FYI: You could have just unhooked the battery. It would reset the computer. Then you could have rolled the windows up and turned on the heat. It would probably malfuntion again when you start driving but at least you get the windows up. Just a little tip for anybody else in that situation. 🙂

Congratulations on the new RAM. As I watched things came to mind that you might need know but then one by one, you brought up each point and covered all the bases. From the harsh ride of an empty 3500 to engine size for hauling, you did all the research and due diligence needed. Great choice and you don't need any advice from the peanut gallery. Congratulations, looks like a beautiful truck. My son in law has the same truck. Just a heads up with modern Diesel engines, do not idle your engine all the time or you will be spending large amounts of cash to have the DPF (diesel particulate filter) cleaned out or replaced. These new engines are meant to start and go, no long warm ups needed. Anyway, enjoy your new ride.

THIS STATEMENT IS ONLY ‘HALF’’ RIGHT YOU DO NOT NEED TO WARM UP THIS NEW DIESEL TYPE ENGINE WHEN TEMP IS ‘’ ABOVE ‘’ 40 F . WHEN IT IS 39 F YOU SHOULD ALLOW 4-5 MIN WARM UP. BELOW 32 F YOU SHOULD ALLOW 8-10 MIN. WARM UP. BELOW 7 F YOU SHOULD ALLOW 13- 15 MIN WARM UP. BELOW -7 F YOU SHOULD ALLOW 20-25 MIN WARM UP THIS IS EXTREM COLD -30 C . REMEMBER TO ALWAYS FILL TYPE 2 OR GRADE 2 DIESEL OR SOME PLACES CALL IT DIESEL GOLD. SOME NO NAME SERVICE STATIONS HAVE LOW GRADE DIESEL . STAY AWAY FROM THESE PLACES. USE ONE OF THE 6 BIG NAME STATIONS , OR TRUCK STOPS. DIESEL IS USUALLY 45-55 CENTS ‘’MORE’’ THAN REG GAS PRICE . WHEN YOU DO YOUR NEXT OIL CHANGE PUT IN AMS-OIL ‘’SIGNATURE’’SERIES MAX -DUTY SYNTHETIC DIESEL OIL 5W-40 AND ADD 1 LITRE OF LUCUS ‘’SYNTHETIC ‘’ OIL STABILIZER FOR EVERY ‘’6 LITRES’’ OF AMSOIL. THESE ARE THE BEST 2 COMBINATIONS OF OIL PRODUCTS FOR THE RAM CUMMINS TURBO DIESEL ENGINES. TRY AND USE A BOSCHE OR AMSOIL OIL FILTER AS WELL. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE OIL CHANGE BUT SO IS YOUR CUMMINS DIESEL ENGINE . A NEW CUMMINS WILL COST $ 9,000 PLUS LABOUR AND TAX . SO SPENDING $140-155 ON AN OIL CHANGE IS WELL WORTH CARING FOR THIS ENGINE. OIL IS THE LIFE BLOOD OF ANY ENGINE, NEVER GO CHEAP ON THIS MAINTENANCE.
@redman2751
@redman2751 2 жыл бұрын
@@TailsofWanderlust he’s right. I work on heavy duty rigs for a living. They don’t produce enough heat to burn the ash the engine produces so the DPF catch’s it so you’ll be doing more regens which will decrease the max life of the DPF. You can always delete the DPF but that comes with its own set of issues you may not be willing to deal with.

I understand the Tundra is in the past now but replacing the one sensor should have only been a few hundred bucks. Then the Christmas tree light you needed to disconnect the battery to reset the system. The popping up front when turning is 99% a blown or about to blow CV axles which is few hundred bucks with labor. Sorry you had a bad experience with the Tundra as any vehicle going offraod will be rattled down and will have issues. You definitely got my next truck of going with a Ram 2500.

Thanks Sean. The blind spot module itself was $1500+ install, so sadly wasn’t that cheap of a fix. And tried the disconnecting battery trick and it didn’t work. Still would be interested what it was in the end!

