I had a 1992 Northern Lite 9.6 and it was AMAZING!!!! Light, wet bath, loved the bed layout and it was on a 2500HD and did amazing!! BECAUSE it was older it did not have the basement so it was a lot lighter then the newer ones with a basement. My 9.6 was lighter then the smaller newer ones. I NEVER give a online deposit!! There are so many people out there that are just scamming. Even some older people that you would think are honest are now doing it.

Get a bigger trailer one with an oven to cook in and the washroom . Twin axels and a heater inside. I would not get a truck camper because you have a double cab truck . If you had the 8 foot bed or longer it would be OK but only just OK . A trailer is the way to go

That sucks that he scammed you. Really hope you get your funds back. I refuse to use Venmo, CashApp etc. I only use Zelle with friends and family that I personally know because you need a phone number attached to it. My go to for these types of transactions is typically PayPal. In all my years of using them for personal and my craft business I never had an issue getting a dispute resolved on either side of the transaction. I find and report so many scams on Facebook. Over 50% of the listing are scams. I window shop but I haven't bought anything from there. I was a Craigslist guy until they charged money. I just bite the bullet and buy new. Anyways, I'm sorry that happened. But its a great warning for us to avoid.

Have you checked out alaskan campers? (That's the company name - they're actually built in WA.) I suspect it may be too small for what you want, but if not, they are more versatile, in terms of where you can go, than anything else that's ever been built - and good for winter. It's very unique.

I feel like that's all I see on Facebook Marketplace anymore. Every RV/Camper/Trailer/etc. is a scam. Either it's priced too low, or one picture, or the seller refers to somebody else with some long sad backstory.

There are creeps out there, unfortunately. I was looking for a vacation rental a few years ago and, after a little investigation, I realized the scammer was borrowing pictures of a random house for sale nearby on a realtor's website and serving them up as pics of his vacation house. Knowing that, I continued to play as if I was seriously interested but insistent that I must see the house, in person, first. That's when all the excuses came out as to why a visit would not be possible. The lesson I learned was never to transfer any money until some means of accountability is established. I'm so sorry you had to run into this guy. My wish is that something good comes your way and makes you forget about this.

Consider this ... I have a ( pre-covid ) 2020 white Ford F350 4dr cab 6.2 gas 10 speed. I found an all aluminum trailer at Becks Trailers called the Baja made by Legend a very reputable builder. It's a 7 x 15 v-nose 7ht with a weight of 1750 and a payload of 5400 with AC/ Windows and RV door (Cost $22000 ). I'm going to build my own bathroom. I also put a ARE HD cap on the truck to give myself enormous amount of options for my dogs safety, sleeping, storage, camping, roof top tent and cargo protection. My towing capacity is 12,200 and I believe yours is 21,000 which is really impressive. Take advantage of your trucks capabilities. Pulling a trailer with your truck would be no problem. I'm hitting the road to American Girl Mine in January 2024.

Cirrus 720 is my favorite truck camper! Bigfoot next, then the Lance 650 next in line. I thought the 8-11 Northern lite was on the heavier side. Not too sure. We have the same taste! Sorry this happened to you I heard Facebook Craigslist eBay etc these online marketplaces have about 25% scammers. If I had to deposit I would charge it on my credit card that way I can dispute with my credit card company.

Well, that’s not good. It’s a darn shame that there are people out there who just thrive on cheating other people; just not right. I’ve spent a good deal of time on FB Marketplace for the last two months looking for an RV and the scam postings are definitely there - but, I report each and every one. Don’t care how much time it takes; that report is going in. I’m sorry this happened to you Cass but I’m sure it won’t happen again, and the right camper is out there just waiting for you. Just because it's a fiberglass 2 piece camper, doesn't mean it won't leak. Just ask YT channel Jonathan Yentch. I really feel sorry for this guy. He drove from Oregon up to Vancouver Island and paid a premium for a '95 Bigfoot 1500 for small pickups. He brags about how great the fiberglass clamshell design is and how they don't leak. Spoiler alert...in his last video he has completely stripped it down to the shell because he kept finding soaking wet dry rot and black mold everywhere.

He and I were talking a bit about that. They can leak because there are still holes for jacks, electric and such. It’s making sure you have a prior owner that kept those properly sealed is the trick. In the end, the fiberglass will hold together for much longer and is much easier to maintain.

They got an extended warranty that covered everything...well, almost everything. A couple years later they discovered dry rot around the slide and it wasn't covered by the warranty.

PayPal would get your money back, but since it’s less that $1000.00 no real law enforcement would be interested in the crime. Sometimes the money transfer company can ask the bank the money is transferred to to put a hold on the suspected fraudulent account. I think PayPal has better terms for things like deposit, or goods exchange without any real ‘catch all’ type scammers…

Hate that. I had a similar situation on FB Marketplace, except that I paid with my Amex and they credited back my account. I was attempting to purchase a Macbook Air and the guy was very communicative back and forth up until I paid for the laptop. I received a UPS tracking number and everything. However, when I got notification that the item had been delivered (and I was home all day b/c I work from home) and did not get a UPS delivery, I then knew I had been scammed. Called UPS to inquire about the delivery and asked them where the shipment was delivered and they informed me they couldn't provide me that information. Hopped back on FB and the profile was gone and no more communication. Immediately filed a fraud case with Amex and they credited my account while they did their investigation and I did not have to pay for that. Lesson learned - in person and local transactions only for me going forward.

