Honestly, that second collar with the bow attached at the end was absolutely genius, it’s superb. I like it more than the original piece.

Fashion should be uniquely individualized if you are creating it and not mass produced. Otherwise we all should just wear uniforms. I’m amazed at how you went along with your project despite not having your work horse sewing machine. I know hand sewing is meticulous, but it also has a meditative effect that puts you in the moment.
@anotherdreamgonewest Жыл бұрын
When I worked in the industry everything was about cost sheets and production simplification- which is tough because fashion should also be accessible, so those things are important. Still, it takes a while to shake that mentality even when making it myself. Using my hands instead of the machine is a good way to start though, ha!

Thank you! And yep- that’s the issue with black wool, you can bump up the levels to bring out the details, but then the wool looks washed out. I may play around with lighting and put something up on IG or shorts or somewhere.

Re: big collars. Not too long ago my daughter (b. 1984) commented about my fixation with big collars when I sewed most of her clothes. I was puzzled at first till I realized how 'fashionable' they were for a few years there...at the time I just thought they were cute!
@anotherdreamgonewest Жыл бұрын
I can see that! Most of the toddler/little kid patterns I have from my mom have some type of oversized collar. They’re back in style now, though! I have to say I like them, and am deeply considering grading up one of the vintage patterns.

Really nice coat and I'm envious. Watching how you do things is very interesting to me. I've been lucky to find new wool coats at thrift stores. Thanks for sharing your sewing journey. I've started the wardrobe culling process. I'm dying to sew new stuff and most of my clothes are 7-11 years old. So a few new things should sate my thirst for change.

@@anotherdreamgonewest my weight fluctuates and so I've taken or let out my clothes accordingly over the years. I refashioned two blouses and dresses. I just feel guilty about culling clothes in good shape. I don't care about fashion trends.

Had to leave for a moment and check out the trailer...👀. How... exceedingly odd 😅 Not sure yet, if it appeals to me, but you had me 'tailoring' and 'jacket'. Making a jacket from scratch has been on my bucket list for at least 10 years.
@anotherdreamgonewest Жыл бұрын
Haha- yes, it looks like an exceedingly odd movie (based on an exceedingly odd book) but it’s from Yorgos Lanthimos, who made The Favourite, so at least it will be beautifully odd (and likely a bit raunchy.) I’m with you on the fully tailored jacket, and I was so caught up in the excitement about the costume that it wasn’t until I was pad stitching that I was like “oh… I guess I’m doing this?”

I loved her bicycle sweater look as well and the light blue jacket and yellow shorts look and the piece she dances in. The costuming is so good in this I want to try my hand at making some Victorian styled outerwear. I always thought the sleeves might be too overwhelming but maybe that’s not the case lol. That is a beautiful coat, I don't think it is something I would wear in _public_, but I do have a piece of coating that is too small for a full length coat so it is tempting. I really want an Inverness cape, but 5yd is nowhere near enough for that. Piled on the ironing board it looked like you had a lot of fabric, but when laying out the pattern it didn't look like so much, how much fabric did you use? I was already subscribed, but @22:22 "If you fancy further forays into character and history that drift into _unexpected_ territory" would have got me. Sorry, I know sometimes a banana is just a banana, but you had to have known what you were doing.
@anotherdreamgonewest Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yep, it’s a *lot* of look to wear around in public, but I have a creative job so… maybe… I only used about 3.5 yards for the full coat. I bought 7 because the fabric is absolutely beautiful and it was deadstock, so pretty inexpensive. Not sure yet what I’ll do with the rest. And… yep… it’s mentioned in a lot of previews and reviews so I guess it’s not a spoiler… fruit takes an unexpected turn in Poor Things.