Congrats on finding what you wanted/needed in this CrAzY car/truck market!! So glad I'm not shopping right now, even if the dealer wants to buy back my 8 year old SUV at more than I paid for it. No kidding....the Tundra contrary to what a lot of people think, is quite weak in the payload department no matter which model you have, without airbags in the back they have a terrible amount of squat for what Toyota pretends to be a 1/2 ton truck...that's one huge negative I quickly found with my 08 Tundra was the soft springs in what was supposed to be a "work truck" model. Also, wasn't impressed with the multiple rear axle bearing failures, and the multiple front differential howl/growl issues it had which both issues were known to Toyota and were actually TSB's but luckily got fixed on mine under warranty multiple times, at 104k I got rid of the truck as the extended warranty was up and knowing how often those issues would resurface themselves I didn't want to deal with it out of pocket. Didn't care for the IFS either, it was horrible on roads I frequently had to travel.

I have a question that I really hope you read and reply to. I do not RV yet, but hope to retire in 2 years. I just bought a 2003 Tundra because of the car market right now, I wanted something cheap. 4 wheel drive, V-8. I know you really do your research and I love that you went to such lengths to find a very light camper. I would love to get one of these as well, so I could do some weekend or one week stuff. So my question is i see all of these Ram and other brands of pickups (not Honda or Toyota) rusted out, especially the Rams. Did they fix the rust issues?
@TailsofWanderlust

As an owner of multiple RAM trucks, I can assure you that the 2019 forwards Gen 5’s come with several “standard” features that you will read about frequently. Water leaks, water leaks and more water leaks. My current truck had a sunroof leak (replaced) and cab marker lights (replaced after 3 attempts to fix the issue) and a loose shifter. The shifter could have been tightened in 5 minutes with a 10 mm socket, but the dealer advised that the only way Chrysler would cover the labour was if the entire assembly was replaced. Dear God, yet another week for the parts to ship! Also be aware of a common….very common leak from the centre brake light. These trucks are assembled by minimally paid foreign workers in a foreign assembly plant. Remember, when one door closes, another door opens. Other than that it was a pretty good RAM truck.

Yep, today's vehicles are so full of unnecessary electronic crap its no wonder a cheap dollar sensor caused so many problems. I'm not surprised. I left the gas cap loose on my 08 Tundra once, set off the stupid check engine light....a friend of mine had a reader which was also a programmer for his Dodge....we didn't think anything of it just to plug it in as the code reader portion and reset the light, but ooops, that idea took a turn real quick...dash lit up like a Christmas tree, disabled every single safety nanny in the vehicle, 4WD didn't work, windows wouldn't work, etc. Had to take it to the dealer, paid $150 for them to reprogram the computer, and all was fine, luckily mine was the base model 4x4 V8 work truck, I would have probably had about the same issues that she had after she drilled through that sensor LOL. Although, I couldn't complain about the safety nannies being disabled, made the truck 100x more fun to drive without all that crap interfering.

Wow. Great looking truck - especially the interior. I'm going through the truck debate myself after 5 years in a Sprinter and wanting a truck/custom slide in. I actually fell in love with the truck idea (to replace my Sprinter that I've never had 100% faith in) because of wanting a Tundra to get into quality I truly trusted.... and then I discovered the Payload issue. I had never appreciated all the pros/cons/differences between the truck models and brands. Funny. the mission started because I was yearning for a Toyota and here I am researching Ford's because of the F150s payload. Best of luck with the rest of your project. We enjoy your content for the well-thought-out ideas.

Keep an eye on that suspension, high end suspension have short maintenance intervals. As low as 15k or less depending on off roading. Definitely wrap/cover the shocks to protect the seals and shafts. Could mean a lot of downtime since King is always backordered. Even if they weren’t, to find a shop that can fully rebuild a race shock on site while your 3500 sat on their lift would eliminate 95%-99% of the shops even in Southern California (Race shock capital😀) I had Kings, and won’t be going that direction again for maintenance reasons. Having to get my truck on the lift, have it rebuilt, realigned was too much hassle and money. They rode great though!

You should have good luck with it, I've only had two small issues, thermostat with was covered under warranty and I swear the factory tires felt like they were square but a fresh set of duratracs solved that. I agree the payload on the 2500 is pretty low but coming from a Tacoma it's a big improvement, I mostly bought it so I can tow pretty much anything I want and my bigass dog has plenty of room after I removed the rear seat and built a platform

These modern electrical systems are total garbage! A one off parking sensor disabling the whole truck! I had a similar issue where the ground wire for the transfer case (my 2015 Sequoia) was bad. All my lights came on..4hi/4lo, abs, traction control, steering wheel light, brake, odometer didn't add any more miles. the kicker was the dealer said the transfer case module was needed to replace. It's a $3000 unit luckily under warranty and come back in a few days when the part comes in. I get a call next day can I bring it back to the service. Toyota corporate wants more testing to make sure. I took it back and their master tech said it was just a bad ground wire for the transfer case unit! Ok, would they have diagnose it again if toytoa corporate wasn't involve? Or just take $3k plus labor and call it a day?

