My uncle had epilepsy and died of a seizure at the age of 42. I've never met anyone else with epilepsy besides him. It was scary seeing an adult go through that I can't imagine a younger person experiencing the same.
@brycenewsom92462 жыл бұрын
@@JV-bc8um I have a few people who have had it in my family. The key is in knowing that you’re not going through it alone. The community has been great, and they understand how I feel. Can’t get wrapped up in “I’m young so this shouldn’t happen to me” because that self-pity is how you get lost. I’m sorry to hear about your uncle. ❤️

My son Jaiden started having Seizures in April last year when he was 2 and a half. No family history at all. Last year his MRI came back abnormal with blotches on his at the front and right side he had his 3rd Seizures in September and then started medication, that's when it all went downhill all winter he has had the cold and we have been in and out of hospital with tonic clonic Seizures lasting 10- 30 minutes every time he sleeps for months a few times the ambulance didnt turn up and his oxygen was very low and when he is ill he gets stuck in a cluster of Seizures and sleeping all day and night and every time he would wake it was into another Seizure, He had a Seizure in the EEG room for his 2nd EEG as they where cleaning the stuff out his hair which caught us of gard cos his first one came back normal, He is now 3 and a half and on 3 medications, apparently he has a very difficult to control epilepsy and he is very loopy alot of the time and struggles walking outside cos he is very wobbly, but he only has one Seizure a night on average around the time of waking up at the moment and its always under 5 minutes now which is huge progress. I remember back when Jaiden was put to sleep for his MRI they where rushing they literally said put him on the table and soon as he sat down he was terrified screeming they put it in his hand and he suddenly went limp mid screem and they rushed him off, It hurt my heart so much and my man almost cried in fright cos he didn't expect him to switch off that fast. I hope your wee man's tests come back okay, he was so brave, if you don't already, I'd recommend a baby monitor so if he makes noise in his sleep you will hear it especially if he is unwell. Love your family I've been a JK fan a long time, I remember watching you guys with your baby when I was pregnant with Jaiden.

Yeah, I learned in school that a person is a diagnosed with epilepsy if he has 2 or more seizures within a short time. An EEG is used for people that have seizures. Hope Taika feels better!
@sallylee31362 жыл бұрын
Wow this is the most likes I've ever received on any comment I've made
@landalanda2 жыл бұрын
I hope this helps you. I started having a seizure when I was very little. I was too young to speak when my first one happened. It happened when I was in the middle of being fed. As I grew up I had annual EEG and took a daily pill that supposed to prevent seizures. As a child my seizure would happened when I’m sick with a fever. I would have a nightmare, wake up crying, vomit, my forehead would feel a tingling numbness before I black out into a seizure. The seizure doesn’t last long and I don’t feel any pain nor was I aware when it happens. It is more scary for the bystanders and parents seeing all that’s happening and feel helpless. The brain does a reset and the whole body reboots. Prior a person is about to seize they would be in sensory overload, so keep quiet, turn off bright lights and even the sounds of a bathroom fan can be overwhelming. Try to keep the person comfortable as much as possible. Even if you are asking if they are ok they may not respond because they are just trying not to feel sensory overload. Just give them time to respond. Every sensor comes back separately. Hearing always comes back first, but the body doesn’t have control over anything else yet so they can’t respond or signal to you that they hear you. Just keep calling out to the person allows the person’s brain to be awake and tries to wake up and slowly they will regain movement over the body. If no one calls out to them they can be out/asleep until the brain is ready to wake. The next sensor they regain is the position of the body. Then regains feeling and movement of the tips of the fingers, feet and eye lids. The body is extremely tired because all the energy has been exerted during the seizure so movement and strength is weak. Speech is always last to come back so don’t freak that the person is now moving but doesn’t respond in words. They are so tired that they don’t have the energy to talk. If they end up responding in words it would be in one word type responses because it takes a lot to reply in a sentence. My word is always “bed” meaning I’m tired and all I want to do it lay down to sleep. Sleeping for as long as 24 hrs is normal. The body is so tired that sleep is more important and eating. I feel 100% better and back to normal when I sleep a whole day after a seizure. I had seizures until I was 12 meaning once a few years. My seizure went away for 12 years and came back when I was 24. The process before a seizure hits as an adult is different than I was a child. Now it is following a weird stomach pain that wakes me up around 3am. I always look at the clock when I wake up like that in the middle of the night. A particular stomach pain would trigger a seizure and I always know when it is coming because my forehead would feel the tingling numbness running across my forehead. I also would feel loke vomiting before my forehead tingles. Then I black out and seize. When a person seizes DO NOT TRY TO STOP IT. The energy exerted is so strong that even if you try to bear hug them they could injure you along with them. So just try to keep their head safe to not knock into anything hard like a wall during a seizure. Try to keep time on how long the seizure goes. It always seems longer than it is so keeping time may help the doctors during the examination. Seizure at a young age happens and is more common than expected. Many children grow out of it at a young age. Many also only has one seizure and that’s it. That has happened to my cousin’s kid and my friend’s kid. So don’t think that Taika will have this all his life. Even if he does have to manage and deal with seizures every few years please don’t lable him as “not normal”. He is a normal child. Just because people like me who has a seizure occasionally doesn’t mean I am not normal or live a normal life. I do everything another person can do. I totally believe Taika will be and IS ok. Just make sure he has his regular follow ups and stay hydrated. All the best wishes to Taika and you guys. I hope my personal experience provides some deeper understanding of how a person feels and goes thru before, during and after a seizure. Of course everyone is different but “waking” from the seizure is the same. All sensory come back separately and hearing is always first and speech last. Love you guys! 💕 Say Hi to Taika for me! 👋🏼🧸

As a neuro/epilepsy nurse, I’m glad you went further and got the EEG, MRI, and blood work done just to make sure. That process is usually the standard protocol for seizure monitoring in kids with no history of seizures. This video is so important to me, especially hearing how the teachers handled the situation. I understand that it’s a scary experience, but I want to commend you both for handling this situation very well and for being amazing parents. Taika is very lucky to have you. ❤️🙏🏽 Praying for Taika.

I teared up when you were describing what Taika had to go through for his tests, as a parent seeing your child uncomfortable and scared, and the helpless feelings that entails. When someone is actively having a seizure it is essential to have a familiar voice telling them “hey its gonna be alright I’m here for you.....fight.....come back.” Talk to them repeatedly.....let them hear your voice.....this helps them come out of the seizure. Also there are petite mal seizures and grand mal seizures. Grand mal usually is a sign of epilepsy or a tumor. I was raised in a grouphome and saved my best friend ashley when she was having one because the inept staff had 0 idea what to do but I did and it saved her life. Hope this helps!

I had my first seizure at 27 and the second one a year later. MRI came out normal as well as EEG (to my understanding). I've been diagnosed with (unidentified) epilepsy and have to take medicine. There is no one in my family (that we know of) to have had seizures or epilepsy. Mine are not triggered by flashing lights and no one really knows why I had them. I guess you don't want anything to be wrong with you, but hearing that you're fine and you have seizures sometimes sucks.
