I think the first two guys were on point. My boyfriend is japanese and so shy, he couldn't even look at my face the first times we dated. I'm pretty assertive myself and bold at times (and French XD), I was so scared of scaring him away but he actually loves it. 🤷🏾‍♀️ In his case, being shy and kind actually makes him really manly to me because he shows his feelings with his actions instead of just talking. I find that really bold and appealing, ironically. And it does make one feel safe and protected.

This sounds a little similar to me to the way I find that seem more human rather than manly ironically more manly? The more you seem like just some neutral human being with human thoughts and human emotions the more I'm like woah look at that male~ I mean honestly guys you already have a male body and male face. Just be human, however you feel like it. You'll naturally have some manly traits because of that, because that's just the chemical makeup of your brain you know. But just be yourself, let those things naturally emerge. Actively try to be a good human being, the manly stuff will come on their own. And read my comment but swap the genders and just tell me my comment isn't true for many guys... The only truth to your comment would have to be child births becoming fewer but East Asia is also facing similar problems, with the greyer population growing stronger since there are more deaths than live births. As for divorce, it is better for people to divorce than remain unhappy. Children born to unhappy couples may suffer from mindless parents that only stick to one another based on some idiotic decisions that pulled them together in the first place, despite the clear lack in compatibility. You do know that it is far more common for Japanese people to remain single in their 30s, right? Japanese women are not as eager to get married anymore, women in East Asia are changing and becoming more career oriented. If you want to be married, have several children and a female at your service without divorcing you, marry a conservative religious person; Christian or Muslim, preferably.

I study in Europe and we have loads of Japanese exchange students, usually people are saddened when the Japanese students only stick to their own. No one will approach and force you to socialize, bu i can tell you, we're all waiting to get to know you too, everyone is interested in everyone's world and culture. In the west its common for you to introduce yourself to the conversation. So i recommend trying that and dont worry about your English, the most broken English is still decipherable! (Especially with internationals around)

I get the feeling that Japanese people think that every westerners speaks perfect English when that couldn't be further from the truth. French people butcher English like there is no tomorrow, the Italian accent became a stereotype and a joke, same goes for the German one, ... and that's for the people that talk it but have an accent because there are a lot of people who don't talk English or don't talk it very well. I think it’s the same for most foreigners studying in a different country; it feels much safer and easier to stick with people who share your language and culture out of fear of rejection or not being understood. But anyone feeling like this should try to branch out and engage more, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how welcoming and friendly people can be, even if you can’t communicate perfectly!

I have a french friend who always apologizes for his "bad english" but I'm really just grateful he learned it at all and we can communicate. Sometimes I don't understand his pronunciation or the grammar is wrong, but like 99% of the time we figure it out and he can use pictures or a translator. Learning a new language is really hard and I only have respect for those who do try.

As a western woman, I find Japanese men’s shyness to be rather endearing. They seem to have more of an introspective view point and self awareness that is very intriguing. They want to embrace our differences rather than change who we are. We can be overwhelming for sure but I think dating western men has taught us that we have to almost over explain ourselves and teach men how to love us.

I honestly think that when two people make a genuine connection, no amount of language or cultural barriers can keep them apart. Also, there are many different ways to be "manly" if that is a concern. I think most women want a loving, supportive, attentive, affectionate partner, although I cannot speak for everyone. Relationships are 100/100. There are times when you are more confident and can take the lead and vice versa. I think curiosity is a great relationship starter. Being curious means you're willing to learn and explore.

