You make it look so easy. Once one tries to fly RC one realizes how hard it actually is. And then you go and create the Duckatross! That is a whole new level, thx for sharing!

Very nice L-39! I have the same still without floats 😝 Great video, as always!! But no matter how I thought about it, I couldn’t understand why the plane would like to pitch up either on water or air since the drag is bellow the CG and would be acting like a brake from the bottom (?)… great analysis as always :)) cheers! EDF float planes can happen! A float plane is an aspect of flying I haven’t gotten to try yet. Not enough time and cash to make a mistake, but when I do, I have a couple designs I’d love to try.

I Love my Flying Boats and the Float planes. 1/3 of my collection of 535 R/C Aircraft land on the water. I also fly a Full Size LAKE LA-4-200 Amphibian Flying Boat. Nothing beats ; landing on the water. My passengers always hold their breath as I touch down. Great Idea with the Jet. I shall pass your video to my fellow R/C friends. Arrgh! Capt Mrgn. N32DQ USA

Regarding flying out of the box. I have a LDS church in my back yard. I am an active member, therefore the large parking lot and ball field is my personal flying field / runway..lol. (But seriously, don't park stupid in my runway.) When I find myself at the actual flying field that I am a member of. I swear I don't fly as well, because I am not accustomed to so much unencumbered space. I find a certain satisfaction in landing my largest planes in the church parking lot 🤠.

For the life of me, I can't seem to figure out why it would want to pitch up. You guys obviously know what you're doing, but I normally grasp this kind of thing quickly. If the thrust is above the CoL, and the drag is below it, wouldn't both be trying to nose the plane over? The slope of the main float doesn't seem extreme enough to act as an inverse spoiler. So why does it pitch up? Is the CG fairly far back to make it float right?
@TailHeavyProductions2 жыл бұрын
It definitely was odd. I felt it the most at low air speeds and high angles of attack. One of the likely causes was the drag of the float below the airframe (just like in a full scale plane when dropping the gear and the nose wants to pitch up requiring down trim). The other likely factor was that the net center of lift was moved forward as well due to the big float under the plane at a higher angle of attack. The float itself is a lifting body. I was likely feeling a pitching moment, that is, like a lever. A body like the giant float under the fuselage will have it’s center of lift about 1/4 back from the nose which would be well ahead of the CG of the plane. There could be other reasons too such as altered airflow over the horizontal stab for instance but none of it is provable without wind tunnel data. -Zach

Steel bars and gorilla glue lined through the floats connectors should help it stay in place

on the mono ski you could add carbon or alluminum rods pointed foward protruding from the wings leading edge in line of the fuel tanks. attach a short wire/cable from the tip of the attached rods to the foward tip of the fuel tanks. simple, lite and easy

I'm confused! Why would adding drag BELOW the fuselage cause it to want to pitch UP? I would think it would make the plane pitch down. I'm imagining (exaggerated example) having a stick sticking out below the fuselage with a parachute attached) certainly that would cause a huge pitch DOWN moment?
@TailHeavyProductions Жыл бұрын
You would think so - but this plane made us scratch our heads as well!
@3DParadigmDesign Жыл бұрын
Maybe the pontoon is creating some amount of lift in front of the plane's neutral point causing that pitch up moment 🤔

Sound mixing in this was terrible. The background noise and annoying music often overpowered the far-too hurried and slurred narration.
