When you abide as that in which it appears instead of identifying; nothing has a grip on you; if anything comes; it quickly goes; like clouds passing; only if you identify as a cloud then it will appear as if the cloud is here for longer than it is originally supposed to; if you simply rest as the awareness and do not identify; it will quickly dissolve; be unconditional love by being aware of being aware; this is the highest; this is what you are seeking in absolutely everything else; you are seeking yourself; you are seeking unconditional love; but you are looking outside of yourself; instead of being aware that you already are timeless, unchanging, eternal, unconditional love, peace, joy, compassion, wisdom, contentment and fulfillment; your true self is what all beings seek. Suffering from a cold at the moment, and feeling trapped. All the mind wants to do is run away from unpleasant sensations and feelings. But in a moment of clarity I realised that seeking escape is the suffering itself and not the sensations and feelings being experienced. I guess all suffering ultimately is the result of non acceptance of the present moment that is being experienced. But, it's so hard to just accept the moment and abide in the now, especially when we've been told all our lives that we must always be striving for something better than what is transpiring now. The end of that rainbow, that better place is never found and remains perpetually elusive. Alas, what I'd give just to accept and stop searching for that peace which has eluded me as far back as I can remember. I feel certain that the moment I stop looking and no longer want it, that whatever I've been chasing will be there.

Underneath every suffering of experience of bad past there is an underlying happiness but the unavoidable truth is that you have to directly face the experiences of bad past, you have to go to the heart of every experience of the bad past, you have to sit face to face with each and every bad past you have created, you have to solve them, resolve them, suffer them and work on them as much as they require to be done till their demand for attention is fully fulfilled with no left over or unattended event. You have to accept them as own fault, own sin till you are fully defeated and surrendered to them. Then only you can get access to that happiness when they will themselves release you from their back-pulls, interferences and all related vibrations. You have to acknowledge that you cannot access this happiness by your own effort how much you try unless the experiences of bad past, the incidents, the events are not fully satisfied and open the gate for you.

Truth! I finally get that being completely Present is the Undeniable Central Feature of the Direct Path. (I use caps not to make these words religious. If italics were available, I would use them.) This is very point the Byron Katie brings us to in The Work. Escape can only bring temporary peace, and what we are avoiding will be brought back by the Loving Divinity for us to face and grow into our true beingness.

It's so interesting. I have been struggling with a lot of intense anxiety recently and in moments when it is very strong, I recall reading in various places "be present with the emotion", I try, but it doesn't feel right or seem to help. Rupert has just clarified that to be present, means to be present as beingness in the background of the emotion. I feel almost silly, but I now realise I have really been identifying as the emotion by trying to "be with in". This, I imagine, is why so many people struggle with "being present with emotions".

I agree with the overall idea of not escaping the present into the mind/future/past etc. However, it also seems that investigating the individual who seems to be suffering (ie. exactly to whom is the suffering occurring etc.) and how it arises in the moment, may be a valid way of being with suffering (along with his suggestion to fully accept and be present with suffering/sensations). This might seem to be an 'escape' from the immediate pain, however, it is uncovering the root of the suffering IMO.

"There is no suffering in the now". Imagine that you experience absolute terror. In order not to suffer you go straight into the feeling and sense it fully, in the body, in the now. Let us assume that you succeed in this respect. Presence allows the energy and emotion of terror to move as it pleases. Is there no suffering then, in the absolute presence of terror? Well, you will most certainly feel pain as the energies contract and expand in and through vital parts of your body. If we say, as does Rupert, that this strong sensation is not suffering I suggest we are deluded by semantics. There is suffering in the present moment precisely to the extent that we fail to experience the contraction, the resistance fully. It is very hard to experience powerful, negative feelings fully. If we experience them as alive energies moving through the body, then we actually feel them in the present moment. But surely you will most likely experience some degree of suffering. Opening in this regard to the body and emotions, energies is however the way to liberate ourselves from suffering, eventually. But its hard work. In the body, in the present moment. Through suffering onto the other shore.

My question is this: if our sole intention is to get to that state, then why would the decision to incarnate into hyper focused separate realties in the first place? I think there may be more to it. Maybe we are to experience things and bring back that experience to a soul group. Because if we are trying so much to do nothing but climb back into that state, why leave in the first place???
@raindropcleaners6 жыл бұрын
In order to experience the world, consciousness believes itself to be seperate. Going into deep sleep there is nothing, when you wake, the world comes into view through the finite mind. Also, maybe consciousness wants the experience of transcending the mind to remember itself.

