Take It or Trash It--Pore Minimizing Primers

Hello my kitty cats...time for a little Take It or Trash It!! It's kinda hard to show how a primer works so I did my best to explain it. What's your opinion on pore minimizing primers? Give it to me straight people...
PS all of these primers have a pretty strong silicone feel to them....none of them feel just like a lotion...just FYI, I failed to mention that during the video.

For the Garnier one (all primers and foundations, in general - as I learned from Wayne Goss), you have to look at the ingredients. If the base is oil, then you want your foundation to have the same base as well. The same goes for silicone or water based. Usually, mixing the kinds of bases will result in the caking and/or sliding of your foundation. So you might want to try it again with a foundation that has the same base ingredients.

can you tell me if the maybelline baby skin is oil silicone or water? and also covergirl outlast? those are what i use and my face is cakey ): i know ur prolly wondering why i dont look i have and for some reason they both have water or water and silicone??

+Truly Yours I know for sure that BabySkin is silicone based, as are most primers. Look for ingredients ending in the syllables: -cone, -xane, and similar. The ingredients are listed by highest percentage to lowest, so the type will likely be determined by the first few ingredients. Oil primers will have a type of oil listed in the first few ingredients. And water primers will have no silicones or oils within the first few ingredients, and water will be one of the first listed. Other primers can have water in them, too, so make sure to eliminate the other ingredients, first.

For me, the Maybelline baby skin primer did not blur my pores at all and it did not work well with my oily skin.

I'm with you. Baby skin is incredible. I have older skin, being 43 and it works great. I love that it is clear... it doesnot change the color of my makeup. Also, I could not even feel it when I put it on, silky is an understatement. Absolutely wonderful!

Just a side note... my skin is normal to dry. I don't know how it works for oily skin, so maybe it is only good for dry skin...sorry I am just not sure.

ive been using the balm primer its real good, trying baby skin now feels much oily and i did a comparison both primers do the job with and without makeup :)

That Garnier product is really great for dry skin with large pores. I used it on my aunt for a wedding and her skin looked amazing with foundation on.

Not bashing the video but for other viewers reading the comments. I personally would NOT recommend the baby skin primer at all for oily skin (like i have)!!!!! was so slippery and made my skin look suuuper oily, opt for the rimmel stay matte its a life changer i swear

Thanks for the reviews. I actually use the garnier and I find it to be perfect for me. I'm 51 and I have combo skin with oily t-zone..I guess everyone's skin is different. I pat it in and apply makeup. I set my makeup with spray and I don't have to touch up all day. I will try your first review as well for the heck of it. You don't know until you try. Honestly though the Garnier works great for "me"

I haven't tried the Garnier one, but I watched on another video, the MUA said the way to apply it is to pat on top of the area you want to disguise. It goes wrong if it smoothed over the skin. Worth a try if anyone already bought it and found the same problem as you did.

Thank you for reviewing the Garnier 5 Sec Blur. I actually LOVE it! but! I do not wear foundation so it works very well for me. I put a light finishing powder on over it then bronze and conceal. My skin feels so soft all day. I get oily throughout the day no matter what but I really do love the 5 Sec Blur. Sorry it wasn't a "Take It" for you.

I love the Garnier 5-sec Blur, personally. I only use it where I need it, to fill in the large pores and pockmarks around my nose and mouth. You really have to press it in and not use too much. If you do that, your makeup should sit on top of it just fine... but perhaps not if you're oily. I know you said here you were dry, but in all your other videos you talk about how oily your skin is. Did you mean dehydrated?

Great video...thanks for your efforts. I have pretty good skin, normal, aged, ...I've tried quite a few primers and just couldn't see what all the fuss was about, it just felt like layering another goop over all my serums and moisturisers, but wait...... The Dermalogica Prime and Protect is a miracle. My foundation looks flawless, it is skincare as opposed to makeup and my foundation lasts even when I'm too tired to take it all off before bed.... I know lazy...but Dermalogica has my vote.

I purchased the Baby Skin thinking it would work well for my pores...within a few hours I was an oily mess!!! My makeup was sliding off....never again!!

Right on! I love the Porefessional and Baby Skin too! Of course, the Baby Skin is more affordable, but I still have both of them. The Baby Skin is in constant rotation. Have you tried L'oreal perfecting primer in the small jar? I love this stuff, although it's like putting a layer of glue on - a little bit goes a long way, but it definitely reduces pore size and leaves a matte finish.

I have not worn makeup in over 10+ years and this was really good, because I was trying to find a good primer (oily skin here and huge pores Lord help meh) and this was the kind of thing we need to see reviews along with testing. Do's and Dont's, so thank you very much.

