Take Up The Tale!

In this episode I tell you about what has inspired me to take up the tale, the great formative story of these islands and read you a new poem about that inspiration.

The final lines of the poem remind me of the end of Tolkien’s (I mean, Bilbo’s) The Road: The road goes ever, ever on Down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the road has gone, Let others follow it who can.

I am in awe of your courage, talent and work ethic! I agree it is good to go back to the source, to the land, and then to retell the old stories for a new time! Beautiful poem! I watched Excalibur (1981) today, in my view a wonderful film, perfectly cast with the richest of British actors of that time. My next time travel vault I thought…will place me there…in King Arthur‘s court 😉

Thank you Malcolm. I eagerly await the eventual publication of this epic. I love that we viewers / followers get to hear some of the verse before publication. Dare I say that the journey you are on seems to have a little of the chivalrous to it. Funny that we as followers get to see even a prelude to the prelude as it were, in the research you have been doing in terms of the literary record of the Arthurian legend. I love how you are not at all snobbish about Green’s book as opposed to Mallory. The affection you have for one is not dimmed by the other. It has prompted me to order the Green version! All of your videos are fantastic, and I'm finally beginning to understand poetry. Thank you for reminding me how wonderful it is to step inside an Anglican priest's office. Have you considered Howard Pyle's King Arthur? John Steinbeck? What about Madeline L'Engle and Ursula K. LeGuin? They influenced me at the same time as Lewis and Tolkien (and others).