Nothing close to new, but I liked my 99 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 regular cab. It would go anywhere. It had the 318 V8, and 5 speed manual transmission....unfortunately a local dealership screwed up a clutch replacement and made a mess of things, luckily I got their idiot mechanic's "diagnosis" in writing so when stuff went south they go their mess of a truck back. I should have kept it but at the time, I was just done with that dealership's poor customer service and the lack of support. It was a pretty comfortable riding truck too...pretty decent fuel economy mid to high 20's on the highway, but it was a terrible tow vehicle due to the 3.55 gearing...they really should have 3.73's at a minimum for a truck equipped with the factory tow package....which if I would have kept the truck it would have gotten 3.73's or 4.10's, and a limited slip.

I have a 2019 2500 with the Cummins and air suspension pulling a 36ft 5th wheel. I do not have the high output and it is smooth. I am at the top end on payload but you would never know it. Just had the CP3 done last week and it is a little smoother on acceleration. I ran Hot Shot with the CP4 and never had a problem and have 59K miles on it. Great choice - one of the best things about that truck is the Cummins engine. Yes it’s a beast, but it’s also an extremely reliable engine, fuel pump notwithstanding. I had 2019 2500 Ram with Cummins and it ran like a top and I got reasonable good mileage - 18 mpg on highway.

@@TailsofWanderlust I traded it in for a Ford transit 250. Only reason was because the van better fit my needs. The Transit can carry same weight or more, and for me (I refinish furniture and other woodworking) it was easier to load and unload wood, furniture, machinery etc., van also protects load from rain so I am not limited to moving things on sunny days.

