I do learn from the way you break down tasks. Thanks!

Nice demonstration Anthony. Bushings are some of my favorite router accessories. I do a lot of template routing, and while flush trim and pattern bits do their job very well, they're more expensive than simple straight bits.

Fantastic video Anthony, thanks so much for the information and taking the time to produce all of the content that you make.

Really like the informative video. I realize this is an old(er) one but if you're still viewing responses- have you noticed any wobble with the insert for the of1400? I bought a pattern bit set, designed for porter cables but didn't realize there was a special insert festool had to let you use other manufacturer pattern bits so mine's been gathering dust for awhile. I just wasn't sure after talking to my since-retired festool guy that he said they opted against an adjustable router base and centering spindle, to go with the ease of clicking in and out inserts. Part of me wants to trust the click inserts have zero play but I was just curious. Would love to use the pattern set as well as the extended base for stabilizing the router if that's the case with the insert. Problem is I sometimes need to order special parts like that attachment and I just don't like dealing with return shipping if it can be avoided.

Never used these bushings. What's the advantage over just using a flush trim bit?

The regular top mounted flush trim bits just aren’t as clean a cut or on the plunge. There’s much more surface area on the bushings than there is on a bearing of a flush trim router bit, they’re much more stable and accurate in my opinion of course, but I’ve also had a lot of experience and success with this method on my other templates. It’s a matter of trial and error and finding what you like best. I can give you my honest opinion and true experiences. They may not feel right for everyone else but not everyone is the same.
