OMG! Finally you dipped the youtiao into the warm soy milk! I'm like, when will they figure it out?!? LOL! That's how all Chinese eat it. Whether in Taiwan, HK, China or Canada. Also, youtiao hardens fast, so if you get some that's piping hot and soft, start dipping and eating it right away. Btw, unsweetened soy milk (warm or cold) tastes like wallpaper glue. Love your channel guys! From a fellow Canuck ;)

Actually the best way to eat youtiao (the fried dough stick) is to dip into almond milk or peanut milk. It's a very vintage way of eating it in south.

Yes youtiao (long fried doughnut) is suppose to be dipped or crumbled into the hot soy milk which typically is not sweetened in the hot version. We do out sugar in the cold one. Also, we used to wrap the youtiao into the shao bing as a sandwich and dip both into the hot soy milk for a warm, comfort breakfast. We did not eat much of the sweet stuff, but that seems to be more trendy now! Dang Bing (egg omlet wrapped in like a tortilla like) is the best! Should def try it sometime ! Its more savory and with some chives, and now you can add ham and other things to the omlet.

usually you can get it sweet or savory for most breakfast items. shaobin the sesame bread comes in a wide variety of interpretations. it can be stuffed with sweet or savory stuff. the plain isn't sweetened. the deep fried bread is normally dipped into the soy milk or stuffed in the sesame bread.

The dishes you had aren't what local Taiwanese would typically order for breakfast, unfortunately. Taiwanese are not into sweets for breakfast. I know in my family, we would typically order 油條 (Youtiao) with 咸豆漿 (salty soy milk). Salty soy milk is soy milk with vinegar, pork floss, green onion and the youtiao (fried dough sticks) you guys had. Dan Bing 蛋餅, which is like an omelet, cooked with a tortilla like skin is also popular. Then there's the radish cakes 蘿蔔糕, which are usually accompanied with a tangy sauce. We also like to eat 麵包, which are buns. They come in different flavors and also come with stuffing such as 蔬菜包 (vegetable bun) or ground meat stuffing. Then there are the buns that are pan fried, so it's crunchy at the bottom. I can go on and on :)
@samuelandaudrey7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for letting us know about that! We'll try our best to have a more savory local option next time :)