Happy Thanksgiving and Have and Merry Christmas *Newly Updated Safety Suggestions: for Campers, Explorers, Travelers* I just happened to see your channel, and others similar channels recently, and I think that you, and others sharing their actual reality, and some have expressed some of the up, and down sides to van, RV, or vehicle living. Although, I just noticed your KZbin channel, and other similar channels, displaying van living. I just wanted to remind everyone to Aware Be of your surroundings and Alert, I just posted this anyway to help anyone who may benefit from these suggestions I believe that it is very helpful, and beneficial to others who may be thinking about this type of living without actually thinking through, about the some of the realistic problems that could occur with vehicle or van living etc... People need to know what up sides there are, as well as some of the down sides of vehicle living. I believe this channel, and other channels have been informative to others, including myself. Although, I am NOT living in a vehicle or anything like this. I feel that you , and others KZbinrs sharing this with your viewers will be very helpful. I wish you ALL the Best with your traveling endeavors. I shared this with several other travelers, as I watched their KZbin channel for the first time, as yours, and I shared with them this information that may be helpful to you as well to others. Therefore, I would also like to suggest a few Safety tips, and items that may help you, or others in your viewing audience. Although, you may have knowledge of this already, I am not sure, so I hope this will be helpful to you, others or someone. *Keep a Extra working cellphone with you or in your vehicle. You can purchase inexpensive phone with a very low monthly price between 25, 35, 45, dollars a month with unlimited data and text, and some have Nationwide coverage Do your research for the best fit for you Consider Carrying Several Extra portable cellphone phone chargers, and cables. Consider theses items: *Mini portable power charging station. I have also seen outdoor portable solar powered power stations, that can be recharged from sunlight this may be very useful to have, to power your devices. *Invest in a Cellular signal booster for outdoor use, and camping situations to boost or amplify your cell signal and reception. Consider also the purchase of a WiFi signal booster to also boost your WiFi signal. Research to see what you prefer. *Very Inportant: Invest in a SOS distress electronic signal device, this a kind of device can send out a distress signal with your exact location. There are various types of these devices, and including devices that can be used when boating, or camping situations. *Some have emergency Strobe lights SOS signaling with location alerts, and location updates that can be sent to your family, and emergency first responders. Some can be synchronized with your smart watch or phone. There are some satellite SOS texting messaging, locator devices that will send messages with your phone even if there isn’t any cellular signal, or WiFi. With this device your can still text, and communicate with others in a emergency satellite transmission. Check online, for various emergency SOS products, some are small to fit in the palm of your hand. You can check online, and on Amazon, research what SOS devices will be a good fit for you. *Mini portable vehicle battery jumper charger *vehicle battery jumper cables *Vehicle Jumper cables *PLEASE BE AWARE* that in the *WINTER* *vehicle *Batteries fail* many times in very cold weather conditions. Vehicle batteries drain more often in the winter months. Please Keep a vehicle battery portable jumper pack, this is a device that can jumper or boost your vehicles battery yourself without another vehicle. If you have a older battery in your vehicle, Please have it tested or replace it, and consider the purchase a new vehicle battery with higher Cold Cranking Amps rating. Be Aware that Sometimes even a battery that is a few years old can fail in the Winter months, and extremely cold temperatures. Some alternatives to Winter Camping, Travelers, Explorers, etc, if you can find a Warmer Climate Location to stay during Extreme Winter months, or stay with family for a few weeks. Another alternative is renting somewhere, Hotel, Apartment, although it can probably get expensive. What ever you decide, or choose to do or as a possible alternative, Please Be Careful, Alert, Aware, Safe, and Informed... *Keep a Fire extinguisher handy *Smoke detectors, and Carbon monoxide detectors can be helpful Consider installing; *Mounted Dashboard camera front and rear possibly. *Exterior vehicle mounted camera for the front, rear, and both sides of your vehicle. Some can be activated by motion, Including spotlights. *Interior vehicle cameras *Flashlights or pluggin spotlights *Portable spotlights, and lanterns Keep a few whistles around with you, and in your vehicle possibly in your vehicle’s center console *Keep a Sound horn, for hiking this can service, as a deterrent, and a emergency signal alert for others. *A set of long range 2 way radios, walkie talkies, to communicate with others during trips, some have 100 mile radius keep for emergencies, you can keep with you when hiking. Use your own discretion regarding the use carrying of any weapons. Don’t forget to bring Bear Spray Pepper spray Where is allowed Purchase a couple canisters just in case and keep it with you If you own a drone you can use it to survey your area for animals etc. However, Please Be Safe and Beware of your Surroundings. Stay Alert, and Be Safe even when stopping at Rest stops, Truck Stops, and conducting your various tasks. Keep in often contact with your family, friends etc. Keep up with the latest Weather Updates, beware and prepare for unexpected Weather events and conditions. *VERY IMPORTANT* I would suggest *NOT* to travel to locations without internet, cellular service in the Winter, the reason is that weather conditions can change very quickly, and you absolutely DO NOT want have a vehicle break down, or malfunction, or emergency, and not have the availability to communicate, and contact your family, and or, emergency road assistance, or emergency services. *Safety is Paramount* *Your Life is Important* *You want to Live to Travel another Day* *So Be Safe* *Stay Alert* *Keep your vehicle gas filled* Don’t ride on fumes, or on Empty. Don’t chance your Safety by running your vehicle fuel or gas too close to Empty. Fill it up anyway, it will save you alot of time, and headache later on. Remember to keep up on routine maintenance, check your tires for wear, keep up with your fluids for your vehicle, like oil levels, antifreeze coolant, Please carry extra (oil)(washer fluid), (brake fluid), (antifreeze). You will need extra Winshield Washer fluid because of the ever changing Weather conditions, dustly roads, especially in slushy wet roads. Furthermore, you will need extra Windshield Washer Fluid, Because you will Be driving more often in dusty, dirty, windy, and varying weather conditions. Your windshield will gather dust and debris from long term driving. Also, Remember Because you are on the road riding for sometimes very long distances, and long periods of time, I would suggest investing in 2 sets of tires, and a spare, the extra set to rotate. Check the mileage ratings on your tires they all very. Conduct visual inspections of your tires often, check for damage, wearing, air pressure, etc Keep a pressure gauge to check your tires pressure and a tire pump. Electric, Portable tire pump. Keep towing insurance to Be Safe if you ever need it. It Doesn’t cost much try to get National coverage if available, or where you will be traveling. Keep Extra financing, and savings for any unexpected issues, vehicle repairs, and overnight stays, in a emergency or if you need to rest indoors. Keep Enjoying Yourself, Keep Enjoying the outdoors, and Nature Just..Please continue to Be Positive, Safe, and Alert.. Wishing Success, Well-being and Happiness You All. God Bless You, and everyone Traveling, or living in their vehicles, Vans, RVs, etc. Please Be Safe..... God Be With You.....