Sure, both partners care for each other and show each other affection. That's largely gender neutral. But being a man in a relationship with a woman means that you provide her with safety, both emotional and physical, but most directly the physical kind. You can go places together that would otherwise feel unsafe for the woman if she was alone and you can be steadfast in the face of emotional turmoil, allowing her to feel vulnerable with the feeling that she can rely on the man to stay grounded. A woman doesnt bring a sense of physical or even necessarily emotional safety to a man and men dont seek it. What men seek is softness and a nurturing kind of care and even more concretely, they seek women for whom it would be appropriate to play the role of protector. The feeling of being relied on in that way and seeing a woman put her trust in you and seek protection from you, even with small gestures like clinging to your arm as you walk through the city at night is very special. The nurturing kind of emotional care that you get from women is different from the kind you get from men, it's more about relaxing and feeling loved, but also needed. Seeing a woman show that nurturing care to children and even small animals elicits the same kind of affection and feeling of wanting to protect her. There is also some overlap between the genders when it comes to these concepts, but generally speaking, these are the differences. Men like to feel like men and provide safety and women like to feel like women and be provided with safety. Generally speaking. The west has largely moved away from gender roles and people act like these feelings dont or shouldnt exist, but they arent exactly going to disappear. In east asia, even in countries were men and women are equal and both have careers, like in Japan, these traditions still exist and people arent afraid to expect them because the culture expects this of both men and women. Women there are no less vocal about wanting men who provide this. To them, this is normal and common sense.

Wow, I found it very interesting that the Japanese say the word "communication" in English, it made me wonder if there is not a Japanese word for it but I'm sure there is. I also laughed and found it adorable that to say "chivalrous" they say "lady first." What I like the most in your videos is the conversation you have with the interviewee, you don't just ask the main question, you develop a conversation and in that way you can expose various points of view. I think people are shaped by the culture in which they grew up, but the personality, and certain moments of our life also counts. I'm Portuguese and I'm shy, but I learned to be more comfortable talking to others due to my profession. Most foreigners are independent but we also like to be taken care of. And I believe there are many strong and independent Japanese women, I think it would be a good topic to address on the channel. Another thing that would be good to address was whether the Japanese would marry foreigners, I think it's a different matter than dating. Something that caught my attention was also the fact that when you start dating you can't have male friends. I don't really agree with this because we don't relate to the opposite sex just to get a boyfriend, there are people we just want as friend, I think it's a matter of trust in the partner. I hope I'm not being rude, but I often get the feeling that most Japanese people base their image of westerners mainly on americans (in my own experience at least) and it's very frustrating. I was surprised by the men in this video actually, but I still felt the need tomention this. I'm from Eastern Europe and I can say we're not all assertive and loud and highly sexual. Especially in my part of Europe, there are still traditional people and gentle women, but I feel like we're more and more influenced by the West as well, especially by the media. Also, I want Japanese people to be more confident, because I've yet to meet a person from my country at least that looks down on Japan and your culture, on the contrary. We think you're polite, hard working, disciplined and spiritual. Maybe a bit weird too haha. Thanks for the video, great as usual.

I come from Greece, a place where it's not so likely to meet a person from Japan, however you would be surprised to know how popular Japanese culture is lately especially among young people. I personally think Japanese men are quite handsome and I don't mind at all if they're shy or want to be protective towards their women, to tell you the truth sometimes I'd find it really comforting if someone had such feelings for me, because being bold and independent always comes at a cost. Anyway the thing is that chemistry is the most important thing between two people and in many cases opposites are attracted and make beautiful combinations! @@shizukagozen777 I agree with the first part but the main reason why most western women refuse to date Asian men is mainly due to stereotypes such as Asian men having small pps, being shorter than other races, smaller in stature, physically inferior, feminine, studious n nerdy, etc. Yes, things like kpop definitely did sort of change the image of Asian men, but for the most part a lot of western women have this negative image of them. And sometimes, kpop reinforces the stereotype of Asian men being feminine. Hell, even a lot of westernized Asian WOMEN refuse to date Asian men. Asian men are also statistically considered to be the LEAST desirable for most women, while white men are the most desirable. You can look it up for yourself. My first love was a Japanese guy. We met almost 8 years ago in China where both of us were studying on an exchange program. You can't imagine what an experience it was. I spoke Chinese, and he was just learning it. Neither of us knew English at that time. I started learning Japanese and made great progress in just a couple of months of communication. So, we basically communicated via online dictionaries, broken Japanese and English and in Chinese. It was love at first sight. Eventually, we had to part ways because I had to return to Russia to finish my studies, but it was the best relationship and the most passionate man I've ever met.

