Louise! Your open studio tour was one thing, eye candy everywhere, but this, this is the real Santa's workshop for painters! Lots to take away from this and apply it the best I can in my own way. Such a clever design, you knew exactly what you needed, no space wasted or unused. Also very brave to reveal to the world what to me is the most private place in an artist's home. Thank you so much. Edit: your neighbor deserves some credit, Too! Great job!

Thank you Louise for the tour of your studios! There's no excuse for not having enough space to make art, you're proving that. It reminds me that we create our own reality, so if we manifest our desire to be an artist enough, through work, through interest, we'll create a new suitable space as we progress. And that's exactly what you've shown us in your video. Thank you, Louise. You're an inspiration.

Great to see l am not the only one with plenty of arty stuff everywhere. I love the idea with the work boards and cork tiles. I think l would like to use it. For many years l travelled with my paints in a motorhome so space, inside and out was limited. My dream of a studio did become a reality, it’s my happy place,and if it’s a mess l can lock the door ,let the paint dry over night and with a cup of coffee in hand the next morning carry on with my playtime. I love it........

I feel genuinely privileged to have seen your space. Your home is lovely. As someone who has been working in the corner of a bedroom for a few years using a desk, a folding table when necessary and an easel I have such appreciation for your original workspaces. I love your current studio - set high on the concrete platform it appears to have such a place of honour. You give so much to all of us Louise - it's wonderful to see you have more space to explore and create. Wishing you continued success and even greater space if and when your heart desires it. (Jeez - I'm wondering now if I could use the word "space" even more in a single paragraph!) ❤

Thank you so much! What a treat. I am still at the stage where I'm painting on a table in my house--not a separate room, but it's also a table that I don't have to clear every evening for meals. Thank you for doing a realistic tour! I wish I had watched it a few weeks ago. I just added 2 x 4 wood on the wall of my daughters former bedroom with dowel rods for hanging different size panels so I can review a series... when I finally make one. Now I wish I had added the angled plywood wall but I can keep it in my brain to improve the space if I get the energy!. As you say, never enough storage!!!. I am a master at storage but a pathetic loser at parting with stuff! This was helpful.

I enjoyed the visit very much! Thank you, Louise…I look forward to joining you in the free course coming up September 1st. I live in a medium size city in Portugal. It is my dream to one day have a studio space outside of our 3 bedroom apartment. For now I paint in the kitchen or on our big IKEA dining room table. Working on 3 canvases - 100cm x 100cm…for a commissioned work. The couple can then pick the one they like best.

You have had some really great spaces! I don’t have the option to expand in my home so I have to have a very big declutter when I run out of space and limit new supplies. In some ways though, I’m really grateful because I only ever have what I absolutely love in my space. Everything else is necessarily removed. I have contemplated putting things in the loft but I know I won’t go up there much so I only have a few extra blank sketchbooks that I bought on sale. I don’t think I’d do that again though as the size and format I use goes through phases and I don’t want to force myself to use something against my current flow.

Thanks for the tour of a real, live working artist's studio, not tidied up for viewing! I think this is how most creatives work - with a mess everywhere! The tiny space you started in was pretty small, but it was yours. Moving to your current studio where you have so much more space, and now wanting more, reminds me of a saying (which I'm paraphrasing) - "paintings expand to fill the space." It makes me realize how lucky I am to have to space I have. But I, too, want more, and I've said for a while that I want to live in an art studio. Since I live alone it is entirely possible for me to transform the entire cabin to a studio and just carve out a bit of living space! It's around 750 sq ft, and I only use a tiny bit for living and kitchen, so there's a lot of room to grow into. I, too, have a large "easel", which is just a 4' x 8' piece of MDF sitting on an A-framed shape set of three 2 x 4's, which rests agains the wall. The cross brace of the "A" is set horizontally and is screwed into a couple of small blocks of wood resting on the two vertical 2 x 4s. I just set one painting on top of another, so I don't use screws, but it works quite well! (And I just changed the supporting frame to an "H" shape which allows me to have a narrow rolling cart underneath. Because the frame isn't attached to the wall, it leans back like an easel, giving me lots of room.) Happy painting. Louise!

I was wondering if you would do a video on how you use pastels on your paintings and how you seal and varnish without damaging the pastel work. I have used fixative but it still makes pastel dry in small clumps instead of smooth pastel I put on?

Wonderful spaces! Thank you for sharing! I do wonder about the sky lights. I know you use quality materials, but if the light is natural, do you worry about the lightfastness of materials and pieces you are working on, or have sitting about? Just curious.
@ThisPaintingLife
@ThisPaintingLife 10 ай бұрын
Not at all. If the natural light in the studio is a problem, what about when they go to a light bright home? I've never had a painting fade in any light so it doesn't concern me at all - but to stop shafts of very bright light, I have diffusing blinds on the skylights