I totally agree! I looove the porefessional, it's my first love. I got the baby skin next and love the way it looks under my makeup :) I got a sample of the pore vanisher and it made my face sooo oily and made my makeup slide around like crazy. Not impressed! Love your reviews!

when i bought the kit from bare minerals, in the box was a little primer... and its exactly the same as this one! Just the prices are.. bareminerals - 25 euro or smth like that and maybelline - 8 euro :)). happy that i purcase the maybelline one!

i bought the garnier 5 sec blur and i really love it!my skin is oily and when i aply it it gets mat and so smouth!it is like photoshoping my skin in real life...if i want to go out i use a powder after that and im fine..i wouldn't trash it at all

I LOVE the Garnier one.I have Porefessional and to me they both work great. I kinda pat it into my skin and notice a major difference, my pores were like gone it seemed lol. I haven't tried the baby skin, I will now. Thank you! :-)

I couldn't agree more about the loreal pore vanisher. I've compared it with the Benefit Porefessional and you're totally right about them not being the same. Pore vanisher is crap, it's so going back to the store!

I have the Loreal primer and I have to agree with you that it simply doesn't work. Since so many people claimed it was a dupe for the porefessional I didn't even consider buying it because I didn't want to waste even more money but now I think I'll have to try it out or at least ask for a sample!

Thank you so much for doing this video! I am just about done wasting time and money on primers. I bought the Garnier Blur and I returned it to CVS. They will take anything back for any reason (this wasn't my color, or I just didn't like this). So, I tried two other primers from CVS...Milani mattifying and NYX pore filler...not worth it for either of them. I have very large nasal pores and broken capillaries, mostly due to participating in a marketing study for Biore Nasal Pore Strips way back in 1999! I dropped out of the study because of the damage that it did to my nose. I was only 24 then and If I had known know (at 42), I might have done a little more than complain! I think I am going to put my money toward Paula's Choice retinol products (recommended by Wayne Goss) and try to go light on the foundation this summer, then hopefully find the "Holy Grail". So, I'll focus on skincare and hope for good results and products that can become part of my "bag of tricks". Thank you, again! I enjoy catching up with your videos when I can! xoxo

I tried a sample of the L'Oreal Pore Vanisher just yesterday & had the same opinion as you did. My skin is dry also & I sort of kept putting on alittle more, & alittle more...hoping it would start to make my pores vanish.....nope, they looked exactly the same. I was really hoping it would work, but it just didn't. I still have not seen the Baby Skin in any of the drug stores in my area, so am still on the lookout for that to try. I think it really depends on your skin type. I have heard a lot of reviews from people with oily skin saying that it works for them. Me personally I do have oily skin so I might try it nut I think I would just go for the baby skin instead. way cheaper.

Love the bloopers! PoreFessional didn't do squat for covering my pores. It is a good makeup primer though. I want to try the Baby Skin primer when my current primer supply runs out.

I love the bloopers at the end. high five tip: try out Younique Glorious Face and Eye Primer and the Moodstruck Mineral eye primer. It is a little pricey but you get enough product in the glorious tube for >6 months. Mine would have lasted longer had I not sampled them out.

I have the garnier 5 sec primer. Can't put a lot of it, have to use the smallest amount you can possible. I've never used too much so I've never gotten greasy and i have naturally extremely oily skin. It's a great product (: Ya should try it that way.

The garnier one works well for me I love it and the loreal one. I prefer loreal pore vanisher, it works much better, but I love the garnier one too. Hate baby skin it just stay on top of my skin and makes my makeup slide around! We have complete difference of opinion lol but everything works different for everyone

My baby skin pore eraser does work only when I put under my foundation, remember to use only a tiny bit of that (seriously tiny bit) on area where you really need it

Young Wild and Polished I agree with the Garnier 5 second blur. My makeup would just slide off my face! How ever the one I love and I think it is even better then Maybelline baby skin is the Monistat Chaffing Gel. Your pores just disappear!

I'm a make up artist for over 20 yrs ....I love the baby face and my trick is I mix a tiny bit in with my foundation...apply with a patting motion...set with a light translucent powder....just my little trick that i like.I have mature skin (Im in my 40's) and it is a little dry across my cheeks and nose and it helps me look a bit dewy.PAT tho ..don't rub in.

I'm in the minority when it comes to the Benefit pore. I have normal to slightly dry skin. I swear it makes my pores look larger after a couple of hours. I've also tried the Smashbox primer and don't like how it works either. So I'm still looking for something that works for me.

The loreal one broke me out so bad! I never got break outs, rarely once in a blue moon I would get one but when I used that loreal one I had break outs everywhere ! I stopped using it and my skin got clear again thank good I was really upset tho because I did like it for my dry skin :/ just my skin didn't like it all that well

I never understood how so many people love the baby skin primer! The baby skin didn't blur my pores at all neither did it make my foundation last, in fact it decreased the wear for me with its greasiness, and I have dry skin.