The thing I noticed in both the women and the men video is that, perhaps communication isn't as easy or clear in a purely Japanese/Eastern relationship (as opposed to a mixed/international one)? Pretty interesting. Communication and openness are pretty welcomed and paramount even to good healthy relationships in a lot of Western countries. Interesting to see both the men and women opinions! Lots of Japanese girls seemed to be open to dating abroad or foreigners, where as most Japanese men interviewed here seemed to want to stay closer to home with their relationships. Cool stuff!!

My opinion of Japanese men as a Western woman (who has never dated). I’ve never actually noticed a huge difference in the things they do, but they seem (to me) to be a bit more respectful than the Western men I know. For me, personally, I prefer shyer guys and am not attracted to, like, masculinity, or height. I’ve never considered Asian men in general to be short, they’re the height I’m interested in. I like personality more than looks or wtv-if they’re cute, bonus points-and like being a protector, but I’m fine with being protected. I also don’t have any male friends (online, cuz that’s where my friends are) mainly because I don’t talk to a lot of guys and feel more than awkward than I already am when talking to girl’s. But yeah, that’s my opinion as a Western girl with no dating experience! 😂 😌

Awesome that you asked about Western women in your video. Most women in the West are different from each other. Sure, many share similar likes and dislikes, but no one is the same. At the end of day, if a Japanese man wants to date a Western woman, just take your time with that person. But that's up to them. @@dis4497 They never leave your subconscious and that becomes more apparent over time. The west has a tendency to deny gender differences in how we feel attraction as well as how we are in relationships, choosing rather think that we are more or less the same. Japanese culture, while being quite modern and progressive in the sense that they have a dating culture and women have careers, still sees gender roles as common sense and both men and women seek their equivalent counterpart in this regard. These roles arent just social constructs, they are literally how people feel innately. That's why you can never change the fact that men will generally be more attracted to feminine women in need of protection and no amount of chalking it up to "intimidation" will make men become naturally more attracted to "tough and strong" women instead.

I'm from the U.S. Once, I was in a popular tourist spot and I distinctly recall seeing two Japanese men walking together exploring. I knew they were Japanese because of their distinct fashion, and they were very tall and slender. I will never forget seeing them because they were so fair and dark, so impressive and beautiful with a distinct air about them. I felt so intimidated and like they were so elegant and cool that they would never want to talk to me. Lol I bet they would have found me rude if I just told them what I really thought. Now I'll never know. I imagine Japanese men to be so dignified and out of my reach even when they are right in front of me, like God's from heaven unto Earth just gracing the world with beauty. They make me spout poetry.

As a 40 year old American, I can say in all my experience that not once have I met anyone that spoke negatively of Japan. In fact, we highly respect the country. They're perceived as disciplined, calm, kind, generous, beautiful, highly intelligent, and creative (the birth of manga and anime is a gift to the world). The west respects the east, most definitely. Politicians may cause friction now and then but we don't apply their greed or brutality to their general populations, and we hope the greed and brutality of ours isn't applied to us as a whole either. For example, they're currently trying to make us hate and distrust Russia. We don't buy it, most of us know that Russians are awesome and we could care less what squabbles the leaders get into amongst themselves. We know it's about oil money and power. If you see a westerner in Japan, then be certain that they love Japan and Japanese people. If you're too shy to start a conversation, at least make eye contact and smile (if you're wearing a mask nod your head too). It's a welcoming signal to westerners and they may come say hello to you. Coming from a Latino family of loud, strong, aggressive personalities, I was actually the opposite. Because of that, I wanted a boyfriend/spouse that was the opposite of what I was subjected to growing up. I met and married an Asian guy who is so low key, he makes me look like I'm aggressive. Lol I like that every time I show affection to him, he always reacts as if it is the first time he's ever been loved on and really enjoys it. It's a win-win, I like to shower him with affection, and he likes to receive it. 🥰 Don't get me wrong, he likes to give affection too, but it's more "secretive" (at home only) kind of affection, he doesn't like anyone seeing him do it. Once he did surprise me and gave me a quick kiss in public though. I guess he wanted to try it once. 😂 I think Latina-Asian relationships are really well suited. ❤️‍🔥