Unfortunately, by default, deposits are not refundable unless it's specified as refundable in a document both parties have agreed to. In some cases, even if it's stated in a text it can be enforceable. Of course, that assumes you can get the other party in a courtroom for a civil case proceeding. Not likely in this case. Glad it was only 500.00. You're a smart girl. You won't be fooled twice.

I have an Alaskan camper that would fit your truck really well, but it’s in that higher price point so it may not work. I haven’t posted it for sale yet but was planning to when it warms up. I can give you more info if you are interested in it.

@@TailsofWanderlust It has a cassette toilet but not a shower / full bathroom. I use an evershower in it combined with a geyser shower, so it has an inside shower, but not an easy to use one like you’d find in a Lance or a Northern Lite. It’s designed to be lean and not make your truck huge. It’s a 7 foot long so it’s the size of the bed of your truck. You can tow a trailer with the camper on your truck without needing any extensions. I had a Lance previously and it just limited the offroading I could do. It is the only hard sided pop up camper, so when you drive you don’t notice it’s on your truck. When you get there it pops up with a button push and is up in about a minute. There is no perfect rig, you are always trying to figure out what you are getting and losing.

I hope things work out for you because I love watching your adventure. And yes, Lance is the way to go (for me). I consider everything else "not worth it". I've had 3 of them in the last 30 years and they've never let me down. I lived full time in one with my German Shepherd for a year and had zero problems.

And do a credit check on them before you commit anything. And a criminal check. Also, you can use Zillow to your advantage. But still if they want to rip you off they will. Keep all you have because if you were ripped off so were a lot of other people and if you all get together you might be ablt to figure out where this guy is!

Sorry to hear about the scammer. I ran into the same thing on Facebook Market space. I will not give any deposit on anything ever. If it get sold it gets sold. I encourage you to tell the seller you will be there soon. BTW at a credible auto dealer I have put a check deposit down but for NEVER more than $50 to $100 dollars on $30 to $40 K car. We have an Alde system in our nucamp t@b 400 BDL and the system is filled with glycol so not sure what could freeze. You are right the floor heating is slow so we use the Alde to heat when below 30 degrees. Our heat pump for warmer temps. In three years only a single error code and they took resetting a circuit breaker. Regardless best of luck

I feel like people are trying to take advantage of the shortage of RVs that have existed for a while and normalized the practice of putting down a deposit first. We had a T@b made from the same manufacturer as Cirrus truck campers, and we loved, loved, loved the Alde system! We never had a problem with it and it heated the camper and water cheaply and well. I just wanted to give you a different perspective so the horror stories don't get all the attention. Also, NuCamp, the manufacturer, is amazing to work with. Quality products and helpful people!

Same here, we have a NuCamp 2020 T@b 400 with an Alde heater. Never have had a problem. A lot of the problems you hear about are user error, like not turning the gas on. Our Alde heats great. NuCamp workmanship is so solid and they respond quickly if you have a problem. I would give the Cirrus a second look. Good luck

Glad Im done shopping. Its jus me an my small dog. I went with a van. Very happy with it. Pricey...but...whatevs at this pont. When I went to the bank to get the cashiers check to pay for my camper the bank was telling me there are A LOT of scams out there for RVs. All the best.

If it's on the RAM I'm still trying to find a reliable place. Right now i"m working with Transwest RAM of Limon, CO and Altitutde OffRoad in Castle Rock, CO. Work still yet to be done, but they've been the best so far from knowledge standpoints on the RAM.

I just got hit by, maybe, the same scam. I'm two days into conversations and a facetime walk around, but as this guy asked for a deposit I paused. I asked for a photo of his drivers license before I send him money and I haven't heard from him for two days... hmmmm. Weird. I don't think I'm going to hear from him because he's played some people on the same northern lite scam you got hit with. THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this. I'm going to back out of this even if it's real. In part because of your other info and your other great videos. I"m 6'1" tall and I don't think this camper will work for me anyway. SO SO sorry for your $500 loss. How can we stop this guy?

He's selling a northern lite 610 in reno on marketplace right now. Maybe he's legit, but my spider senses sure are tingling!

That’s really frustrating! Hope you had it all figured out. The 610 is going to be very tight if you are 6’1”. There are a lot of other short bed light weight campers I’ve come across since then. If I could re-do it I would have trued a Capri or Real Lite or SixPac on my Tundra before upgrading to the 3500. Don’t know much about them but I’ve seen a few of them listed.

There are tons of honest people in this world. It’s sad you encountered a fraudster. There’s always that danger when entering into purchasing items privately but that’s where the more affordable deals live. Thankfully it was only $500 but still it’s $500. You’re a smart gal Cassie and they have to get up pretty early to fool you. I doubt the next trickster will meet with the same success. I hope you get your money back.

Yeah, I never go alone with any third-party payments that the sellers ask me to transfer the money to complete the transaction. I only accept Facebook Pay and am willing to move on if the seller rejects my request. Especially with deals too good to be true, I will not yield. Nevertheless, I did get scammed in the past, though, and it was hard for me to trust anyone from that point on.😅 I am sorry for your situation, though.
