Both Qigong & Taichi is good for improving the health. How effective it is depends on a few factors. I always stress on the first lesson to my students, don take up taichi becos of the name, it won't do any magic or myth. Its very much depends on the time and effort put in, also the essential principles of taichi that each can understand and apply. Taichi without essential principles is just a normal physical exercise. Other factors like unhealthy life style or diet intake play parts too

Don get work up over the name, its only a name given to the form. The intention for Dr Paul Lam to design the set of taichi is to encourage patient and senior citizens pick up taichi as an exercise to improve their condition. The form is short, easy to learn and effective. In the western, there are few medical report proven the effects.

I really pity your mum condition. I won't say taichi help all patients but some of my students' life expericence of health improvement is encouraging. I have students with 'S' spine or haunch back get more upright & aligned, people with osteo have their condition stable, Strengthening of muscle is the most benefit gained. I am only doing my best to help more people to learn taichi, using taichi to improve their health.
