It looks awesome. But i am VERY confused as to how it would stand up against some hefty waves. I'm imagining a wave coming in sideways and one of those flippers just snapping right off.
@veritylove212 Жыл бұрын
@@lun4_th34 I thought of that too, but it can be motored out of storms, however, it might be high enough or the wings could have a curved cover so waves wash right over.

Would I like to live on a floating city? No!!! The Mary Celeste is still roaming free, tidal waves, tsunamis, Captain Smiths; hurricanes, no change in where to go, no holidays, and the ownership of pets, We cannot dismiss pirates, buglars, and murderers.

Cute. The Zumwalt is fast. It cost an amazing amount of money and they cancelled the program after three of them. They also cancelled the program for ammunition for their only gun. The Navy uses them, literally, for target practice.

Love those ship-related phrases, like "it can handle it's ship." I wonder, instead of building floating cities, if we can start building floating houses along the shore. I've seen a design in another documentary about flooding/monsoons/storm surges where houses were built with stilts that when the water rises, so does the house on those stilts. Granted, those are small houses. Brings a whole meaning to living on the coast.
@weidles Жыл бұрын
Yes, Amsterdam has them.
@HydroWorldOutlookPrimary5769 Жыл бұрын
Yes, thank you! See, that is good conservative thinking @kenarbes. I agree with this, for sure. Floating houses are definitely a better alternative to floating cities. They are much safer, they are much smaller, and they are much cheaper to build than any floating city would be. Plus, they already exist and can be built with present-day technology.

2:28 Whoa, yeah, forget it. We're definitely not going to see anything like this anytime soon. Look at the size of that thing! Who would fund the terra yacht? Who would build it? Where would it be built? Who would own it? How would it be maintained? Who would crew the ship? And, if there's a whole city on board, how would it be governed? What would its legal status be? Oh, and in emergencies, how would it be evacuated? I don't see any lifeboats. All these questions would need to be answered before any "floating city" could ever be built. For now, the best we can do is the Icon of the Seas. Keep in mind that there's a whole book of federal laws and requirements for the speed and reliability of maritime safety systems onboard any ship, and a floating city would not be exempted from any of these terms.

This will never be built. But if it was, the front turtle fins would be much shorter. Heavy seas would put too much stress on them. And them running sideways to the direction of travel would be inefficient. Great artists conception though.

Have to call bullshit since the oceans are always rising and falling in 100 year time frames, as it has in that time and yes we are in a rising period. The effects of climate change hasn't really hit the main arctic ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica seriously yet. It's been mere inches so far but once those go it will rise faster and faster, but they say once it is as noticable as that it will already be too late. We're talking 50 meters here and that's a 15 to 20 story skyscraper height. So what let's wait until that happens before we do anything about it?

Like the topic and all. But the narrator's got an issue. Non-stop bubble busting put downs. Say something cool. Then go into a degrading comment about the boat or it's creators. This is the type of thing. Someone who feels defenseless and stepped on would do. They release their anger by saying things they normally wouldn't say in face to face venue's. Won't get slapped either. Gives them a sense of strength that can't be touched. While throwing in the what do I know. So people won't know. There's joy and satisfaction behind the put downs and negative remarks.

These triple super sized mistakes. I wouldn't go near what is on water today much less even look and these without getting sick. My Father is a retired shipbuilder and he knows that what is built today is pushing it's luck on the tech that is used. Now, of what is done would be a combination of at least ten smaller vessels linked together then I would think about it. Wood ships reached their limits and were replaced, now metal ships are pushing theirs. And I doubt there is tech to go further safely.
