tough Saw in its sheath very light too but packs a punch, my hatchet I pick a light one that was very functional and picked my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet (my preference), and a pouch for carrying the basic survival needs (fire, first aid, compass) all the gear on my belt is comfortable and I can manage wearing all of them on person, the other C's I carry in a shoulder sling or my backpact, but I feel if I need to really survive when the S.H.T.F. doesn't having the right tools to beable to do that make better sence, that's why I practice and try out different combinations, that's why right now the gear I mention work for me, they are on my survival belt and on me most of the time, even in camp, but especially when I'm on the move regardless, I only take the belt off is when I think it's safe, and we know this time.

I really like videos like this one. I see guys show their Woodlore and they are prestine. You use yours, so I except your opinion much more. Dont get me wrong I alway's want a R M WoodLore, But I have this Weilmannsheil Elliptical Shape that's sort of slender with a total blade lenght of 4" That I know I can put it up against a Woodlore for carving any day. I can't find any info on my particular one. But when I first got it it had a hard sticker to take off that said Carbon. I have knives that I paid alot more for them, like my Rod Garcia Skookum Bush Tool which I love, or my John Bradley " World Finest Camp Knife" which he made me in a Ironwood Handle it's a Austempered piece of art, Simply TiT's, Beautiful. But like yiu, This Boat Knife of mine is a great neck knife. I don't use it that much anymore because I'm afraid of loosing it and not because it would break, Although I don't baton with it because you can tell it's a scalpel a knife and it's intended purpose is what I use it fir. But Style wise, It's a carver and slicer. I admire videos like this.
