Yes, please keep making updates on your trials and tribulations! Loved this trip to Classic Alfa. Well done, sir. I bought a gopro to video my own experiences in my spider and TR6, but I can't talk to the camera like you KZbinrs can! I do think that you are making a mistake removing the electric fan, though. If it draws that much power, it probably doesn't have a relay, which it does need to have. EVERYTHING on these damn cars should have a relay, but they don't. On the chance that it does have a relay, the grounds may be an issue. ALL the grounds on these cars are an issue LOL. We have to keep them clean; I check mine every now and then. Seriously; an electric fan with a proper temp sensor plumbed into the lower Left radiator bung (Just a bolt on the S3, but used on the S4) and a relay should do you good. Maybe a new fan? And it IS an aftermarket, not the stock fan for AC? If you have your heart set on a stock fan, it's a must to have good motor mounts. If they are older and start to sag, your fan blades will hit the radiator shroud and fly off into your hood on a bump :( This happened to me, only I bottomed out at speed and broke every damn one off, but none dented the hood, luckily. Bad dip in the road and I was going too fast, WITH new mounts. This is more common with older, sagging motor mounts.

Thanks a lot John! Glad you liked my trip to Classic Alfa! Sorry for the slow reply I was in Italy filming at a race event, just ploughing through replies to comments now. Good luck videoing yours! Give it a try in front of the camera. I can get camera shy a fair bit too ;) I can see where you are coming from. I like to keep cars standard if possible and the electric fan install in mine is a mess. Especially the wiring. It's like a spaghetti junction! Mine hasn't got any AC so yes it is an aftermarket fan. With knackered bearings. The mounts look fine and the guys at Classic Alfa checked and reckoned they were ok. Something did happen in the past for the stock fan to get scored. Maybe a previous owner grounded out as well. What I can always do is run it with the engine fan back on and see how it goes. If it needs a rad fan back on then I can do that. But first clearing away some of the hack job wiring and going stock will give me a blankish slate to start with. I might start on it next week, will see how it goes.
