I never met Mr. Van Sickle, but had the chance to work briefly with Ben Lo, Tam Gibbs, Maggie, Newman, and Ed Young while in the Tai Chi Program at the Naropa Institute in Boulder CO. Went off into other Yang forms, did Chen, now back with the Professor for health later in life. I hope Professor Cheng's Tai Chi will help me live longer with my wife, who is the love of my life. If you are in Richmond VA, try Two Rivers Tai Chi, led by John Crouse, who studied with Ben Lo for 30 years. IMHO a clear shot at Professor Chen's style.

Exactly, each student has to find the teacher that best suits them. I practised with 2 different teachers before I found the one that 'clicked' for me. The teacher also has to accept you and your intention. It's relatively easy to find Tai Chi schools and teachers - but finding the right level or quality of teaching is more important than style group. Ken Van Sickle was very fortunate to be in the right place at the right time to find his ideal teacher, which is why he is able to share his experience and knowledge so openly.

Professor Cheng is a master in Chinese painting, traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese poem, Chinese calligraphy and Tai Chi Quan. His Tai Chi Quan amazed people the most. The concept of Tai Chi is very where in Chinese life and philosophy. Chang San Feng, inventor of Tai Chi Quan, just used the name "Tai Chi" to convey the philosophy of fighting techniques. Stay away from other form which jumps up and down or twists your body with lots of fancy nonsense movements. That is designed strictly for stage performance and wishfully to be included as one of Olympic competitions. Chinese government is now touting another new standard form Ba Fa Wu Bu(8 methods 5 steps). In my point of view, it is another Tai Chi monster. People are getting confused with so many styles. Most of the Tai Chi forms you see on KZbin are worthless to study. They lay low with fancy movements. "World champion" does not mean anything, they can't fight Being a Chinese, I'm not afraid to tell the truth.

Winnipeg had a full school as did Toronto. Now their instructors are nearly dead. One excellent instructor is still teaching in Victoria, Canada.