You are that sense of Presence. However you feel like you're the fear...the Presence will give you warmth and love to the point you melt into it...and realize you are It. Well, in Dharma it is referred to as appropriate behavior. In other words, the insight to be with the context and behave in direct relationship with it. That is the recognition that self and other and circumstances arise together in the present whereas the mind as intellect can conceive otherwise, hence thought always being the past making comparisons of what is with what was or will be. One way to recognize this is, without passing judgement, notice how and when people can be out of context or even seem to be completely removed from what is going on in the moment. Well, it is better to do that with your own experience, but getting a sense of that directly will indicate how that works. You can then notice it is "just happening" as a unitary motion and that ideas of object and event vs. self and its experiences are a conceptual construct. That construct is useful, but what teachings are getting at is the identification with the process as conditioned confusion. It is very simple, really.

Sorry Rupert but a new born baby does have memories. The Buddhist manifestation only teachings say that our ancestors life experiences and memories, are embedded within our cells and DNA, implicit memory stored as seeds within our store consciousness. Babies know pain and suffering, for its the very energy that propelled them into human experience in the first place. Mind consciousness does not process it as thought but as a feeling and knowing. Babies suffer and the know they suffer when harm is done to them, it doesn’t require thinking to suffer, it is felt. Consider a turtle when it hatches, they immediately scuttle to the ocean as fast as their baby legs can carry them, this to avoid almost certain death, it does so out of cellular implicate memory, that memory contains fear but implicit memory also contains the joy of life and the freedom the ocean contains.

All sounds good. Don't be too concerned about the experience as that's not the important bit. The important bit is the opening or shift in consciousness that precipitated that experience. That shift isn't an experience and there's no way to 'know' it, so don't be concerned about that either. Just keep the inquiry fresh and be as innocent about all this as you were at the beginning. You're after something much deeper than an experience. An experience is not enough to fulfil the heart as they are always, by nature, temporary. Only the recognition that the heart has always been fulfilled will end the search, and that comes by itself, through no concern and no effort, if you abandon all interest in anything you encounter in meditation but remain focused on resolving the life issue: Who really is this? Who am I? What is life? Call it what you will, but just become pure question, pure innocence, and ignore the answers. Ignore even these instructions if you feel they get in the way. I strongly recommend finding a teacher in your daily life who you can meet with. There are more around than you may think, especially if you're near a major city.
@happyface84886 жыл бұрын
The teaching is whatever comes and goes. ..even a beautiful awakening experience is in time...you are the timeless who knows. ..you're there to see it come and to see it go...Who Are You. Accept every experience but don't get attached to it as it takes you into time which is the mind...any mind movement isn't who you are. Just stay as the Awareness. Which cannot be objectified. Or known through the mind.

I don´t know. But I would say, that it is possible to suffer without conceptualization. I have worked both with small kids and autistic older kids, and would say that they suffer without conceptualizing it. Being identified with the uncomfortable feeling is suffering. (This might be also about semantics.) The conceptualization just brings extra unnecessary layers on the suffering. But the first layer is just the feeling with identification. And infants do that, in the pre-egoic stage. Otherwise infants would be awakened, right? Rupert has himself talked about the difference of pre-egoic state and the post-egoic state, and here he seems to forget it. Just saying:) Respects, anyways!:)
@ernestweber52076 жыл бұрын
Ken Wilber goes into the pre/trans fallacy in relation to that, and in depth. However, it mainly applies to various views and the relationship between religion, science and philosophy. What is difficult about what we observe in others is that our capacity for empathy can be projected onto the other and we can act "as if" it is true. I make no assertions on that being wrong or right, but if you listen to Rupert enough and contemplate what he is pointing to, then the true nature of suffering can be more clear. It has long been a subject of investigation and that is the best way to approach it. Putting aside assumptions can allow for deeper insight into it. The first question, which will seem to be radical, is: Does suffering exist? Consider that and from there, look deeply into suffering itself and what it means. For instance, though it may seem like common sense to believe that pain and suffering are the same, it behooves us to parse that and see if it is necessarily so in all cases.
