There's actually a video of a Korean congressman using this throw on another congressman during a fight. So, yes, these techniques can be used during a street-fight.

Wait, is this Carlos Newton, the legendary Canadian 1990s and 2000s MMA fighter casually playing demonstration dummy like he's no big deal?
@garyking403211 жыл бұрын
I don't see why the street vs. self defense debate is relevant here, he's obviously teaching a sportive technique for a sportive situation.

Great video in both senses, good instruction and coolest Uke ever! I started in Judo, did BJJ and back to Judo again, don´t know why some people still don´t want to cross train, is fun!

That's a great video, although in that case the Korean used a slight variation of this throw. This video is "yoko" tomo nage - side sacrifice technique. Notice that Joel spins sideways on his entry. In the Korean congress, the guy used the classic variation of tomo nage - he hops straight in. Both are great techniques, but they differ in the way which you get under the opponents center of gravity.

In a "street fight" this is not the technique to utilize this is a technique specific to a situation. Learning these types of techniques are more on the lines of the art part of martial arts in that its unique way in order to take your partner to the mat in a tournament. A large majority of techniques fall into this category from both Judo and BJJ. The best possible take down for self defense is Osotogari which can be done without a gi just as effectively as with one.

If you are having the Tomoe Nage done to you how do you protect against it to prevent injury, it freaks me out how I fall?

hi, just 1 thing, if anybody could answer this question. in a street fight ppl dont wear loose clothing so you cant hold on to any material, what would, how would you do judo move or this move?? love to hear ur response to this. ur big fan already. thanx.
@leeellis2457 жыл бұрын
MrOlivetribe - I've used this move on a couple of men who stole my car and I caught them. I did a simple sweep on one then did a rolling throw on the other by gripping the shoulder of his to my right and pulling on the wrist. it worked well. he couldn't breathe for a while after. hurt my back on concrete though.

i think this move is way too risky for a street fight. for a street fight you need to strike or close the distance. this is a mid range technique which usually means grappler ends getting beat with punches or kicks. this is a gracie combatives (street jiu jitsu) concept.
@fukingmagnets11 жыл бұрын
when you have a standard righthand grip (that is the right hand on the lapel and the left hand on the opponents sleeve), is it then most normal to throw with your left leg?