Love your content. It's def a cultural difference. Native American men & women are very similar to Japanese, when dating. I think that shyness can be mis-identified as coldness in the West. Many "western" women are forward and it shocks the man, since they are used to the shy quiet approach. Native people are looked at in this same way in America. Native women tend to like the quiet & shyness, since sometimes they are this way. Where western people label it as being cold or disinterested.

As someone from the UK every single Japanese guy I've spoken to has been really polite (something we really value over here), and shy like me haha. I really like that, though. It means we'd have a mutual relationship where we both make decisions, rather than one person taking charge. I feel like they're much more loyal, too, and there isn't this creepy culture over there of getting a girlfriend to show off. They want an actual relationship that will go somewhere, and I really respect that.

In general yes, I do think Japanese guys are bit shy, but very polite and kind as you all mention. Also I think it is true, that regardless of the nationality nowadays we women in general are more open, ambitious and assertive and partner with similar qualities, goals, ambitions would be a great match. But then again it is entirely individual thing. The communication really is the key and stepping out of your comfort zone from time to time can do wonders. ☺️ Keep the good work!

I am an American woman. I live right in the middle of the states. I have always felt a good Japanese man would suit me well. I am a shy woman, but after getting to know someone I am fun and passionate. I do communicate very clearly, but I’m not too assertive. I would be able to allow a Japanese man to be the protector. I think there are US women who have the perfect balance of hard and soft that some Japanese men may be wanting. I am very loyal and wouldn’t go out with a male friend. I know a lot of women in the US who think that is wrong so I think out of everything I heard, that was the one assumption I felt was incorrect. Women in the US may communicate with some male friends but would not spend time with that friend without her boyfriend. So that are some of my thoughts that I felt may be helpful to share. Oh… also, any Japanese man that thinks western women find them to be too shy or maybe even too soft, you are perfect the way you are and you deserve to be loved. Your men are strong enough to be protectors to a western woman. I love you all and I hope this helped to answer some questions/curiosities. Also, I hope this helps anyone feeling insecure to know that there is ALWAYS someone out there to love the parts of you that you don’t like or maybe want to hide. That’s a good thing to tell you… hiding things, being dishonest, lying… these things are a very big problem for an American woman. We would rather be told the truth, even if the truth hurts us. Showing that you will tell the truth, even when it’s hard to, will definitely help you to win an American woman’s heart. Ok… I’m done now… lol thank you for reading and I hope this helps!

I would have assumed they'd have their own words for things like that. I lived in Japan for a couple years and I have a Japanese fiance so I may know a little bit about the topic. From what I have seen and heard from Japanese colleagues and others is that Japanese guys tend to go for more feminine types of females or less assertive types. They feel that because they are already shy they have a difficult time expressing their feelings which may irritate a western girl. One of my Japanese coworkers dated a woman from America and he said it didn't work out because he felt she tried to force him to be more open and expressive but it just wasn't his personality. He said she eventually got annoyed and ended up moving back to the states and married a guy there. Anyway, I've heard similar stories from other Japanese guys I knew when I was there. A big no no if you're trying to date or marry in Japan definitely don't force your culture on theirs. They might not say anything to you but their inner feelings and later actions will pretty much tell you how they feel about you if you push the issue.

Being in a relationship with someone from an opposite culture is extremely, extraordinarily difficult. It requires a level of commitment most people don't have and thus in most cases it won't work. That's not even getting into the fact communication is opposite (indirect Japanese vs direct western) and the langauge barrier is difficult. That being said, if you can really devote yourself and accept there are no absolutes in life and you may have to unlearn and relearn things you believed were absolute you can do this. Japanese men are good fathers and husbands but they are NOT at all, in any way, like western people. I love my Japanese husband and he's worth everything it has taken to be with him. It can be done.

