I didn't even noticed it until now: the clip have a huge meaning behind it! the painting is the allegory of the life of Gotye. He created it for him, and Kimbra. that's why they are covered with paint. it's because they are from Gotye's life. that's why Kimbra is unpainted at the end, because she does not want to be in his life now, and now, he is alone, in his world made for two.

The duet strengthens this song, and I couldn't imagine it without Kimbra. Listeners begin to identify/empathize with the man, then find out that he's in turn victimized his current partner by not focusing on her. He never looks at her 'til the end, when she takes off her paint and he realizes that he might/will lose her as well because he cannot move on from his past. It's a very strong message about living in the present and letting resentment go, one that really resonates within me.

I Love this artist & never tired of listening to this hit song of his & Kimbra. Beautifully done video But mostly This Song !! Wow so catchy, if I 'd make a list of my fave hit songs, this one is absolutely up there with what I consider best in last ten years.
