Yes, please! I'm a vintage reseller - so re-imagining & re-purposing is most definitely my thing. If you have the gift of reinvention, it's a lovely thing to inspire and show others how to see something new for themselves in something that was once new for someone else : )

I have been watching and subscribed to men's clothing videos (One Dapper Street, The Modest Man, The Kavalier, Gentleman's Gazette, Sartorial Talks, ect...) for years. How come I just came across you in my feed? You are as good as the best of them. As anyone who understands being well dressed knows, fit is king. I subscribed. Really well done.

I have noticed a very trivial thing. We Germans in the 20s, 30s , 40s and 50s had a very different mentality in classical menswear. Due to our societal mentality, our suits were often more tempered, militaristic, aesthetic and strict and more formal. A normal worker and even in his casual Free time often wore more darker colors and darker colored shoes. For hiking for example we often used heavy wool fabric which was inspiring to our former military. The suits were stronger tailored to a wasp form. Compared to Amis, we Germans didn’t wear that much casual elements, and when we did, then it was military tunics for example. Very interesting to see the difference between two cultures and the different mentality. I myself love my German classical fashion tradition and also like to wear jackboots/Schaftstiefel when going for a walk with heavy wool fabric. When using hat cover for hiking I buy some German replica hat, and you can get good original marching boots in the DDR-NVA category or alternatively buy Wehrmacht Replica boots, since the goods are widely produced in the Wehrmacht segment, yeah but if you don’t like to wear ww2 boots for obvious reason, you can also buy from Kaiserreich era or Weimarer Republik, tho I prefer boots from the 40s since they were shorter for saving material and you don’t need very high Marschstiefel anyways. We Germans also like to wear for casual hiking for example 4 pocket tunic with heavy wool fabric, or black oxfords. Yeah, we Germans also mostly have worn like I mentioned more formal things even for causal events. Good bye, god bless Höcke Hoch

Thanks for helping me understand how you changed the rise on those trousers, how you drew out all the chalk lines, how you were considering using the seat adjustment to adjust the pleats, and how you reasoned out utilizing professional dry cleaning pressing to suffice for the shoulders. And yes to more re-purpose videos from you as well. Thanks again.

Hi man, can you please please elaborate/demonstrate on rising the rise as mentioned around 3:00 ? The concept is not quite clear to me, even after the close up shot later. But this will be VERY useful in making more outdated lower-rise pants a bit more comfortable. Hope to hear! Also, do you recommend any limit to how much it can be taken in, before things start to warp or get disproportionate?

Thanks for the video. I just want to let you know that your videos have given me the knowledge and the courage to try and alter my thrifted garments. I've done quite a few hemmings, sleeve shortenings and waist alterations. Just finished sizing down 2 sizes a beautiful 2-piece suit that was way short and big for me. Including the shoulders. Now, I'm not 100% pleased with my work, far from it, but it's still cool to try and learn doing something like that. So yep, thanks for the tutorials, keep going.

What do you mean by not messing with the “outside crotch”? I sew my own clothes from patterns but I want to learn to tailor my own but also some pants I’ve found for my husband. I need to do a flat butt adjustment on him (and alot of my own pants need a higher rise) but I’m confused what outer vs inner crotch is? Its all inner i thought 🧐

Hi there, I just found your channel and are keen to dive deep into it, although I am not into tailoring myself. However, I love classic menswear and know that it is crucial that you should wear the clothes, not the other way around. I am also a avid thrift shopper and recently I acquired a beautiful Harris Tweed jacket, dating back to 60s. Full canvas, football buttons, great pattern, heavy fabric and (unfortunately) very very structured. Wearing it is like wearing armor. Whilst I am very much in love in lighter, Italian style jackets, I just had to buy the tweed jacket. So my question is as follows: is it possible to lighten the structure of that tweed jacket?

nice, a bit too wide at the bottom for my taste especially since you're not too tall but masterful work, kudos. About the shoulders, though, what is it about Neapolitan shoulders that the shoulder to sleeve transition is so smooth, it almost looks fused together, the seam isn't even visible and it looks like it's all one piece.

I am going to learn how to dress better one video at a time. I came here because I am absolutely HUNTING for a suit to wear to my cousin's wedding and the more I learn, the more I am thinking I should just go to all the thrifts stores in my closest "rich" area then get it tailored (whatever I eventually buy). I don't have a large budget and I am hoping to spend less than $300 total so here's to the fruitful journey I have ahead of myself. I have exactly 22 days to find a suit and get it tailored from the time I am writing this comment. I also have no idea how much a tailor job will cost me and whether I should go to a place like Jos. A Bank or find a smaller local tailor.

I'm kind of shocked that you used this suit as a base for your alterations. I buy many thrifted sport jackets and my #1 criteria is that the shoulder seams sit properly on the shoulder bones. This jacket looks way too wide in the shoulders for you. With properly fitted shoulders, I'm lucky that the body nearly always fits my chest. I have short arms, and jacket arms are almost always too long. At the beginning of the video, your thrifted jacket was completely covering your cuffs, but at the end, you had some cuff exposed. Did you shorten the jacket sleeves also? Also, my second no-go criteria for thrifted jackets are arm holes that are too large. If you lift your elbow and the sleeve pulls at the middle of the bicep and the shoulder pads lift to your ears, the arm hole is too large. The jacket isn't worth saving. I get excited when I find a jacket where I can lift my arms into driving position comfortably, with minimal arm pulling and shoulder lift.
@AspiringGent
@AspiringGent Жыл бұрын
Awesome points! This jacket actually fit my shoulder pretty spot on. Not sure were you stop yours but I like mine just past the fleshy part of my shoulder. No I didn't shorten the sleeves my shirt was probably not sitting right in the first shoot.