Agreed, it does take a lot of work mostly in the form of learning to make concessions. My partner and I are from two different cultures. It took a lot of us learning to understand why different cultures approach the same thing differently and not just go the easy route of making fun or refusing to try it. My partner used to be extremely stubborn and would out of fear of trying my culture, put it down. It wasn't until he got older that he realised what he was missing out on. For me, it was learning more about his culture, being with the family, etc. that I gained an understanding. This came in handy when I had to explain or set rules with my in-laws of what I couldn't do as they might expect. Since I understood their culture, I knew how to explain it in an understanding way. It's been over a decade and only one family member of his still doesn't wish to understand my culture, but I've learned to just go around them. The rest do and include me, so I'm good with that.

There is a great amount of presumption by other u.s. citizens that African Americans don't have a distinct culture, but there definitely is once you spend enough time to learn about it. It typically is downplayed or looked down upon, similar to mine. Ironically though, I speak and use more French than he does.

I never met such a loving, kind and thoughtful man, who also has a very headstrong side to him. It's very refreshing, as I, in my personal view, don't like this overwhelmingly image of masculinity.

Aaaah my fist surprise visiting Japan was how beautiful the Japanese people were in general..they look so stunning and catered..the social norms of behaving are so much further cultivated, people are really very polite and caring..this made Japanese man in my opinion so cute and romantic, really loved Japanese guys..,maybe on the surface they look shy, but I'm sure if they get the chance to let themselves know&show to you this will be a very true devoted friend/boy-friend .. only problem/difference that might be (by their culture) is the fact it's common to keep big problems to themselves, not to be a burden to you !

I dated a Japanese guy in Japan, Now, I'm very tall; he was tall. Folks think Japanese men aren't tall, but they can avg. around 5'9-5'10. But I will say it's very rare to date a Japanese guy if you are from a different country. Totally different from Japanese women. Many are open, but I say not all women are interested.

@@HolySensei842 not all of them. but 99% of them live in a bubble (dont know anything outside of japan, and are very close minded/racist/xenophobic). again not saying all japanese. but this is the vast majority. i dont disagree with everything the average japanese has to say though but it is def a super close minded country compared to the rest in the world. the fact that they use terms like gaijin already says enough. basically everyone there has japanese blood, where in other countries it's so common to see other races that it literally doesnt matter. try walking around in japan as a foreigner without people looking at you and saying stuff behind your back.

@@epiram okay, I get where you're coming from, but for me i still don't understand why you would look down on them, most of the things you mentioned are mostly based on assumptions saying that most are (Xenophobic or racists) and just because they seem closed minded or have lesser knowledge of the outside world, still doesn't give you the right to look down on someone, it's their choice to live how they want, just because it doesn't fit your standard of how one lives a life doesn't mean that they are lesser than you, their way of life is maybe one of the reasons as to why their culture is still very rich, because they still hold on to the values, morals and teachings passed down by the ancestors, preserving one's own culture and remembering their roots is also one of the sole reasons why they are different from the west and why they can offer so many distinct forms of entertainment, art, food, products etc. to the world. I too know people who have lived most of their lives in a closed environment and have less knowledge on what is going on in the outside world, but just because they choose to live that way doesn't mean that they are lesser than me or you, everyone gets a choice to live however they want and it's not for us to dictate how they live their lives. In my opinion, having a superiority complex indicates a lack of maturity or emotional growth. I believe society is better for having a mixture of talent and abilities. Wouldn't it be a boring world if everyone were to be exactly the same ?

I'm an American, I've never had a preference when it came to race as for who I got with. I ultimately ended up marrying a white man, but he could have been any race, even Japanese and I'd still be married to him. I think Japanese men are really interesting, so if I was single and had the chance to date a Japanese man I'd definitely go for it.
